You coulda just tacked a bit of 300mm dpc onto battens over tiles.

Yeah that's a good shout. It would have saved a lot of time, but it would have looked pretty ugly, and I wasn't sure how quickly I would be able to get the money together for the side extension, so needed an element of "pretty" for it.

Hi..is that ordinary cement board...do you seal it first before first coat and mesh all of it...thanks

It is ordinary cement board, yes. It really depends what system you're using...! The product itself doesn't need sealing or coating in anything before having the base and mesh applied, but some rendering systems require you to apply a base product (like a proprietary acrylic primer) before doing the base coat and mesh. It really depends what rendering system you go for.

Pretty much any insulated cement board will do. I bought mine on eBay!
