In my younger years i was walking home through the backyards. I walked by my moms flower garden and 2 bumble bees chased me. I Yelled for mom, she opened the screen door, i run in and she quickly shut the door and the bee smashed its self on the window. But the 2nd one got me. I looked like the hunch back. That was the day we found out i was allergic to those nasty things. Be careful. Love watching you two.God bless ya.

I am so happy for you both. I remember being the deputy clerk for the city I lived in. I worked there so long because I couldn't make the same wage/benefits level anywhere else. I had to get so tired/stressed before I really realized how detrimental that was. I quit, determined to find a way to make it work, it was easier than I thought it would be. Don't look back! You will both be fine.

I love watching young folks like y'all take that leap of faith to do something that brings them joy. Ultimately, if you're not happy with your work life, it will eventually take your health. I will be here rooting you on as you building this homestead from the ground up. I hope the new well driller will be the one that gets water on your land so you can move out there and maybe get a couple of pigs or goats to help you clear those brambles. They love it. Have a Blessed day.

Watching you guys brings back memories of when my Dad bought land on a lake. Clearing for the house, garage & yard, clearing & stabilizing the shoreline, building the buildings & sheds, clearing a spot on the back 40 for a garden it was a big chore. Seeing the changes pretty much daily was one of our rewards. We did it all with family & friends & now have many great memories, not just of the work we put in but the time we got to spend there after it was finished. It`s a lot of work but so worth it in the end. Prayers to you both

Hi new watcher and very impressed with what you have done; My oldest daughter worked at the same hospital for 37 years. Started at 18 and worked her way up front desk admitting all the way to the position of CEO for credential / procedural mandates for two hospitals with the Medical Management Corporation. Yes she did get her degree& Masters working for the hospital but she was always "on call". She reached burn out about five years ago but was too young to retire and it was the start of Covid. She was forced to work from home and did that for 6 months. A position came open with the hospital she started with and was able to step down from her Managers position and take a lesser position working for the hospital again. What was nice was all her time n benefits were given back to her so she had worked for the hospital for 35 years. She realized if she worked till she was 46 and one day she could take full retirement from the hospital. She will get Social Security at age 66!! She and her husband both turned in there resignation on same day !! He has been working in banking as you were Shanon even though he had a masters in Education. He has found a job working in a Christian Charter School and loves it. I know this is long but everyone needs to take a chance if life shows it to you God Bless both of you n good luck

Shannon, I love the name Thorn-hill (Acres maybe). The iris will bounce back even if damaged. If they stop blooming, dig them up and make sure the rhizome is visible (the creamy white part of the root). You literally can’t kill them. I’ve dug them up and just laid them on the ground and they still come back. Congratulations on quitting your jobs and good luck with future endeavors and keep sharing anything you do. Watching your channel and the fun you're having, clearing the land, brings back so many wonderful memories for me. Thirty-five years ago, my husband & I bought 30 acres of "untamed" land. We spent many weekends clearing, burning, getting stung, dodging snakes, etc. and, eventually we had cows on it. Unfortunately, circumstances prevailed, and we were never able to build on the land. We had a travel trailer to sleep in, and even spent one Thanksgiving eating hot dogs out there. Five & a half years ago, my husband passed away, and I've had to turn over the "ranch" to my kids. It breaks my heart, but, watching the JOY that y'all are experiencing with your land, is a Godsend for me. Keep up the great work y'all. I'm watching & rooting for you.........🥰❤❤

Good for you both. After 21 years of doing what I was, I stepped back as well. Managing is not my thing, and when I went to a lower position, trying to help others all that happened was getting thrown under the bus and not appreciated at all. As of March, I work for pennies at my son's elementary school. My sleep schedule is better, I get to play with the littles, and the smiles on their faces when I help them is priceless. I'll get the summers off as well. Time for my family and myself. I haven't had a week of vacation since 2018. So kuddos my friends. I enjoy watching you two.

As almost 67 I know I won’t be spending time on a farm. 30 years ago my best friend had animals and I fed horses, cows, goats, dogs, cats and pigs. After she died from cancer my helping on a farm was over. I found a lot of great people on KZfaq during the pandemic. I don’t watch tv. One channel led to another. I have no idea who most “celebrities “ are but I can tell you the names of the animals on many channels. I know the families. Finding Adler farms and then Grandpa was what I needed. Then finding you was great. Watching all of you rebuilding your lives is amazing. Watch out for the wasps. God bless.

