If he was in love with her as much as he claims to have been, he would have been desperately looking for reasons to stay, not desperately looking for reasons to leave. Greg doesn't love Katie, he loves himself. Not once did he consider her feelings, her fathers death (not only her fathers death, finding out he's not biologically her father), for him to have been so cruel to her the next day when she was begging him to stay, that she's sorry and that if he goes she'd have no reason to stay. If he was in love with her it would have pained him to see her like that. He would have looked for solutions, looked for anything that would have kept him there like she was doing. He wanted to leave, he wanted a dramatic exit on a tv show and he wanted it to be Katies fault so he could look like the good guy at the end. I don't believe him. I don't believe he was in love with her, honestly don't think he even liked her that much.

What got me about Greg was that he didn’t express things in terms of what he felt or that he needed something else, instead he made it about who she was, attacking her character almost. To see so many people defending that, after having gone through that in a previous abusive relationship, felt almost as triggering as watching that interaction go down. It

Oh. My. God. I completely agree with EVERY WORD. This analysis is so spot on. The episode was very triggering to watch. I’m a guy, I just got out of a relationship, and Greg’s behavior was almost identical to my ex girlfriend’s. So often men do this to women, but I’ve experienced similar emotional abuse at the hands of my ex. Watching this was so validating and actually helped me process my past relationship and why ended. Thank you!
@SavvyGirl751

Greg is highly narcissistic. I was married to a diagnosis narcissist (NPD). Greg’s behavior was exactly what my ex husband did to me. I have C-PTSD and that episode should have come with a trigger warning. Greg’s mask fell. He got mad at Katie for “going off script” not fitting the role he made for her. Greg was mad that Katie had a boundary and did not move it. That was a textbook narcissistic temper tantrum; it was toxic. It is not normal and nobody should be treated that way. He never loved her. Thank you ladies this is the episode so many of us survivors needed.

Greg’s behavior was so horrific to me. I was shocked watching it. I was shocked that they aired it. It was honestly probably the worst thing I have ever watched throughout all the seasons. I am so thankful for this podcast. Unfortunately, the first recap out was Viall's and it was well...pretty vile. Thank goodness for Wells Adams; I can tell he wanted to defend Katie more, but that is clearly not a pro-Katie environment. The co-host in the background was particularly toxic in mocking Katie's grief, calling her fake, shallow, scripted, etc...I was genuinely upset all day by how vicious they were to her, and yet they gave Greg 100% benefit of the doubt because he "gave her so much." Can Bach Nation stop pretending that Nick isn't still as toxic and manipulative as he was on Andi Dorfman's season? Does anyone recall the way he harassed her after she didn't pick him? And because she didn't respond to his phone calls or the letter he wrote and didn't want to see him after the show, he went on national TV and slut-shamed her for clout??? And then he vociferously defended Colton against accusations of "plotting" to be the Bachelor (is this even still a question??), saying it was "crazy" for anyone to think of someone plotting for that long, despite the proof of him faking a relationship with Tia Booth when it was rumored that she was going to be the Bachelorette. He ALWAYS defends the men on the show who are accused of that because he's afraid it will turn around back on him. Like, he pre-emptively defends himself every time the topic comes up, while simultaneously acknowledging that he was playing a huge game and wants to be acknowledged for being such a genius strategist and doing everything "perfect." And then he feels the need to unnecessarily share his "wisdom" with the female guests of the show (still never forgotten how condescending he was to Demi in particular). And I know it seems strange for me to come for Nick seemingly out of the blue, but he is literally OBSESSED with the way Katie supposedly "treated" Thomas earlier in the season (a man who lied to her face multiple times and tried to emotionally manipulate her and every man in the house). For some reason, he's making it his mission to single-handedly rehabilitate Thomas' image, and it's just overall fucking weird how he can't help defending every narcissistic sociopath to walk onto our TV screens. He's been gaslighting his audience for a long time when it comes to defending men like himself, but then has the gosh darn nerve to give Katie "advice," saying it would be a "bad look" for her to defend herself and instead just "move on" on the aftershow (knowing full well ATFR has already been taped)? I have never ONCE heard him attempt to give Katie any grace in these moments or sympathize with her in any way expect in the ways he can identify with her as the lead, yet he expects her to willy nilly give it to GREGORY "I DESERVE MORE THAN YOU" GRIPPO? Anyway, I absolutely loved Ari's contributions, and thought she placed Jess' "grounding Bekah" role very well. Thank you again for this analysis; it is very much appreciated.

