If my child smeared poop all over himself and the walls i would hose him down in the yard too
@kenetrice

Yea, that is actually pretty common. One time my older brother tickled my little brother and my little brother pooped all over himself. I remember my mom took my little brother out back and hosed him and his underwear and pants out. I mean it's not like you are using a fire-hose that has really high pressure and hurts. It is a basic, average water hose. It is easier to spray the poop off outside than to get a bunch of shit in your shower and/or washer. She wasn't hosing him off out there as punishment but more so to make the least mess as possible. He didn't care at all. lol

That is so true!! But people like to judge without knowing how someone will react to a anxiety attack. When my dad was dying from cancer, I was grabbing his hand and as soon as he passed I burst laughing so hard that some of the family looked at my as if I was crazy AND I do loved my dad so much, we had a very strong and special relationship, weird one, like we will fight all the time but at the same time we could almost knew what the other was thinking, I know he would die for me and I for him anytime. Since I can remember I have had the same reaction to pain or grief.

True... I get uncomfortable in a lot of situations. I either go into shock, or freeze up. I get fidgety, I sometimes laugh when there is clearly nothing to laugh about. I also either don't cry at all, or I cry too much and I hate crying in front of other's. If I was ever interviewed with millions of people watching it; they'd probably think I'm guilty just because I'd be so awkward!

I took a first aid course and the instructor was very clear that laughing was a stress response. It's only officially been recognized in the last few years. She was in hospital for a leg fracture and because she was laughing from shock the doctors though she was making light of her injury. Because of that they didn't treat her properly until months later and now she has a limp for life because of the delayed treatment.

Sippy cup with seasoning can taste like broth or soup. Driving him to the clinic would probably be faster than an ambulance. Especially since the dispatch asks so many questions first. My parents were great parents, but for some reason my kid brain decided to wake up every night and go and sneak sips of their leftover Dr Pepper from the trash can…which led to minor health issues, confusion on my diagnosis and finally my confession which is how we found out I’m allergic to caramel food coloring. 🤷🏻‍♀️ kids are weird. My parents probably looked like liars to the doctors though, “she *never* drinks soda”. Me riffling through the trash like a raccoon in the night to steal sips of flat soda: 👀 Point is, sometimes parents look guilty but it’s just an accident or the kid. I think that’s this case. When the previous foster mom had Andrew he was younger and relied on her to eat. Now his new foster mom is dealing with an older toddler that is more mobile and knows what food is. After raising 4 boys they will eat just about anything! No judgement here! Also, having special needs/circumstances to deal with, it is exhausting. Trust me from first hand experience.

Here's my genuine opinion. I had pica when I was younger. I was constantly hungry and I LOVED salt. I also had ADHD so my parents struggled to keep my calm with my food addiction. My mom would legit give me hot water with bulletin cubes mixed with it just to keep my under control. My dad would give me yogurts. Why? Because thats all they could think of because doctors don't know everything. That's exactly what this mother did. The fact that people are making it seem strange that she showered him down with a hose and burned the bed sheets is kinda crazy to me. Did you expect her to wash his shit filled ass in the bathroom where the other kids bathe in? Did you expect her to keep the shit stained sheets? That's the fastest way to get e-coli. She did what she thought was necessary and she at least tried unlike most people in her situation. Edit: OK so a lot of you have been giving me criticism about the bedsheets. I just want to make something clear. I don't think burning the sheets was the most logical solution. If my child shat all over my bed, burning the sheets won't be my first solution. But that's just me. Y'all gotta remember that people don't think the same way as you. People make irrational decisions.

I’ve sprayed my kids off with a hose in the yard a million times. Especially when they would poop on themselves while potty training and just starting to wear undies. My son had a horrible problem with that. So that’s not weird at all. Unless it’s cold outside. Then it’s def messed up. But It just sounds like this couple took on way to many kids then they could handle. Those church people love doing that stuff for some reason.

