It's learned elocution, the mid-Atlantic accent.

Actually, her accent had nothing to do with "classic Hollywood". No one else in Hollywood spoke like that.

Her forceful honesty is remarkable! Poor Morley is trying to say how laudable old age is and she rightly points out how the elderly are dumped into homes. She is one person who had the blessings of a strong family and wealth, able to avoid that anonymous death faced by many.

Katharine Hepburn was always so candid and honest; I always admired her, along with Bette Davis and Elizabeth Taylor, and the reasons why these three actresses were among my favorites had to do not only with their remarkable talents, but their forthrightness...they said what they wanted to say, and if somebody didn't like it, too damn bad!!! Eh, in my both views are right to some degree, and yet both are too extreme in either direction: some sort of humbly withdrawn "passing of the torch" but yet still worthwhile/deserved involvement approach of [and appreciation for] the elderly is ideal - not only for just them, but for everyone of all ages in society. 👌🏼

I don't think any actor/actress today could be as honest, direct, and frank as Katherine is here. And although this fear of being honest could be because of the increasing lack of privacy experienced by said actors/actresses, or the much faster rate at which statements they make are spread and criticized today, I'd love to watch an interview with an actress in which she has the courage to speak her mind and say something like "Aging is horrible, just kills us when it's time".

I think it says something that her female peers, that is to say, other actresses, women like Lauren Bacall, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Vivien Leigh, judy Garland, Marlene Dietrich, Judy Holliday, Tallulah Bankhead are all on record as absolutely adoring her. Find me another actress who was so universally admired by her peers as this one was. That says something about her character right there.
