The Senators have traded Erik Karlsson to the Sharks for a big bunch of stuff. Was it enough? Here's my take on the giant deal.

Looking back on it, Norris wouldn't be anything in SJ. Like he would just sit and maybe be a Top 9 guy so I'm not mad at it Balcers is back in San Jose (And he's good) Tim Stutzle is aight I guess still though Karlsson for Stutzle and Norris is pretty even maybe we lose by a bit, cause Karly is now back with raging offensive talent

Wilson had by far the best offseason in hockey; he shed aging players in Ward, Martin, Hansen and Fehr, finally did something about Boedker and in the process abused Ottawa twice, acquired draft picks and also acquired the best defenseman in hockey and maybe one of the best all-time. Not only did he do this but he locked up Couture for 8 years, Kane for 7 years, Hertl for 4 years and also drafted Merkley and Linus Karlsson who looks like a gem, yes Wilson is a bad bad man and has been for a long time, just never gets credit being in San Jose

When I was at work a got the notification that he was traded on my watch so I secretly snuck my phone out to take a quick peak. I only had a second because I didn't want to get caught on my phone and saw the long list of things the sens got and thought "they didn't actually do too bad!". However, when I was done for the day and actually got to read what they got I quickly realized I was mistaken lol

Unbelievable story, makes me feel better about the Hall Larsson trade that still haunts my nightmares. Pacific division looks nasty this year, feels like all the teams in it added HUGE pieces except the Oilers who were probably the team tht needed to the most. I predict another high draft for Edmonton this year sadly. I also find it EXTREMELY hard to believe that tampa bay or any other team in the east didnt offer something better than the sharks did for karlsson...blows my mind that a gm in 2018 will handcuff himself from half the potential trade partners in the league just because he'd rather play against the guy 2-3 times a season instead of 4-5...

Damn... Sharks defence is probably the best in the league...if not... Burns , Karlsson and Pickle Vlasic could be the best top 3. I just cannot imagine the SJ Power Play. And they didn't give too much of presents assets sooo they sent the message to the League... They want the Cup ... And now...Well, im sorry Sens fan, it's a tough trade for them but the message is clear... They want a rebuild... No choice anyway

Also Braun is a very underrated defender. Now I'm sure pairing with Vlasic makes your numbers look better. But still need to be talented to be on the first pairing.

@@metalxhorse Yea he does. Sharks are gonna be able to finally role out 3 great D pairings where last season they really only had 2 and half. And yet they still had one of the best Defense in the league. And in the playoffs had to settle with Martin as the 6th man who saw very little time on the ice. Yet now we may even be looking at someone as talented as Braun on the 3rd pairing. As Burns Karlsson & Braun are all right handed shots. So hard to imagine any of them on the same line. And can't see Burns or Karlsson being on the 3rd pairing. So I would expect 1st pair Vlasic & Karlsson, 2nd Burns & Ryan and 3rd Dilion and Braun. Which means we will have the best true defensemen and the 1st or 2nd best offensive defensemen on pair one. Then the other top 2 offensive defensmen and a talented young Ryan. And then a 3rd pairing of two talented defenders. Also I can't even imagine how much of a nightmare the PP will now be. As they can split up Burns and Karlsson between the 1st and 2nd unit. Also can't wait to see what Kane, Pavs & Thornton can do together. Was so smart to lock up Kane. He's always had tons of talent yet always played on some of the worst teams in the NHL back when the Jets where bad and the Sabres where bottom feeders. And we all saw what Kane can do on a actually talented team. And that was without Thornton out there on the line.

@@XxM1KA3LxXI don't see any team that has any better at least in terms of a mix of offensive and defensive D. I mean they have to two very best without doubt offensive Dmen in the league. As well as the arguable the best true defensive Dman in Vlasic. So even without Braun if it was Ryan or Dilion I would still take one of them and Vlasic, Burns & Karlsson over any other top 2 pairs in league. But that's just me as a biased Sharks fan.

Here's a few things I see from a Sharks standpoint 1. The Sharks also missed on Pacioretty besides Tavares and O'Reilly. So Karlsson becomes the plan D. 2. I also think Brent Burns is overrated because his defense on the ice is terrible, great on offense, but that's it. Would love to move his contract...

As a sharks fan, I'd say we're contenders on paper, but until we actually see how the team plays with Karlsson, Jumbo and Kane together for the first time, I don't think it makes much sense to say we're favorites. That being said, I haven't been this excited going into the season in a long time.

Steve, your should re do this video knowing what you know now. Hinsight being 20-20, I think this blew up in your face. It was arguably the best trade in last few years. Karlsson has been on a major decline, and both Norris and Stutzle are in the Calder race.

If (and it's a big if) you are right about the role than an aversion to trade and make deals with the Eastern Conference played in the Karlsson deal, it is a fireable offense, in my view.

Steve, I think when Babs said that pain was coming, he meant it for sens fans. I am a sens fan, and I can say with confidence that everyone should be fired. Dorion is too scared to trade to the east, so we lose a big return for hoffman and karlsson (and hoffman is in our division anyway), we lose a=our next years first, and just so much more with an uncertain future. and our coach needs to be gonzo lonzo for messing up 2017-18. Melnyk should fire himself.... KARLSSON SAID HE WANTED TO STAY AS A SENATOR!! GIVE THE MAN HIS MONEY!!!

In a league of 31 teams, every once in a while an entire front office becomes a dumpster fire And sometimes the same people causing the inferno are charged with dealing a superstar. For reference, the Habs traded Patrick Roy during a shitstorm and 23 years later still haven't recovered. And that is not hyperbole. You can plausibly trace many of the current day habs problems to that awful fall in 1995. Brace yourself sens fans, your grandkids will be talking about this trade.

Someone needs to make an old-style 1940's-50's PSA titled "So your team has taken a penalty against the San Jose Sharks" As a Sharks fan, this is ridiculous. I am glad none of the core players left, a little wary about the number of 1st's and 2nd's we gave up. If they don't resign Karlsson this can turn out to be a bad trade with the number of high draft picks they are giving up. That said, Karlsson and Burns are 25 min a night guys. For near the entire game one of the will be on the ice oh and then you have Pickles who is one of the top defensive defencemen in the league. Leaving 3 well rested D to rotate through. Then there is the powerplay. Running Burns and Karlsson on the same unit with their offence. Good luck teams, i suspect you will all be getting a very stern expletive warning about not taking a penalty before each game and during each intermission.

Doug wilson has to be if not one of the greatest gm's of all time he's fleeced 2 teams in the span of 12 years. he fleeced the bruins in 2005 when he got joe thorton for Marco sturm and Wayne Primeau and brad stuart and now he's fleeced the sens

Dr. Jules there’s more to being a GM than cup wins you dingus. He’s not the coach or a player. His job is to get them pieces, his role is relatively removed from an actual cup win. The sharks have also been making the playoffs pretty consistently for some time.
