Tip on maintenance on a vehicle. Regular oil changes are key to keeping your vehicle running well and it will stay loyal to you for a very long time. Consider the oil in your vehicle as important as the blood in your veins.

My family has been frugal by necessity for almost 2 decades, but we’re still learning. My husband has jumped in lately with repairing things with the help of KZfaq videos. He also just negotiated down an orthodontic quote, saving us almost $1000. Felt like a total win to us for what we feel is the best treatment, and we’ll pay it all upfront and save a little more that way. So much really is negotiable, if we’re gutsy enough to ask.

Forget the clearance racks - I'd shop all of the local thrift stores first. We have a couple that are so cheap, it's almost impossible to find it cheaper on the discount rack. On the other hand, I have found formal wear for an amazing price on the discount rack, when I had a special need for it. You just never know.... Just don't get sucked into buying something you don't really need because it was discounted!

I don't look at clearance racks because I don't need anything. I only shop if I need something. And there are so very few things that I need. I get what I need and then get out of there. I don't like to shop.

I don't go shopping with friends. I find I tend to buy more when in company, as it becomes a "social activity", than alone, when I can be more purposeful.

Good point. I do the same thing...shop alone! I find that l can get in and out of stores in an hour or two by myself. If a friend goes with me, it becomes three or four hours because they always want to look at everything, whereas l have a list, know where things are, and want to get in and out quickly!

As the warm weather is on it's way, this frugal gal doesn't ever set her thermostat below 78 degrees. I open up windows in the early hours to let in cool and then I close up and shut my thermal blocking curtains. I also utilize fans a lot. This saves me a ton of money in the hot months. Another thing I've been doing lately is using a shorter run time on my dishwasher and non heated dry. Plus I always set the delay so it runs after 9pm. I am pleasantly surprised the dishes are just as clean and not spotty basically airdrying. Oh another thing I did to avoid late fees (since I am still paying off a few credit cards...) is I asked them to set my due date to coincide with my second paycheck. Before I did this it was always about three days before payday which was no Bueno.

People have such a funny idea about what being frugal is. They think its being cheap, and not wanting things which isn't true at all. The first thing you mentioned ..........ahhhhhh it sang to my heart ! It's my saying ! Never pay full price for anything if you can help it . I recently needed to get a new phone and a new laptop, and got great deals on both (whew!) in the same week. I don't pay late fees, I don't pay interest, I don't pay one penny more than i have to for anything. Clearance racks/areas Yes !!!!! every time ! tfs 🥰🌵💐🌷🌼🌞🏜️💗🥰🌵💐🌷🌼🌞🏜️💗🥰🌵💐🌷🌼🌞🏜️💗🥰🌵💐🌷🌼🌞🏜️💗🥰🌵💐🌷🌼🌞🏜️💗

I began my frugal lifestyle when I began decluttering and minimalizing. I saw how much I'd spent on stuff I had to have that I was now getting rid of or selling. I realized that in many areas of things I enjoyed, I had two very related "hobbies:" buying books and reading & buying yarn and knitting. I found ways to DO what I wanted without the buying. Also, I begin eating down my freezer in March because I live in hurricane prone (e.g. power outages) Florida. I keep my freezer full of frozen water containers.

When I meal plan I make a list of options. I find that easier than marking it all down on a calendar. There are both easy quick on more elaborate choices for how our day is going.

Yes, just a list of meals that can be picked from. Some quick and easy, others that require more time for when you have more time. The best ones are making a big batch of something, make a meal and freeze the rest.

I also almost never pay full prices. Tips for getting discount for Apple products: I discovered that Costco sells old model Apple products at a discount. This happens when Apple comes out with the newer model & no longer sells the old model in their stores (physical & online). I bought the 9.7” iPad in late 2018 at Costco for $150 off. I saw the Apple Watch series 3 on sale a month ago at Costco. I just bought the Apple Watch SE from Staples online at 10% off this weekend. There was an online coupon code. It’s unheard of to get discount on current Apple products. Kate, you mentioned you’re thinking of buying an Apple Watch. Get the SE instead of the series 6 if you don’t need the blood oxygen monitoring feature. The SE is like the 6. I watched a lot of KZfaq videos on the comparison between the 2. Or you can also get the series 3 on sale.

