Hi Dana, the RELs in this video are the old R218 and the T7i. I believe REL’s “subwoofer finder” on their website shows that the S/510 would be the best match for the KEF R7. In my opinion it is important to try to find the best match for bass “speed” between the speakers and subs. The S/510 and S/812 are both incredible subwoofers though so I’m confident that you’d be happy with either!

Nice channel. I have a pair of REL T5i’s for a 2-channel only system. Been very happy with them. I’m moving and will have a bigger room but need to keep the footprint small, around 15”. Thinking of upgrading the subs. Thinking about starting with a single KF92 or maybe a JL Audio f110, or a pair of T7x’s. You’ve had some of these. My system is pretty revealing and this will primarily be for music. Any thoughts?
@techjourney53833 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delayed response. Out of that list, I think I would go with a pair of T7x’s as I found the prior version to be an excellent match for LS50’s. Please just keep in mind that you will likely only get usable bass down to about 30hz - maybe a little lower if you place the subs in corners like REL recommends. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the feedback! I have mixed subs before with good results but it is much easier to get things to sound right when they are matched subs. REL’s are designed to become an extension of your main speakers, not just make “bass”. I’d recommend giving REL a call and talking it through with them but if budget is a concern perhaps you can start with one with a plan to add another in the future when budget permits. Good luck!

Hey, mate. I've owned a pair of KEF LS50'S before and absolutely loved them, however one thing I found due to the lack of bass was that they would dictate the type of music I listened to. I love all kinds of music from Sinatra to Strapping Young Lad but found myself listening to mostly singer-songwriter stuff and no rock simply because as I said they lack bass. Did you find that still an issue when you added a sub? I'm buying a house and wanting to add an entire new HIFI system so just weighing up my options. I still own a pair of B&W 605 s2 and owned other Bowers and Wilkins stuff but much prefer the KEF sound. Trying to find a speaker under 10k that can do it all is frustrating to say the least. Anyway, I'm ranting. Thanks for answering if you do.
@techjourney53832 жыл бұрын
Hi Josh, the beginning of my 2 channel “audiophile” journey started with KEF LS50’s and many different amp, preamp, dac and subwoofer combinations in two different homes and what I have come to understand for my own listening enjoyment is that LS50’s MUST be paired with just the right subwoofers for me to feel satisfied when listening to a wide range of music genres. For me, I’ve landed on a pair of REL T7i’s for my desktop setup and a pair of old infinity 8” ported subs for my bedroom setup. I’m currently evaluating other speaker and subwoofer combinations for the setup that you saw in the video, but with the various combinations that I’ve tried thus far I am even more convinced that a pair of high quality subwoofers that match the speed and scale of the main speakers need to be part of the equation in order for me to feel satisfied. Also, not only do the speakers and subs need to match each other well, but they also need to match to the room well. My LS50 setups do well in smaller rooms of my home but not as well in medium to larger rooms in my home because they don’t pressurize the room as well. Hope that helps in some way!

How does your dual REL T7i compare to the single KEF KC95?
@techjourney53833 жыл бұрын
I’m assuming you are asking about the KEF KF92? Best thing I can think of to convey my feelings with these is that the dual T7i’s are more like high quality speakers that play decently low bass and the KF92 is more like a “woofer” that does what it’s designed to do in the sense that it plays low bass notes. The KF92 gives you a ton of low output and I think T7i’s augment my speakers a bit better by filling in some detail in the midrange area. I prefer one setup sometimes and the other setup other times. I think I have found something new that blends the best qualities of both and will try to post a new video once I decide. Hope that helps!

If you are expecting perfection at 20Hz and below I doubt you will ever be satisfied. 20Hz has a very long wavelength. Good luck finding any subwoofer that can deal with that without having issues. It is not a problem of electronics as much as it is an issue of physics. I am not aware of any technical design that can overcome it, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. If there is one then it is probably very cost prohibitive for anyone who doesn't have the deepest of pockets.
