So humbling, right?! Over the last decade, I've seen more and more non-Catholics turn up at SSPX Latin Mass centres...and keep coming back, and get baptised. I often wonder if I would have the same courage if I was not brought up in the faith, and with the Mass of All Time.

I found Austin about a few months ago. One thing that I like about him as well as any Protestant like him is his openness to a different view without animosity and hate. He is very well articulated and open to the Catholic view without being brash about it. God bless and awesome video.

I really feel it on my heart to confess my pride fuelled arrogance I had toward Catholics. Lately I've been watching a lot of Eastern Orthodoxy content and have basically written off Catholics as the dregs of Christianity. I am wrong, and have sinned against God & His people with my discriminatory perspectives. Thank you so much for telling it how it is, just people who love God, love His people, and love to worship Him how you all believe He loves to be worshipped. Spirit & truth, as our Lord said, that's what matters. So I apologise sincerely, and thank you for sharing your lives & experiences, it's truly a humbling blessing.

As a Catholic, I'll tell you that your words are beautiful. That takes humility to say and Jesus LOVES the humble. Have you listened to Fulton Sheen? Look him up. Catholics who live or grow up in the south know what all the misconceptions about Catholicism are. I was 11 the first time I was told by a Protestant that I was not a Christian. That made me very aware for the first time that there were differences in beliefs in Christianity. Since then I’ve heard them all.
@bretwein3793

That always puzzled me to say the least. Although the “Protestants” that I encountered were Anglicans, I actually only heard the “not Christian” by these evangelical/pentecostal sects. I asked them what the believed that was different and the told me it was solo scriptura & solo fide. I proceeded to ask them the following questions. 1. Why are you using Latin terms? 2. Why was there no Bible for irate 400 years? 3. Do Christianity only start with protestant movements?

I've been Catholic since 1986-1987. I started learning Latin a couple years ago, and still have some to go. It's so beautiful and powerful. I think that Latin and the Extraordinary Form should be back everywhere. I think Catholic Churches under 50 years old should ALL be redone artistically. I really dislike the plain architecture and plain walls--and of COURSE the Tabernacle's being somewhere ELSE than front and center is a failure. Our Associate Pastor, who was trained in the EF (he was ordained only 5 years ago), was assigned to a Parish on the other side of the Diocese as his first pastorate. And over there is a SPECTACULAR traditional Church building. What a match!

I’m a cradle Catholic and have taken my religion for granted. I have gone to youth groups and worships from other religions with my friends because they were ‘fun.’ We would jump and sing and have free coffee and other stuff. Cool haircuts and we could wear anything. I had a blast but didn’t really feel God in any of those settings. Now that I’m older (28) I’ve gone back to the Catholic Church and I love dressing up and paying my respects to God the only way he deserves. I enjoy how quiet the church is and how absolutely close to God I feel. I feel a peace that I can’t describe.

Most Catholics love early morning mass. In many parishes I've been to, any mass between 5am and 9am is always full. If we miss that, we usually go for the evening mass. Most of us go to 10am or midday options only on special occasions. At a young age, I attended children's mass (7:30am). Parishes in safe communities have children's mass.

It's true. I guess we got used to illiteracy back in the days but now that literacy is high, it is definitely time for the laity to get hooked up with the Bible and CCC and other books on faith themselves. ^^ Careful not to go on our own interpretation though coz it wouldn't be "universal" or "Katolikos" truth anymore. It would be relativism.