Let's also not forget that he felt "hurt" that she assumed he was an expecting an "I love you." So what exactly did he want to hear from her? He never articulated it, but just kept blaming/shaming her for not responding well. But honestly I was confused by what he was expecting. Clearly he wanted a verbal response, but if he didn't care about her validating his position in the show, an "I love you," etc. then what exactly did he expect? He's toxic AF.

I don’t think he would have been happy unless she chose to leave the show with him before fantasy suits. She made it SO clear he was the one but she was going to right through the whole layout of the show but he wanted her to choose him over all of it. Which I get, but he was putting a pressure on her in a way that was blaming her for fulfilling her role. As much as Greg pissed me off, he did have a valid initial reason for being upset and I can’t blame him for wanting to be chosen but homeboy sucks at communicating.

This episode is so triggering, I still can't shake the terrible feeling it left me with. The trouble with manipulative behaviour like Greg exhibited is that most people don't know how to identify it, including the people that are manipulating. Straight up, I have acted similarly in situations where I felt my emotional vulnerability was not acknowledged, so I can sympathize with Greg in that regard. However, it's never okay to manipulate/gaslight because someone doesn't respond the way that you want them to. I hope that this is a great learning experience for Greg to address his tendency to let his emotions send him into a manipulative tail spin, and for Katie to learn how to recognize when she is being gas lit. And I might add that maybe Katie could also learn how to recognize when someone is being emotionally vulnerable and give direct emotional feedback, Tayshia is the Queen when it comes to this, I learnt a lot from watching Tayshia using active listening and feedback with her men during vulnerable sharing.

I had to shut off Nick Viall episode. It was more triggering to watch him defend Greg that actually watch Greg. Worst part is Nick never would have had that take if Katie called in on Ask Nick. The only benefit of the doubt is that he has this weird projection and protects anyone with a bad edit similar that he identifies with. When they are being gaslighting, manipulative, and having a temper tantrum he needs someone to hold him accountable. He has this mean girl club with his staff. His producer is a Greg stan. I’m happy that Bekah brought up Nick Vials interpretation of what happened because I feel like people that have never experienced gaslighting and manipulation like this, may not fully understand what was so problematic and triggering about this. I also feel like it’s so nuanced, so you may look at it from Nicks perspective and think that Katie was giving surface level responses ( after he poured his heart out) and was just staring at him awkwardly. However, if you see it that way I think you’re looking at it from a surface level perspective. Katie’s human, she’s not always going to do and say the right things ( I think she was overwhelmed and processing it all). I can see how Greg misunderstood that exchange and was hurt. What I absolutely cannot see, is the way he handiest himself the next day. Let’s take the manipulation off the table. The simple fact that he’s willing to throw all of this away over their very first bump in the road???? He’s completely shut down, throwing a tantrum and has his mind made up that he’s going to leave because she didn’t give him what he needed in that moment!!!!! 🚩🚩🚩 That’s not love, that’s ego, pride and a sense of entitlement. It’s also a glimpse into the way Greg is at handling conflict in a relationship. No Thank You! I don’t care how hot you are 90’s Greg, you’re out! Greg needs to work on himself. Katie dodged a bullet. I can’t even begin to imagine how it ends but I’m praying she somehow doesn’t get back with him. I don’t see that happening but who knows.

Greg gave up sooo quickly which speaks volumes to his emotional immaturity, his toxicity and his lack of true love for Katie. He was saying so many things that were deeply hurtful to Katie and entirely unmerited. A whole bunch of red flags in this breakup down to not letting Katie even speak. I know it must feel terrible to be so vulnerable and open with someone and not hear it reciprocated but Katie kept giving him SO much reassurances the entire season in the best ways she knew how to remain respectful to the other guys as well....the silver lining to Greg not letting her speak was Katie could actually listen and observe Greg with all his flaws and red flags. I’m sure it’s only made her even more confident in hindsight about her decisions at the final rose. Also it was so triggering to see Greg go from loving someone SO much he was hurt it wasn’t reciprocated to saying “i deserve more than you and I’m not happy here.” Greg was so hurtful for absolutely no reason. Love means forgiveness too dude although I don’t even think Katie made a mistake.... I don’t think we’ve ever seen such manipulative shit like this on the show since Jake Pavelka. Katie is such a queen for dealing with that emotionally abuse on live tv PLUS with someone she least expected it to come from (the guy she thought she wanted to end up with!!!!!) can’t imagine how heartbreaking it was for her. But such an incredible moment of clarity too where the curtain was pulled down and she got to see who he really is. Wishing Katie all the happiness and love in the world 💕💕 P.S. I’m so disturbed by everyone in Bachelor Nation who keeps misreading / misconstruing Katie’s words when she said “I love looking at you.” Greg LITERALLY asked her “what” as in why are you looking at me that way. It was in response to his question. She wasn’t being insensitive or cold or aloof.