I'm getting ready to turn 63, and I learned two yrs ago that working for other people, had reached its end. I was the dependable hard worker with skills, working with a bunch of young people whose main goal was to see how little they could do, and still get paid....and a boss who catered to them. I said, NOPE, no more! My 90 yr old father thought I was crazy, as he grew up thinking differently about jobs....but, I was ready to be happy. ......I also have a strong faith in the Lord! Because I am active, love to do my own repairs, yard work, and gardening, I am able, and healthy. I'm also available to help my family too. I love it! ....and I still have dreams I would like to accomplish! God Bless, and have fun living life! :)

Hey, I, my husband and my mother are doing exactly what you are doing...at 82yrs, 75yrs and 65yrs old. We are doing it on our Social Security, one step at a time. We hurt like heck at the end of the day, and love every minute of it. We moved in on Christmas day and lived through the cold winter with no insulation, totally off grid. We wish we had made the decision you two did a long time ago. God bless you both. You will be in our prayers.

I am truly jealous of your wonderful adventure. I'm 72 and I was going to retire all everything and buy a mini mobile home and travel. Well that didn't happen so I really enjoy watching all my homesteaders on KZfaq.

I commend you both for talking over your dreams and deciding to leave the 9 to 5 world and start fulfilling your dreams. You both are like a clean slate. Make plans, write down your goals and see the big picture. You have the opportunity to walk hand-in-hand working on projects both big and small to make a house your home. Blessings as you start your life-long journey.

Never a dull moment. 👍👍👍Just had to stop by and see what you youngsters are up to. So happy you got to see a wild Turkey- they come up here and scratch around under the bird feeders. Keep some cracked corn scattered around and you’ll have a friend for life. 🥰🦃

If you can do it now! Do it! My husband and I had to work hard and long working and raising 2 children. We were in our 50's before we were able to own our own land! I'm happy to see you doing this together!

Great that you are building community and bartering with others. We did what you are doing years ago and ended up on acreage with a homestead/farm. We barter food for help, donate extra to friends with pigs, swap chickens, and barter farm products with a larger local farm for their customers or restaurant clients. We love the land, gardening, eating fresh organically grown food and the animals who help us. We believe that it is vital to grow real food.

If you going to be living in that camper for long term. Block up the camper to the frame on all four corners. It will take out the sway every time one of you move. Still use the factory jack but blocking up to frame will be a game changer on the moving

Kyle. Wasp traps that I set out here in Oregon are YELLOW. Just a hint for you, I'd put the tools in the truck in a different tote ( without the bright yellow lid). I'm allergic to bee's and I also don't wear yellow outdoors like where your land is. Great job kids. Wild turkeys are just big brown turkeys.

You did right with the Bradford Pear. After a number of years they split and lose big branches in storms . They do look nice in the spring but that is so short a time just for good looks. So you can imagine what you would Find one morning after a storm half of the tree on the ground and are left with an ugly tree that would have to be disposed of. Keep up the good work and learn from life.

I had a 25 yr old Bradford Pear that I planted when we moved to our location..we've been here 27 yrs now and our State Farm agent advised us to cut it down because the will blow over in a microburst or thunderstorm and crush your house..they have so many limbs and are very heavy ! Live how your place us coming along ! Mine was about 2 ft in diameter ..trunk size !

My son (32) is feeling the same way! He’s been a chef all his life, starting as a 15yr old at a weekend, pocket money job as a Goffer (Go for this, go for that) from that to college and further studies over the years. What he can do with food is exceptional. For the last 2 years the joy has gone, last month he decided enough is enough. Next week he’s starting a job in an office, if it works out great, if not back to the drawing board. There’s no point in doing something that doesn’t bring you joy, it’s not great for your mental or physical health. I wish you both love and luck for the future, from the UK 🍀

I definitely enjoy and appreciate seeing you go through your journey of clearing the land, issues with the well, etc. It's important to know all these details for future land purchases for so many people. These are not things that always are thought about before land is purchased. Many people take for granted that they'll buy some land, dig a well, and have good water supply. Thank you for showing us these things. Many prayers and much love to both of you! 🥰🤗