I’m so glad you had your interviews with Austin. I’d seen his video a few months ago about attending the Catholic Bible study. A few weeks later I saw his video stating he was attending a Catholic Mass. When I saw he was going to attend a Tridentine Mass, I had to laugh. All I could think was “there’s nothing like diving into the deep end of the pool”. I’m so glad he went back and was met by people who were willing to help him understand what was happening. And God bless his lovely, open heart for being willing to attend ANOTHER Mass, both a high Mass and a Novus Ordo. I’m so glad you’re talking to him. I think we Catholics get so excited about a family member possibly coming home that we set the table for the feast and run out to meet them on the road without thinking about how different, or strange or unfamiliar it may seem. Or how there are things we absolutely take for granted that would seem off, weird, morbid or bizarre to those coming from a different perspective. I hope you continue your conversations with Austin, either publicly or privately. What a beautiful, sweet soul he has. I think you are a fantastic mentor with an excellent perspective. And I 💯 feel the same about the “enthusiasm” on both sides of the Tridentine versus Novus Ordo groups. I’m a Novus Ordo raised Catholic, but just on the very edge of all the changes. The year I made my First Communion was the year the ACB won their argument to receive the Eucharist in the hands, 1977. I was never comfortable with that, my parents and siblings having been raised to receive on the tongue and that is still how I receive. I grew up with the 70s church though. The Glory and Praise song books, etc. It was only in my 40s that I started looking at the Tridentine Mass. I still go back and forth between my parish and the FSSP parish a few cities away. But I do feel at home now with the Tridentine Mass. Thank you for having this conversation, thank you for the ministry work that you do and God bless you and your family.

I am a convert to Catholic from a Protestant background. Listening to this talk I have to say I am impressed by evangelicals of all denominations. I have to say starting to go to Mass with my wife 23 years ago who was always Catholic and my own need for the Rosary helped my faith. We had many vacations in Italy, France and Europe and seeing and l visiting many of the pilgimages sites really helped my faith. I found so many prayers answered through the Saints intercessions and Rosary that the Catholic Faith made perfect sense to me,. I have later learnt to like the Catholic Charismatic but I have also learned to appreciate the Protestant Charismatic. I am firmly Catholic and now confirmed. I like daily Mass, daily bible reading, daily Rosary and daily Adoration of the Blessed Sacrement. This young man's talk is generous and open minded. My own study of the Catholic faith truly gave me great trust in its teaching because it is so consistent over all periods of history.

Hi Keith, Hi Austin, best greetings from Germany. I love you both for your sincere devotion to God and Jesus in particular. I have been a cradle catholic for all of my live. Found back to my faith in the 80ies. Now, we are facing fascinating times despite all the turmoil in the world. The Holy Spirit really is working on us. I have wondered often why the Holy Spirit had allowed Schisma and Reformation. So much misunderstanding and violence during the past centuries - for what? We Germans have produced one of the main reformers and initiators to protestantism. So somehow we feel obliged to find a way back to reconciliation. But, nothing will work without the fire of the Holy Spirit. On this occasion it comes to my mind that we should see us in a kind of competition : Run, that you shall win the prize. We are called to be the best in order to win the laurels. But it is like the Olymic idea. Taking part, being amoung the competitors, is the main goal, get your arse moved. Feel challenged to win the trophy! The Holy Spirit allowed the looping via protestancism in order to be challenged! I love you protestants coming home to the body of Jesus Christ. You can enrich us cradle catholics so much with your deep love to scripture and personal relation to the person of Jesus Christ whom we can embrace as our brother in his human nature, but fall down on our knees for his godly nature at the same time! Jesus keeps his promise . Hell will not conquer his church.

Monica spoke to the Bishop - "I talk to my son about God but he won't come round to belief" The bishop said "why not talk to God about your son?" So now we can read the words of St Augustine and he and his mother are both Saints.

@@emtedee985 yes exactly. The Lord told Scott to stop bugging his wife and start praying, only then did she gradually have a change of heart. God is love, not a theology professor. If you want to convert anyone pray for them and love them in a way that reveals Christ. Of course words can persuade and reveal the Truth but it is usually a combination of factors. John Henry Newman didn't convert until he encountered the personal holiness of individual Catholics. He was looking for the 4 Signs of the Church. He saw One, Catholic and Apostolic but he didn't believe we were the true Church until encountering holiness.

We are all on a journey when it comes to our Christianity either within or outside of the Church. As a cradle Catholic born 1960 it is only within the last 10 years I have come to appreciate the faith and rather than be scared by confession to find it crucial to salvation to believe deeply in the Eucharistic presence and so much more like praying the daily rosary. The TLM has definitely been a great help to me having only found it late in life. God bless to you both.

