@Eric-zk2hu Жыл бұрын
They were both breathing hard, it sure looks real like they are really going for it. Kareem was my original basketball hero, even from the UCLA days. Once they get within ten feet of the basket Kareem's height and technique is too much of an advantage, Julius just has to hope he misses. People think Kareem was just tall with a great hook shot but he was an all around good basketball player. Notice how he makes that drop step turn around to his left shot so naturally. Also he was a career 75ish per cent free throw shooter, I think all the guys who played for coach Wooden shot over 70% from the FT line, you don't play for Wooden and not have decent form shooting free throws. But real basketball is played full court, Dr J would have won full court.

@@purple8289 Maybe, but that's not quite accurate. In the 6th grade he worked with a man named George Hejduk who first taught him the skyhook. Don't know if Jabbar read Mikan's book (didn't know he wrote one) but Jabbar did use the drill that was named for Mikan and consisted of shooting a hook shot from the right side with the right hand, then a hook from the left side with the left hand and repeating while slowly moving further away from the basket. Kareem just came of retirement a year or 2 ago. Dr. J retired 7 years ago before this event. Kareem is 7'2". Dr. J is 6'6". That is 8 inches in height differential. Growing up Dr. J was my favorite player but he didn't have a chance on this one-on-one match with Kareem. I'm 5'10". It's like me playing one- on- one against 6'6" NBA player...don't have a chance!

This was supposed to be Kareem vs. Wilt. A rematch of sorts as Kareem beat him b4 one on one in his college days. Wilt's ego got in the way, he chickened out to avoid another ass kicking. This is all in Kareem's book btw. His beef with Wilt, etc. anyways, Doc filled in for Wilt, showing class and guts to get the butt whupping meant for Wilt Chamberlain.

It was a pleasure to watch these greats after all these years this was a friendly exhibition from two classy men and let it be understood a young Jordan against a young Kareem or wilt would probably fare worse
@thedudeunchained7583 Жыл бұрын
Nah, Jordan was far superior to Dr. J. No way he let Kareem dribble/back up all the way from 3point line into the paint and MJ was MUCH stronger. Talking late 80s to 90s MJ. The Doctor was great but not as strong a defender as MJ. Plus MJ had that turnaround fadeway which was the equivalent of the unblockable skyhook. Still in a serious prime one on one I'd expect the 7.2 Kareem to win against a guard. Jordan is even a bit shorter than Erving. BUT if ANY guard has a chance it is hands down MJ. Love this clip by the way ! ! !

@@thedudeunchained7583 that’s a respectable and knowledgeable take from what I understand it was supposed to be wilt instead of doc Never happened like when shaq and Hakeem did those commercials I took Hakeem in that one
@thedudeunchained7583 Жыл бұрын
@@ricogonzalez7508 Thanks 🙂 and fully agree, Hakeem would kill Shaq with his footwork on offense and has the defensive presence to make it hard for Shaq to score. And in a one on one aint´t nobody feeding Shaq so he gotta actually dribble...I know he has some handles but not enough to blow past Hakeem. Hakeem is also faster and has range to his shot . Dream is also one of the best shot blockers all time. According to Kenny Smith (very recent interview on Draymond Green´s podcast) , Hakeem would make 5-8 three pointers outta 10 attempts (all positions) and also run through all the guard drills with Kenny and Sam Cassel. Kenny said: Dream, why don´t you shoot 3s in the game ? Hakeem: Why should I ? Only Robinson and Ewing are any challenge for me inside, would be stupid to take a three pointer ;-) !

Yup, I looked it up and Kareem was 1 for 18 in his career. (It came in a game against the Suns, a long offensive rebound bounced into the corner and Kareem tracked it down and then shot it. I thought he did it to beat the shot clock but actually the shot clock had re-set! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mreVipNo3N3Gmac.html )

Yeah it's not really a pretty sight watching old legends play. But the nostalgia makes it bearable but I'd rather not see them in that state. Unless they've been pretty active. Cuttion Mobley, baron Davis were still pretty good around their 40s. But Dr J and Kareem , you could see they've stopped playing for quite a while.
