Hi Sean . I have a b&w pv1d matched to hegel h190 paired with b&W 706S2 . The sub adds subtle bass to the presentation without being dominant. I thought I got ripped off by buying this sub as I could have bought a svs sub. But now looking back I made the right decision . The opposing drivers of the sub cancel out any distortion so the bass is clear and fast. Works beautifully. The hegel amp is just pure muscle its so clean sounding . It's a beautiful match to my system. I use tidal to listen to music and use hegels dac. All I need is the amp speakers and sub. Do a review on the hegel. You will end up buying one. Trust me. The musical fidelity has nothing on the hegel. I am a hegel convert! The amp is designed and made in norway

Thanks for the review Sean! I’ve been loving my Apogee Stages for 28 years convinced that no sub could integrate seamlessly with the panels...I finally grew a pair and picked up the kc62 and wow! Yes perfect integration with no noticeable x-over anomalies. I run the sub at pretty low volume but the foundation and musicality are there. I listen to rock, punk, classical, and jazz and this thing shines on all of them. Really happy with purchase and I agree with all your observations in the review. Great job

It also seems sort of like it was designed specifically to pair well with the LS50 Wireless II to make for a super compact, wireless, sleek looking, full-range system. If I was putting together a system in a small living space and my budget was $4K, that combo's something I'd take a hard look at for sure.

Great review- honest and informative. I remember taking home the Carver Sunfire sub that was all the rage back in the early 2000s. Was fun for about a day to see the paint shake loose in my house, but ultimately ended up with a pair of Vandersteen subs. The long throw woofers are definitely amazing these days, but for two channel, I think I’d still go for a more traditional sub. But having said that, still itching to try this sub!

Hi Sean, I been waiting for this review. I truly appreciate the time and effort you put into this review, you are truly providing a public service for all of us. At some point I might just get this sub and I must admit my hands are itching to get one of this even if my room is 2.8m x 2.0 (9.18 x 6.5). Only thing which holds me back is the cost. £1500 is alot of money but it will pair well with KEF LS50 Wireless 2 I heard and read and the feedback is that it just gives another dimension to the overall sound. Once again sir, my true apprientiation for your hard work. 🙌🙏

I have it with the KEF LS50 Wireless 2 and it is awesome. The LS50w2 stops putting out the low bass when you hook up the sub and it makes the mid and high range sound even more awesome than the speakers do on their own (even though they are awesome without the sub).

I think it's quite important to point out when doing speaker review's that a speaker that sounds great in your room might not necessarily sound as good in another persons room. I myself have experienced this when listening to a set of speakers in 2 different rooms. I think we can all agree that the room plays a BIG factor in how a speaker sounds.

@sadge9697

@@robk5745 Here are my impressions that I posted in the comments of the review video: "So...I took delivery of these speakers late yesterday. I've probably only got about 10 hours or so on them, but I can see what Sean was so excited about. You don't want to stop listening! I'm going through endless playlists right now, and it's a beautiful day outside...I really need to get out! Before these I was listening to Tekton Impact Monitors, so I was really intrigued by Sean's comparison to the Double Impact. The Tektons are more neutral, and I'd agree that they are a little cleaner in the midrange, but these Model 5's are fun, fun, fun! Something about the way they're voiced makes everything I've tried so far very enjoyable to listen to. I love the mahogany finish, in part because it talks to the reddish wood trim and floor in my listening room, and the standard grills look great to me. I've found the middle setting on the "acoustic balance switch" to work best for me on most music. The build quality on these is fantastic, including the stands. The binding posts are beautiful and look to be high quality. I don't really know how to explain the sound of these. This is definitely a toe tapping and head bobbing speaker. I've caught myself doing that a lot, and even jumping up to dance once in awhile. I can't remember the last time I did that with my Tektons. Don't get me wrong, the Impact Monitors are great and I'm keeping them for now, but I'm really enjoying the KLH's. Many thanks to Sean for this review. I've found that my taste in speakers tend to align with his, and he has a real gift for explaining the sound of a speaker, at least for me. Forgot to mention, I'm driving these with a VTV Purifi-based power amp and a Pro-Ject Pre-Box S2 DAC/Preamp."

