That's what over 50 years of propaganda does to people. Because the books were written during the Cold War, their protagonists are clever and handsome western agents triumphing over clumsy and ugly soviet henchman. Movies were casted appropriately. And now everyone mindlessly associates middle aged Russians with villains and Chinese manufacturing with cheap knockoffs and poor quality.

I saw the Bb6 sacrifice, but wasn't sure if it'd work, but I can see there are alot of checks Kasparov could've given and potentially promote another queen... Another thing is, when Hikaru trying to checks with the queen, Kasparov could probably move his king towards the h file, although it's probably dangerous and not really playable in time trouble...

Would love to know if there is deep computer analysis of all the starting positions, it feels like some of the configurations would have a much greater advantage for white than the normal game. That would mean you'd have to play the same position against the same opponent with both white and black which maybe isn't ideal for tournaments.

Garry is a living legend, an absolute genius; to come so close to defeating one of the Candidates players, at his age, and in 960, which is for mine the purest form of the game now that we are in the age of engines, is absolutely extraordinary. Hikaru didn’t really beat him either, the clock did. Anyway we are lucky to still have him playing actively in events like this, and I might cheekily suggest that Carlsen might look to Kasparov for lessons in how former champs might conduct themselves!
