Just a Few Acres Farm

Just a Few Acres Farm

3 жыл бұрын

I could tell this rain to stop, but I don't think it would listen to me, so I just try to get my farm work done despite it. Today I'm working between the raindrops to fix fences, get new broiler chicks settled into the brooder house, get the pastured pigs set up with a nipple drinker, and clean out the winter pigs' pen.
Note:
-We do not offer farm tours
-We do not ship our farm's products
-We do not sell live animals

You are successful because you are honest and truthful and it's becoming a rare find on public forums and social media. And, like with Sammy, you don't alter what you are doing because of public pressure, because you know what you are doing is right for you and your family, and that's it. You shoot it straight for us all, and your teaching style and vast knowledge is captivating.

Lol, "I'm not supposed to see calves thru my kitchen window." Made me chuckle, I remember driving down the road past the pasture and seeing a cow and calf on the wrong side of the fence and thinking almost the same thing to myself. We had one cow that was a Houdini, always getting out. Once she started teaching the the calves to escape, it was time to send her down the road.

I made that same statement last weekend when I looked out and saw 2 of my calves goofing around. I also said it early one morning as they mooed by my bedroom window. Some days I wonder about them and their need to explore outside 25 acres of lush green pasture. Lorie 😁🐂

We've been in drought for several months, but suddenly it's showering or raining everyday. We're still 5" below normal, but the constant showers are allowing us to catch up. Haying has ground to a halt, but today is my last day as a full time employee after 28 years. Starting tomorrow I'm a full time farmer so I should have plenty of time to hay. I'm a devoted viewer now because you are a very good story teller and videographer. Every one of your vids is a jewel. My dad was a partner in an IH dealership when I was growing up. He didn't like the business part so he ended up getting a pickup truck (IH, of course) with a big portable welder and toolbox full of Snap-on tools and became the field mechanic. He was reputed to be the only mechanic in the region who could make an IH baler knotter work reliably. I would be his tool fetcher every summer vacation and learned a lot about mechanics. Every one of your tractors is a familiar sight and a joy to watch doing the job they were designed for.

I'm doing my part Pete, to spread the word about your channel. Every chance I get, I tell someone to check out your channel. My hometown in Nebraska is the site of the very first homestead applied for by Daniel Freeman just minutes after Abraham Lincoln signed the Homestead act in 1865. Just this past Sunday my wife and I visited the museum at the Homestead which is a national park. I was telling the two park rangers to check out your channel and they seemed very interested. The Homestead is really about acquiring land and farming it. They have an old Allis Chalmers Tractor on display in the museum and it is not restored. They wanted the patina to show. I thought of you when I saw it because it could use a good restoration. Thanks for your fine videos which are entertaining, educational and always enjoyable to watch.

As I said before, I love watching your vids and hearing your viewpoint and your sharing of your knowledge and experience. For me it brings back lots of fond memories and stories of family experiences as well and that's something that I cherish. We only had pigs on the farm for a short while when I was growing up but, I remember my mom talking about my grandad rushing in during farrowing with newborn piglets in his coat from time to time that were too cold and sickly and my grandmother warming them up in the oven wrapped in towels in hopes that it wouldn't die. Hearing your observation of being alarmed at seeing the calves outside your window also reminded me of my grandad getting a call from a well meaning state trooper in the wee hours one night. The trooper told him that there was a mule out on the road. Even though we didn't own mules my grandad went to see if he could help and found a fully grown angus bull on the road instead... I remember he just chuckled when he told us and said that he found it amusing that the trooper didn't know the difference between a mule and a bull. Anyway, I hope that you get some drier weather soon... stay safe and take care.

Hello Pete. I hope your able to read this. I'm the old fart from the mountains in Utah that was trying to get a hobby farm back east nearer to where we're from. The farm idea is to help us live longer and to daily appreciate the blessings the Lord provided. Well all that didn't work as planned. We touched down in western Ohio. I had my eye on a place in central Kentucky, 26 acres pasture, perimeter fencing. A waterer and a steel shop for infrastructure. It went under contract the day before i arrived. So we rented a place in Ohio. Well, oh my that wasn't promising enough to make a go of it. We kept looking for property both in Ohio and Kentucky. No farms for sale and the well was bad where we were. Awful water. Well Pete, we needed to take showers, drink water. I was desperate, we were desperate. We're a little long in the tooth. We were blessed to find a home in a subdivision in Kentucky. I'm here, mostly. We still have to get the last loads of stuff down from Ohio. Brother, I really enjoy your videos. I appreciate your family and the sharing of your lives with us. My name is Paul and my wife's name is Debby. I share jokes across the country and am depending on you for material. Keep it up. At least 2 little girls are benefitting through the suffrage of hearing their pop pop repeat those sage sayings. ☺️ And, check it out. Acts 17:10 We moved to Berea Kentucky. You got my dream job. We enjoy working with you ☺️😉 Respectfully Paul and Debby

Hi Pete we are getting strange weather system here in Northern Ireland, its rained on/off for weeks and now its going to be 28 Celsius over the weekend and thats a mini heat wave, over in Germany they are having massive floods . I remember over the summer when I was a kid (1990s) the grass was dry and brown , now its always green.

I hear you on this rain Pete! We are in Pennsylvania and probably experience some of the same storm systems you do. I can’t remember a stretch of heat and heavy rains like this, flood notices are common this past few weeks. Hope for dryer weather ahead, for us both!

At least someone's getting rain. Lol. Here in Shenandoah Valley in VA is dryyyyy. Had to put cows on new pasture that was going to be made into hay. Such is the life. Also want to say how much I appreciate your videos. I have a modest farm, 22 cattle, and use "older" equipment. Make all my own hay and love my land and animals. You are relatable, genuine and down to earth. Great content too.

Here in Europe we have lots of rain too, the ''Gerste'' , I think you call it barley, is ready for harvest but the rain says no. Greetings from Lower Saxony in the north of Germany. :-)

Hey Pete I enjoy watching your videos very much I'm 24, live in south western Pennsylvania I grew up on my neighbors farm where we raise corn, beans and alfalfa crop and have about 65 beef cattle and 40 pigs. I'm an owner operated semi truck driver now sometime I'm in New York I'd love to check out your family farm! We also use the old red tractors as well 😀

Once I found your channel, I loved the content so I keep coming back. Being from an island in Caribbean and having been raised by a mother who grew ground provisions and kept a few animals, I can relate to your content. We didn't have much but, because of her endeavours in agriculture, we were never hungry. Keep doing what you are doing.