Ok agreed. But can we leave Katie’s fashion alone? I think she dressed herself because she wanted to feel comfortable. It’s been really nice to see a lead that is dressed how I would dress. Yes, the fashion is part of the glitz of it all. But it’s also nice to remind women that they can feel just as confident and beautiful in a plain t-shirt or a simple dress.

Ari reminds me of Zooey Deschanel. That’s all I will say about this episode of the podcast because I was livid last night and felt so sick to my stomach because of Greg’s behavior. It triggered all of the old feelings from my own experiences with gaslighting and manipulation. I don’t want to discuss it any further myself because I’m over that manchild and I’m glad he’s gone. I didn’t feel great about him from the beginning, and this solidified those feelings. Especially linking it to all of the stories a bunch of exes or mutual friends of his exes, or even friends in general, have shared.

What I appreciate about Blake and Katie is the realness. They have a great connection but they’re not in love yet, they can just see it heading that way. That’s so… normal?! It seems like their relationship is moving at a normal, healthy pace and not the starry-eyed accelerated pace the show usually causes. That makes me think that, should they end up together, it has real potential to last. Blake’s not saying I love you just to say it. Out of all the men I’ve seen on this show, ever, to me he’s like the most trustworthy and genuine. The fact that he showed up late and the dudes are still all kind and love him shows that too. Caila Quinn's tweets were also particularly concerning due to the amount of young girls out there who look up to the love she has with her husband and will BELIEVE her viewpoint - it is dangerous to be teaching young girls that this is a sign of love when really, all it tells us is that Caila Quinn has never survived or come out the other side of an emotionally abusive relationship ship to have a valid opinion on it.

Only the person that passed can fill it and that’s okay. And I learned that by taking it out with friends and other family. I hope that Greg gets to that point too.

People are acting like she spat in Greg’s face or something! Did she under-react to his proclamation of love, maybe, sure - but that does NOT justify the way that he acted in a response to that. And honestly I’m glad it happened, because Katie could have been in for a lifetime’s worth of gaslighting if that relationship hadn’t gone south the way it did. For those defending him, really think about why you are doing so; a person who truly loves someone would never talk to them and gaslight them the way that Greg did to Katie. We all need to remember that, because no one deserves that treatment - Ever, no questions asked.

I still think the bias is a bit off the hook… I dont like or dislike greg. I do like listening to the brods but everytime they speak about the greg fella its a bit much Cause for example in the past episode, what I saw, was a dude reacting with a range of defense machanisms due to lingering trauma from the death of his parent. Who felt a loss of control, and a need to regain it. Was what transpired ok? Or therefore justified? No at all. He clearly needs to be in therapy instead of in the bachelor. But the need beckah has to paint him as the king of manipulative monsters is beyond subjective. “We dont know he knew, didnt see her tell him, and didn’t see her tell his family. But he HAD TO KNOW WEEKS AGO AND DID THIS TO FUCK WITH HER.” Like… come on…. Its too much.
@bitchlasagna1
@bitchlasagna1 3 жыл бұрын
@@Shutupbradley okay but the thing is him being a manipulative person doesn’t have to do with whether he knew Katie didn’t want to say I love you or not, which is something Bekah acknowledged. Either way, the way he was speaking to Katie and the words he was choosing showed that he was in fact trying to manipulate her and then later gaslight her when it came time to discuss why he was acting off. They acknowledged his trauma, they acknowledged defense mechanisms but they also made clear that that doesn’t excuse people for their actions. Sure Greg may have acted like this because of something, but the only part that’s relevant is that Greg acted like this and it was a MASSIVE red flag, not to mention Katie herself has said that the conversation was actually a lot worse than what was shown on TV, and we know we’re missing clips of Greg literally yelling at Katie. Red flag red flag red flag.

