I like Antonio saying Tigran coolly takes the gambit, walks the king around and finally blunts the attacker that he throws in the towel. Yes this is Kasparov's ruined masterpiece, but it is also Tigran's beautiful sorcery. Thanks Antonio for bringing us this game

Five attackers on the Queen side where the King was wandering, the sixth is the sniper that already aim to exactly where the King was, and the Black's King was out front. It was crazy that Tigran still managed to defend with cold-blooded play.

I love the different format of this video, this game definitely deserved more than the traditional "pause the video moment." Perhaps an entire series of near-masterpieces could be fun! Games like this where "pause the video" simply isn't enough, but rather we see the brilliance that could've been if even one or two moves had been played differently.

the big K guys have played over 150 classical games with eachother (draws are only 119). there will be no rivalry greater that kasparov vs karpov ever.

#suggestion Max Weiss vs William Pollock 1889 this game was played at the 6th American Chess Congress which was considered the first candidates tournament as the winner of it would had the chance to challenge Steinitz for the title. This game won the brilliancy prize and it's very very brilliant i saw it for the first time today and I had a great time.

I mean this respectfully, buylt you must be REALLY new to chess! Tigran is one of the most legendary chess players ever: defensive minister, exchange sacrifice tactician, and positional magician. You'll love his games, especially the ones where he fends of the best of attackers like Mikhail Tal, Korchnoi and Keres!

Im asking myself - To defend so well you need to see all attacking Options, all Dangers in the position and this makes you vice versa to a good attacker, but Tigran never did. I guess he just didn't feel like it? Maybe he saw all the Refutations and prefered to let his opponets commit 'the mistake'? Fascinating dude for sure

It amounts to what kind of structures the player prefers. Petrosian certainly could play an attacking style effectively, and did on occasion, but the resulting positions were likely not to his taste. Think of it like some opening you don't really like. Sure you can learn it and play it but for you it's uncomfortable and you'd rather something else. Like that.

Ben Finegold says he prefers playing defensively and waiting for his opponent to make a blunder (which at their level is a less than optimal move). Maybe Tigran was the same. It comes down to personal preference and it works just as well, I think. After all, reusing the Kasparov quote from this game, "Chess is mental torture". No I'm not going to take a hit at you -- I'm going to wait for you to attack me, then beat you with your own fist! And everyone playing against Petrosian would know this, so I?m sure it affected their attack.

No preference on colouring the pictures, however I think for this game. Black and white was the best fit. With so many subtle quiet moves, it felt like the theme was silent giants. I think black and white definetly more appropriate in this case.

#suggestion If the photos have a nice sharpness to the detail, as these do here, then leave them in black-and-white. Colourization should only be applied to fuzzy photos.

#suggestion i just checked the tournoment after i saw this game. 3 people could win at last round. Alexander G Beliavsky vs Jan Timman game (last round) was an awesome attack satrting with a piece sac and then ending the attack up a piece. check that game out, you might wanna show some great games from that tournoment.

c4-a5 with check has some interesting lines with rook sacrifice on b5 but does white win? if c6xa5, then b3xb5+, pawn takes b5, queen takes pawn with check, if b7-a7, a2xa5 mate or after c6xa5, d2xa5 white square bishop can also win exchange with black knight once queen is on 5 rank tease some of these out Antonio? better to find more ways that kasparov muffed it!

For me this doesn't look like a Kasparov Masterpiece. he didn't find the move. Are we in 40 years going to analyse some Firouja game where he almost beat Magnus? Brilliant game by Petrosian. Amazing win and hats of to his amazing defence proess.
