I think the reason Gosling works so well in comedies is because he plays comedies as a drama, while Reynolds plays comedy as a comedy. Ryan Reynolds basically always plays comedy roles like someone who knows he's in a comedy and wants the audience to know he's in a comedy so he can deliver some tongue-in-cheek lines, while Gosling plays comedies just like a drama, aka a character stuck in a situation that's out of their control and they're reacting to that

Fun little Ryan Gosling film set story! I work in the film industry in Australia (in Melbourne) but I have friends that went over to Sydney to work on this movie and someone told me one of the catering girls one day dropped a bunch of food from their trey around set. She was embarrassed and dropped to her knees to start picking up the food. And while she was picking the food up, someone ran over to help her. When she looked up it was Ryan Gosling helping her pick up the food she had spilt. She said she got extremely red and blushed hard. He smiled, chatted with her and helped her out. I know this story isn't the biggest deal, but just wanted to spread the word that Ryan Gosling, is a certified good dude on set, at least around the Australia scene. I know this seems small, but many actors and people for that matter, would not do the same as what Mr. Gosling did.

@@Judawesome Howdy! That's all good, i'm happy to answer! Basically the way I and other colleagues/friends I know (that aren't nepo babies) got in because of passion, and dedication to film. Basically, it's kind of something you have to put time into. That means working on your own films or helping out with other peoples films, like friends or meeting people from Starnow (for example). It's starting anyway you can to get on a film set, even if that means working for free at first. In fact I would say that's most likely a given. You work on X amount of films for X amount of times - day after day, week after week, month after month, year after, year (however long it takes) until eventually someone in the industry you've met who is most likely a friend of yours or friend of a friend who works in the industry gives you a shot. So basically, I guess it's just you start doing it. Go on StarNow, work on as many sets as you can, fall in love with it, and then eventually if you keep at it, you'll be on a film set. Hope this helped! Not sure if this is what you were asking, but this is what came to mind.

The Fall Guy made me realise one reason why there aren’t any movie stars now, because directors don’t shoot them properly anymore, but The Fall Guy actually films Ryan Gosling (and to a lesser extent Emily Blunt) like actual movie stars. It’s a bit like Challengers where the camera is clearly in love with these people in some way. Personally I quite liked it and I think we would do well to have more movies like The Fall Guy and fewer like Free Guy.

Nobody wants to go to the movie theater if the movies are garbage. I remember last summer going to see Barbie on a Saturday night and the theaters were packed. It was the first time since the pandemic that everything felt normal. No masks, everybody happy, while they wolfed down giant bags of popcorn. And then two months later when Barbie was gone, it was back to mostly empty theaters with people bored out of their minds. ( looking forward to "The Fall Guy" and DeadPool 3 this summer, I also watched about 20 trailers for summer movies that look super cheezy and tell horrible stories. Yuk. )

I see your point but Dune 2 being the only guaranteed "hit" (despite only getting 700mil so far) doesn't say a lot. It's a popular IP which has a story of struggle being adapted, and the follow up to a first part which was critically acclaimed. With a great director, DP and composer, and a stellar cast?? I feel like if a movie needs all of this to be a guaranteed hit (which, let's remember, Dune 1 wasn't) the point still stands.

The Fall Guy was one of the best movies I've seen in a while. It was easy to enjoy. It didn't feel antagonistic or preachy towards the audience. It had heart, it had humor, it was as clever as it needed to be. It had likeable characters and deliveries... and it had so much fun action. I could tell how much passion went into it, not necessarily because of the plot... but because of the stuntwork and the love of movie magic. Honestly this movie isn't about a missing actor or a murder setup plot.... it's about making movies, it's Colt and Jody, and it's about reconciliation. 9.5/10 Can't wait for the extended cut.

I personally felt this movie was quite insincere about it celebrating or being for stuntmen epescially considering that the film still ended up using stuntmen for its stunts. Also there a couple of plot holes like the phone being destroyed and them not checking the sim card or a small one with colt fake out death and nobody thinking to check the area. I get this supposed to be more lighthearted so i suppose I shouldn't be looking too deep into it but felt like they could done better explaining these things. Lastly that ending started to drag for me and felt as if they ran out of time at the end.

Ryan Gosling’s goodwill is really carrying this. The movie is average, all the characters say their lines with an inflection and a pause that clearly implies they think the dialogue is hysterical. It wasn’t, for me or most of the people in the hall I was in. Also SPOILERS- Making the movie within the movie a goofy spoof of obviously low quality just made Emily Blunts character come off as inept and clueless. If they had made it a clear clusterfuck which Blunt was fighting to keep together, THAT would be a strong motivation for both their characters. Comparing this to Maverick in ANY way, is mind boggling.

Having just watched the fall guy, it really deserves being the best movie this year. The only bad thing I can say about it the deus ex machina gun shots but other than that, the casting, the lines, the actions, the stunts obviously, it was a solid 9/10 movie

It was a really fun movie! I think you named my criticisms of it very well, because I could just feel that something was missing but couldn't tell what. Definitely liked it a lot more than bullet train

I was so sceptical but i saw it yesterday and it is so fun!!!! Ryan and Emily have great chemistry, pacing is great, stunts are great! Yes there r couple of minor plot holes (like how he had such a drastic fall but in 18 months he is falling and fighting?). But still it was worth movie ticket!

I just came out of the fall guy and I had a lot of fun watching the movie I don’t think it’s the best movie of the year but it’s certainly a banger so yeah the acting was solid the camera shots were good and it’s a nice love letter to stuntmen and stuntwomen 8.9/10

I love how it's mentioned a few times that the movie within the movie is supposed to be Emily Blunt's character's big passion project, and it's basically just _Dune: the Snyder Cut_

Fall Guy reminds me of another movie Ryan Gosling was in, Nice Guys. Both are creative comedies with excellent writing and characters with a wacky murder plot revealed near the end. In both Nice Guys and Fall Guy there is an epic final action sequence where Gosling's character is trying to get his hands on a piece of key evidence.

I actually think this is where Michael Bay's void is felt, I personally absolutely loved the first three transformers movies, despite getting mostly mixed reviews after the first. It completely knows what it wants to be, I thought all three movies were super funny and the action sequences and cgi were pretty top notch.

Saw this movie in a sneak two weeks ago and was so positively surprised we got to watch it. As a person who's followed film sets and the stunt community for almost a decade I had such a good time. Was it cheesy? Absolutely. But the humor clicked and I really enjoyed myself 👏🏻

It‘s because comedy profits from good acting if done right just as much as other drama. So no surprise for me. Like horror it‘s an underrated genre.

I dont know but there was something about this movie that made it not hit home for me as much as i thought it would. I'm Australian and live in Sydney so seeing those stunts happen in streets ive walked down was really cool and i remember when they were filming they showed it on the news. The comedy hit and the stunts were phenomenal but for some reason i kinda felt bored watching it. Idk maybe i was expecting a more Ken/Holland March from Ryan in the movie and my expectations were in the wrong place once its out on DVD I'll probably rewatch it and really enjoy it because i know what kind of movie it is but on my first viewing i didnt like it too much id probably give it a 6.5 as of now but i can see it growing on me on a rewatch

The car chase scene was the only thing that didn’t really work for me as action because I live in Sydney, and it’s choppy, it doesn’t follow Sydney layout whatsoever and just watching it made me feel like it was not coherent unlike movies like deadpools first scene keeping with the freeway you can focus on the action cause it’s not changing location million times