Wow! I have never watched your podcast and I almost didin't... But after watching I needed to re-watch the episode for my first watch made me feel for Greg. I was enamored by him and after the re-watch I realized my own level of unhealed issues that led me to feel for him. I saw it in a whole different light. I clearly saw his manipulation and what he was displaying was not LOVE - very narsassistic behavior and I myself have fallen for very similar guys (one that looked almost exactly like him) but again unhealed daddy/guy issues that lead me to be blinded and accepting of UNACCEPTABLE behavior. I kept thinking he is just wounded and loves Katie so much and needs more from her so it was acceptable and understandable. Upon your guys take I realized that he knows exactly what he signed up for and if he really loved her he would have been understanding and confidant in what they have. Again grateful for this sharing because it shined a light on my own unhealed issues that had initial acceptance and compassion for Greg. Let's see how it all plays out...

He never wanted to marry Katie. And why can't he say her name? Why is it "this girl"? He calls her This Girl like 20 times. He's performative. He acted the whole season. But he forgot to cry this time. He cried when Connor left, but not when he broke up with "this girl" who he supposedly loved.

Listened to the podcast and I couldn’t agree more with what you all said. Greg demonstrated emotionally abuse behavior. It was extremely triggering.

ok i don’t really watch the bachelorette but from what ive heard/seen greg and katie’s argument this episode reminds me of the episode of gilmore girls where dean tells rory that he loves her and she didn’t know what to say and then he instantly gets mad and breaks up with her. and i’ve seen videos of people defending greg but growing up i was always told that any boy that treats you like dean treats rory that is emotionally abusive and to stay away. just my opinion and i’ve never been in an emotionally abusive relationship so i could be entirely wrong but it just made me think of that scene ❤️

Greg and Katie's argument definitely reminded me of Dean and Rory's situation, but Greg reacted 10x times worse than Dean

Watching their breakup I had a flashback to their 1st date. Greg sitting on the bucket and Katie crouched down beside them and they kiss. Then this episode, Greg sitting on a chair and Katie on her knees....him telling her that he deserves better. I just thought that was a weird coincidence

I've found that Katie's style and outfit choices are quite similar to how I dress, so I am feeling quite insecure over all these callouts XD

I’m SO excited. I was at first like heck yeah I was right about him, and then it quickly went to oh no Katie please get out of here. It worried me so much. Her on her knees begging him to reason with her and him getting up and leaving her there??? That was sooooo fucking cold

On a lighter note, I just wanna say...regardless of how it turns out, I'm way more invested in Blake and Katie's love story than I need to be. It's just so different and refreshing than anything I've seen before on this show. I saw the connection with Arie & Lauren and Tayshia and Zac (and the OGs Trista & Ryan ofc), but I've never seen any couple be as at ease and comfortable with each other as Blake and Katie appear to be. It's the way they both make each other safe to be themselves even when the cameras are on...And even though they had a bit of a Claire and Dale situation (stalking each other on social media before the show), they are both far more level-headed and even-keeled, not given to displays of tempestuous infatuation, which makes their connection more enjoyable to view. I see actual substance and depth between them, which is a credit to them both as individuals. Also, I've seen so many comments calling Blake gross, a "freak," or a creep just because he and Katie have such a strong sexual connection, but just like Bekah said, I don't think that sexual connection would be nearly that strong if the mental connection wasn't there. Katie's face lights up the entire time she is with him. There is never a moment where he makes her tense or uncomfortable. If you watch back their Hometown date, her smile literally NEVER leaves her face for a moment, even when she is meeting his family. I especially loved how, when they were playing hockey, that Blake was just focused on making sure she had fun and that it was a good experience for both of them instead of trying to dominate her with his skill, which is what he would have done if he really was the guy people shallowly think he is. I just love his whole attitude; he reminds so much of a good friend of mine's partner, always down for a good time, good vibes, not caring what anyone thinks about him but still just sharing a positive light with everyone in a way that isn't fake or contrived (all the things da girlz projected onto Gregory's puppy dog face...). He is the first male I've seen in this franchise I could actually envision fitting in with my own friend group. He's just damn cool and doesn't put on airs. If he and Katie are not currently together, I doubt there will be too much bad blood between them.
