Excellent point, @Aalender. Most people who weren't rooting for South Carolina disparage what Dawn has built by saying that she simply has a tall team with a deep bench. She's assembled a team of McDonald's All-Americans who sacrifice playing time for the greater good. That's hard to do! Especially considering how young her players are and how popular the transfer portal is.

Great analysis, Claire. Thank you for giving Coach Dawn Staley and Lady Gamecocks the credit they deserve. It’s funny how lots of people discounted South Carolina because they lost their entire starting lineup to the WNBA. That’s a story in and of itself. The AP had Iowa 3 spots ahead of South Carolina in their preseason poll. The press pretty much ignored SC all year. Now, people act like going undefeated and winning the championship after losing such immense talent and leadership is an everyday occurrence. It’s absolutely not. South Carolina put their head down and got to work. They ignored the distractions. They ignored the disrespect. They turned toward each other and got the job done. Kudos to Coach Staley, the coaching staff and the Lady Gamecocks! True team effort! Congratulations!

Much respect for her and her achievements, but she lost and was in every picture with the gamecocks. If SC had lost, they would be an afterthought. Not to mention that CC was shut down and rattled after the first quarter by Raven. That alone shows what a good defender could do to her game. So yes, they were ignored

@builtonabudget6767 So, no one, no report had SC losing. Everyone agreed that SC was the better and best team in the country. SC got all the love. Also, it seems everyone had forgotten, CC torched SC, and every defender SC threw at her during the Final Four. If anything, it's a wash between those two games. @@MKelly-pm1np How ironic that you make weak phallic references yet fail to discover the ''free information'' you speak of. No one likes monopolization of talent - it destroys sport - which is why no one but gatekeepers/homers care about UConn, SC, Tenn, or any team that will get 25% of the 5 stars in an association of 350 teams. The championship game was a travesty. 500% more people showed that they are willing to tune in for an organically developed team that has a great talent and great coach. But the NCAA paves the way for a parody of competition, a team of all-blue chips. What's next, the Dream Team incorporates to play the League? This is why WBB has been dead on the vine for years. It took the best ever to break the boredom of the monopoly, the gatekeepers were happy to give her the fuzzy Tiger Woods treatment so no one will watch them. Next year will be the biggest drop year over year drop in viewers of any sport in history.

She put a taller player who could play defense on Clark to make her shots more difficult, put her scorers in the game to widen the score and once she got Iowa down she kept them down. Lisa Bluder is a nobody coach - she's been Iowa coach for 25 years - A QUARTER OF A CENTURY - and she hasn't developed one pro player in 25 years. Clark will be the first Iowa player who has a chance to make it as a legitimate pro player. Megan Gufstason was drafted out of Iowa a few years back, but she was cut before training camp was over and recently came back to the league as a minor bench player. Bluder is a poor recruiter whose best NCAA results in 25 years only happened the past two years with Caitlin Clark. If Bluder was being held to the same performance standard as other top NCAA coaches, she would have been fired years ago for poor results.

SC just wore Clark down with fresh legs. Clark wore down over time - 36 hours prior she scored 40 with UConn defenders harassing her. Her usage rate is hard to sustain in a tournament against great teams. If you look at the box score - SC destroyed Iowa (51-29) on the boards due to their size, including 11 more offensive rebounds. Nothing great from an X-O perspective - just depth and size. Staley should be lauded for building a juggernaut of talent like Uconn did in the 2000s.

This is parody right? One team with 10 5 stars , loses 5 and gets 5 more. Krusty the Clown could coach such an all-star inbalance of talent distribution to the Final Four after spending the day with Snoop Dog. - Imagine giving Coach of the Year to Red Aurbach. - Even the bent '60s NBA knew better than that - he had leveraged a talent in-balance and it wasn't great coaching but an all-star team (with 9 Hall of Famers) who won 8 in a row. Of course that nearly destroyed the NBA until draft reform and a salary cap directed Kareem and others around the leage in the 1970s, growing until the right moment - then exploding with Magic, BIrd, Jordan. - Right now IS the right moment for WBB with Clark (like a Magic/Bird) but the gatekeepers are trying to destroy the moment built by HER and claim it for themselves. Won't work. Clark and Iowa proved that 500% more viewers want to watch the WNCAA, but they want to watch a fairly built team, with a great star, the best coaching, and organically developed team work. Nobody wants to watch the same 5 teams win 70% of all of the championships, making the final 4 a joke most years. That's why nobody (but homers) cares about UConn's or SC's 5 star monopoly rings. - We are about to see the biggest drop in viewership of any sport league in history. Until we can stop praising the Emperor's New Clothes, the kingdom (or queendom) of the WNCAA will be dying.