Save $ on take out and decrease the probability of having a lazy day and doing delivery by meal planning and also having treats in the freezer. A Hungry Man TV dinner or a $12 steak is a lot cheaper for my husband when I’m working than Chinese food. When I’m overtired a PF Chang frozen entree may be a splurge compared to pasta but it’s cheaper than Domino’s!

We cook at home but we feel lazy, tired or ill sometimes. To prevent us from ordering food what we do is cook a double portion from time to time and keep those extra servings in the freezer. Perfect for taking to work for lunch. We also have simple dinners when we don’t want to cook: a salad with tuna, an omelette or a sandwich really go a long way

Never pay to have my car washed. I do it myself. But, since my family knows this about me, they treat me for my birthday, Mother’s Day, or just because. Same goes for manicures and pedicures, never pay for them. Works out great because they always know what to get me ;)

I buy equipment at local shops, never in a megastores. You get professional advice, you can bargain and get service 👍. And help small businesses to stay! Do compare online before you shop!👀 Especially with electronic equipment! I always try to choose for the best quality brand I can afford for electronics 📺🛋️⌨️ but only buy when I really need to and no time sooner than it does not work anymore. Just as for shoes I go for quality. ( I don't mean any fashion labels for shoes but the ones that work for my body and last a long time) 👟😊

I'm a fanatic about car maintanence. My car receives oil charges every 3000 miles. I troubleshoot my own car repairs. The best money I spent is a code reader for my car. That way I know what needs to be fixed and how much the repairs will cost. I buy a car and drive it for years. My current car is a 2001 model year. Ive had it since it since the 2002's came out.

We have alot of birthday parties, holidays, and random get togethers through the year. We have no debt and got a great deal on the house. Plenty big enough for all the kids staying over. The one thing I am going to cut out next month is paying for dish network satellite! I would have cut it out long ago but I have a two-year contract and it ends next month! But the one I really follow is, I rarely ever pay full price for things! Like the iPhone I have now, I bought from my sister and only paid $100! And I usually shop around for better pricing! Like my phone plan right now is only $35 on cricket wireless! Since watching frugal videos, I am on Wi-Fi almost all the time so I cut my plan down to only 10 gigs of data! I love to comparison shop, yes it's time consuming but totally worth it! You may think you are getting a good deal, but once you do the math on price per unit it's not always the case.

Price comparison? What? Isn't that a natural part of peoples natural instincts like using a rest room? Just kidding. I've been broke. Price comparison was necessary for years and now it's as natural to me as eating. I'm not broke anymore, now I'm frugal and love it. It means I can use my money on fun stuff like downpayments at my mortage, great vacations and organic, local, delicious food. Frugality means freedom to me.

At my last job, we had vending machines. I kept saying I wasn't going to buy anything else from the vending machines. But I'd get desperate sometimes, because I worked 12-hour shifts, and sometimes I'd get hungry because I didn't bring enough food, so I'd resort to the vending machines. Some people ate lunch everyday out of the vending machines. They were a booming business. The best seller was the honey buns. I'm very frugal. I feel once you get in a groove, it's pretty routine and easy. It just comes natural, to me, anyway.

I work 10-12 hour shifts. I have a drawer of stuff I keep at work. Never buy from a vending machine! Also keep some stuff in my car trunk.

I meal planned like you when it was just my son and I... now he is grown and I have 3 step kids... I can see the need for making a meal plan more lol except everyone likes different stuff so I meal plan a few nights and it’s leftovers or fend for yourself with cheap stuff (hotdogs or canned soup) the other nights...

Because our internet is so slow, I went back to expensive satellite TV. In fact, my family wouldn’t come to visit me unless I got every sports channel. They are sports nuts! 😆 I like Skippy, but I bake with JIF.

My first day in the states, I went to buy something from a vending machine, and it only took dollar coins. Not bills. Not any other coin. That was pretty weird.