Thanks for putting out this definitive, mic drop level review. I've had it for weeks now and it essentially replaced 2 T5is, and 2 SB1000s. You nailed it. I have a cheap 10" polk audio speaker that I am happy with. So I want an upgrade but I was always told larger driver the lower the bass. With that being said based on my research and speaking to kef they belive this is better low range and quality then there 12" sub BUT its from two 6.5" drivers which made me skeptical about it. @@tteeydoc1 I don’t …. I try to get through my partner’s wish for Sonus Faber Aida speakers in a small flat, first of all I can’t afford the speakers my partner wants and second, they are even too large for my taste 🤣 I try to level these things out by aquiring 4 subwoofers, no protest there 😎

It makes sense why the KC62 wouldn't gain much from isolating it from the floor. The point of the opposing drivers it to remove cabinet resonance that will carry through anything it touches.

It was a good review but the Rel T/7i was released 6 years ago and is discontinued and was replaced by the T/7x a bit over a week ago and is supposed to have improved sound quality over the outgoing version.

Regarding KC62 v the Rel. What about if one is going to be listening to music(only) with full range speakers and a 40Hz sub setting. What would you recommend as the best option? Everyone so far recommends the Kef in this scenario.

Do you have experience with a distributed bass system like Dr. Geddes or AK Swarm? if I understand theory correctly you can mix subs to achieve a better outcome because you are managing the room dynamics better....would one kef or rel with two lesser subs = a better sound than, say 2 kef? (I'm trying to figure out a sub system to go with raidho speakers)
@ZeroFidelity
@ZeroFidelity 3 жыл бұрын
Only at shows. Particularly the AK Swarm. It's a nice concept that works out insanely well when setup the right way. As for one KEF and a couple lesser subs, its something that could work. However, at this point you're just mixing and matching with completely different products and hoping that it works out. The Swarm is precisely engineered to work hand-in-hand with each low frequency device in the system, which is partly why it works so well. So I think if you're wanting to go this route and you want to do it right, you'll likely have to go with whats proven to work.

@@ZeroFidelity Thanks...yea I'm working my way through exploring this and am afraid that the AK is too many bigger boxes for the WAF...So I at least want to figure out the smallest form factor that might get the job done and try some stuff out...thanks Sean

This is not quite an acoustic suspension design but it's close. One of the first if not the first to use two opposing in phase subwoofers was Teledyne Acoustic Research model AR9 which used two 12 inch side firing acoustic suspension woofers per channel. Placement is critical. Based on their recommendations the optimal placement is sideways on the floor against the wall at least 2 feet from a side wall. Two of these units is clearly preferable to one. If you try it let me know what you think.

I’ll stick to my jtr captivator4000ulf lp. Zf, review some jtr subwoofers or speakers. Please do the sub.. nice review. Pretty insane that thing can do 11hz. The captivating is tuned to 10hz and can easily go down to like 5hz. I think it would be a fun review lol. To say the least.z but that little sub seems like a great buy and I think I will get one possibly one day.

Great review like always, thorough and detailed and to the point. PERFECT! feel like i know what these are without hearing them. Literally your Bro3 review was so spot on that what i heard was the same thing described in your review. I think based on what I've heard here I'd prefer Rel, but I'm sure these are awesome. Quick off-topic question if I may: I'm moving into a new place and will probably only be able to listen at moderate/low levels and closer to my speakers - so would you suggest the KLH Model5 or the Polk R500s for that kind of listening? Or should I save up and buy some Harbeths lol Thanks again for the great informative content!
@ZeroFidelity
@ZeroFidelity 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Matthew. Honestly - I'd consider saving up for some Harbeths if you know you'll be listening at low volumes on a regular basis. Particularly Compact 7 Anniversaries or a used set of Monitor 30's. I *really* like both the KLH Model 5 and the Polk R500's, but both of those products need just a bit of volume to 'come alive'.

Does the kef do the same at the rel can you use the high level and low level output at the same time. I have an av amp and a stereo amp running my front speakers. If it does I would consider it thx.