I am a cradle catholic born in the 1950's and only over the last few years have I discovered our history: the real history of our faith! I have a relationship with Jesus: a wonderful one and I'd love everyone to have that. I pray with a group of my christian brothers and sisters and I am the only catholic: that upsets me. We pray for unity: a unity that God wants not what we want. I love you both and thank you for your videos/discussions. God bless you both.

I know of some Catholics who are so focused on proving that Catholicism is the One True Church. I DO believe that. BUT in this day and age that there are so many Atheists and there is so much evil in the world... I choose love; because God is love. I just love them and rejoice when I realize that someone is Christian (believes and worships Christ Jesus) and trying to be a good person; way better than the alternative! No urgency to Convert them...

You two are amazing! Love love love this discussion. Austin should definitely come back. I maintain this, converts make some of the best Catholics. I spent 10 years as an evangelical and it was great. Everything they say is true. I loved the sermons and passion. We Catholics can definitely learn from converts like Keith, and protestants like Austin, to enrich our faith. I would love for the body of Christ to be unified!

EXCELLENT video, so helpful as an example of respectful and loving Protestant/Catholic dialogue! Thank you @Keith Nester for having Austin from @Gospel Simplicity on your show! Austin, I was so blessed by your transparency and honestly sharing how you've wrestled with Catholic faith, but with humility and an open mind (I've been on a similar journey, coming from an evangelical background). I was SO excited when you mentioned going to St. John Cantius in Chicago-- I visited there for the first time about a month ago (also my first Latin mass), and had the same experience with being awed by the beauty of that church. Now I want to go back! :) Keep up the good work my brothers in Christ!

Thank you very much Keith, for this wonderful and amicable/ respectful interview. I am definitely praying for Austin. I saw a couple of his other videos before and thanks to him KZfaq recommended Daily Mass from John Cantius for me. We don't have Mass available to us now in my country because we are on lock down and only 10 persons are allowed to congregate for the filming and live streaming of religious services. I would like to recommend some of Scott Han's books The Lamb's Supper, Hail Holy Queen or any other might be interesting. Or even listening to his lectures. There is also the entire series on the Catechism of the Catholic Church on KZfaq. I tend to listen during my commute everyday.

Oh my goodness how did I miss this video?! I LOVED it! I REALLY enjoy Austin’s channel; he is so gentle and loving and willing to meet people where they and their beliefs are at any point in time. I understand Austin’s beliefs regarding Catholics; I myself left Catholicism because I thought it was watered down, didn’t care about the Bible and were not serious about the faith. Little did I know I would come full circle and find myself firmly in Catholicism and have NEVER felt more full of faith and the spirit. I’m glad this is a safe place where people can actually discuss faith, not just talk and rebuttal. Great video!

I enjoy videos like this because my sister is Evangelical and we have these types of open minded discussions. She worked for a big city mega church for over 25 years and actually kept people in the Catholic faith that came to the activates she lead. She even helped them start lay ministry's of their own for Catholics. This is because through the years she realized how much Catholicism actually shaped her faith, and it wasn't what she was told it was by those who lured her away. She will likely never come back to the Church, but she now appreciates her Catholic upbringing and works to make better protestants through the values instilled in her from that experience.

I went to a Latin Mass that had an older couple who had an adult son who was mentally disabled he'd bring his little army men and picture books depicting Jesus and Mary, as well as their service dog. The second time they came, one of the older retired priests approached them and I could see him pointing at the dog, the wife started crying. At communion time, he came out of the sacristy, went to their pew, and held the dog's leash so they could go to the altar rail as a family. The wife after mass told me and a small group that Fr. told her the family needed to go up together, even if the son only got blessed. Father had seen the previous week the dog and that one parent stayed with the boy and dog then the other went to communion after the other returned from communion. After that he had trusted assigned volunteers to hold the dog while the family approached the altar rail, so if it was not him offering the Mass, he could at least give the family communion and bless the son. After Mass each Sunday the dog would seek out the priest for a pat on the head and scratch on the bottom
