i just bought their 12,000 grit belt and have no trouble getting a mirror polish. they also make belts specifically designed to take stropping compound if you have the blade grinder attachment.
@rogerbivins91444 жыл бұрын
Just use a bar of quality green chromium compound. Apply it against the belt while it's running. No way to over apply, it will far Outlast that paste stuff and no sloppy mess slinging off or on fingers.

Thank so for the advice. I have a Ken onion model and was very impressed with its performance. But I was looking for that next level of sharpness. Looks like this will be it.

For polish, I use Blue Magic's metal polish cream. You can get it from Wal-Mart for around $6-$8. It does have ammonia in it so don't try to sniff it but the ammonia goes away in a very short amount of time.

great tip! just an fyi, minimum anealing temperature for most steels is around 1400 F. Stuff can start happening around 300 with martensitic steels but I think you would be hard pressed to heat the blade up over 200. I could always be wrong but this has been my experience.

So would you use this after a 3"x12" stropping belt or instead of? Thank you for the tip! Looking forward to trying it.

practice what you're going to say before you film it, or at least before post it. And at a minimum, DO THE HACK ON CAMERA!

Great and useful idea. I just bought my WSKTS-KO unit and I have Flitz. I'll use this hack to finish all of my blades. Thanks.

Glad to help...make sure to use a worn-out belt
@l4gogeta006 жыл бұрын
Cool
@10740264 жыл бұрын
Aragon Analytics As I correctly understand your video you use worn-out belt to put the Flitz on them instead of using leather belt made for WSKTS-KO. Do you use leather belts with it for polishing?
@budburr666 жыл бұрын
So plug the damned thing in and show us the Flitz work.

Cool tip thanks! Would automotive rubbing compound work?
@aragonanalytics32877 жыл бұрын
Blakehx ...I would imagine that any fine polish that is listed as non-abrasive should work
@tbrew82223 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Also in the automotive related compatibles, lapping compound/ valve grinding paste comes in various grit/ polish mixes for a bit more cut and less polish and buffing compounds for a finishing polish, work quite well. What it really comes down to, is using a few things, and noticing their level of cut/ polish properties from experience, and using them in the right step of process, and the methods that it works (or not) for you. some compounds supposedly have the same cut size, but dont give equal results to all users and methods. Try new things and make note of what seems to work well. Thats how we find more shortcuts, "hacks" and better alternatives. Ive even found many kinds of mud (silty or fine clay) can work pretty well on a flat surface if you literally have nothing but a knife.

Using jewellers rouge sticks is much cleaner.
@IIISWILIII4 жыл бұрын
just load up the flitz on a small sponge and touch the belt running on low. or get a stick of polish
@rodeosound4 жыл бұрын
There has got to be a certain amount of "touch" to it because no matter how hard I try I just cant get that final "hair pop" edge

I use MAAS, Hagerty and Mothers Mag & Aluminum polish on worn out 6000 grit belts as I simply have these available. Yes, they work for me. Do I understand correctly that you crank the speed way up but pull the knife through much slower than when sharpening? I wasn't sure if you meant turn the speed down to an eighth or quarter of its max or if you meant to keep it "in the elevens" and pull the blade very slowly. Thanks for the video.
@aragonanalytics32877 жыл бұрын
Joe P ....first, thanks for the view and comment. Yes, I do crank up the speed and draw the blade slowly. It works especially well on harder steels like S90V.

UH... OMG UH... OMG UH... OMG UH... PULLING UH... MY UH... UH... HAIR OUT!!! UH... REALLY? UH... 9 freaking minutes to UH... explain how to uh... polish uh... the uh... edge uh... using uh... Flitz? Sorry to be harsh and blunt dude, but I was playing the video at double speed and still was almost unbearable. Couldn't stand it, I had to torture myself a 2nd time all the way through to count all the uhs and ums. ONLY 102 ums and uhs. Did you listen to this before you posted? Sorry, that was probably a bit too harsh, but the point is, review the video before posting. Make the video about what you titled it or change the title to fit what the video turned out to be. Be concise, brief, straight to the point. It'll make your content more enjoyable and relevant. Justin Brown at Primal Video has some great content on how to make your best video. You might check him out.