Oh, we had a similar case in Germany some years ago. It was a little girl though :( She put salt into her pudding, and the stepmother caught her. Thinking it was sugar, she took this as an opportunity to teach the kid that you don’t mess with food and made her eat it. A few hours later the girl died in the hospital. The trial was very interesting, because at first they tried to make it a murder case, and then they kinda went down every possible paragraph and endet up with a conviction for dangerous bodily harm I think. It was very emotional, the mother screamed when they announced the penalty. The case, to this day, is used a lot in law schools because it’s so hard to make out whether she did it on purpose, or could’ve prevented it. It wasn’t common knowledge back then that salt poisoning can be deadly.

Poor little guy :( This is so sad, my husband was starved as a child, before foster care and remembers eating gum off the sidewalk :/ As someone who has also taken in family members children, via the state, and had 2 very challenging Grandchildren with behavioral problems; they really should've put him in a situation where he had more one-on-one care. It is not the child's decision, or fault, that he is damaged! Why abuse him more, after all he has been through? Garden hose bathing, wooden bed sleeping, and feeding him obviously not normal amounts of food, even if he has an obvious eating disorder??? What about counseling? Why not tell the state you're in over your head, and need a specialized home counselor, or need him to go to a more specialized situation?? NO sympathy here - It is up the adults, to know when it has become too much!! We had 5 kids total at one point, with our 3 children, and the 2 Grandkids who's parents lost their rights - and had some tough choices to make at one point. There is an element of shame, in realizing that you're in over your head, and they obviously were. Sorry, not sorry. The foster parents were in the wrong!!! Worried about what their "church family", and friends would think. So so so sad!!! They clearly committed child abuse, in MANY ways. I'm appalled :(

He threw them in the grill, easy to contain the fire cuz you can close the lid and walk away which makes since as to why they weren't completely burned up too. 1. Your average joe is not going to realize that you can OD on table salt. It sounds like she gave him the watered down seasoning in the sippy cup to try to satiate him. Sounds weird but I used to drink maple syrup out of the bottle when no one was looking as a kid so... 🤷‍♀️ Kids do and eat nasty shit. 2. I have definitely been hosed down outside after getting covered in dirt/muck/whatever. 3. They probably had him sleep on the bed frame instead of the couch or another bed in case he decided to smear poop on that too. Laying on a "hard bed frame" sounds harsh but he still had blankets and pillows, it's no different than camping. 4. Now this ropes back into point #1; I don't think they knew he was dying! The cop is acting like they knew he was dying. They DID take him to the ER, some people live closer to the hospital than to an ambulance station (where I live, it would be faster for me to drive to the ER than to wait for an ambulance.) 5. BAM! The hospital staff were continuing to administer sodium through an IV for an hour and a half before realizing he had hypernatremia.

@@polardirt4835 exactly that's the thing. You can be as knowledgeable as possible about medicine and medical conditions and sicknesses. but a lot of sicknesses have the same symptoms. Like food poisoning being mistaken for a stomach bug, or a virus being mistaking as the flu. You can't blame her for thinking originally that he had made himself sick from his tantrum or that he had come down with a stomach flu as those would have been explainable symptoms and the last thing you think of being wrong is some type of poisoning. An average doctor would have confused his salt poisoning for the same thing. Just like how lead poisoning is often mistook as some other issue before tests are done. All the officers involve or the jury can't just go off on her and accuse her for something she didn't catch fast enough/realize and for an honest mistake. It wasn't her fault. And it's not her fault for not looking at what she was taking away from him when he had got into the cabinet as she was likely too busy scolding him. And for the police officers to use that as an excuse for "she killed him"? that's just poor work and premade assumptions and accusations on their side. In the clips you can see how they're pressuring her into saying she did it, how accusing they are. That's an officer whos decided she. A still in shock mother who couldn't even think right was guilty before getting the full story or caring to. the jury did the same thing and arrested her due to their accusations without looking at the bigger picture and had allowed the poor boys death to cloud their minds without even trying to look at it from her side. This whole case was handled poorly, and if I were her I would have sued them for the years they took and for the false accusations they threw (sorry for writing so much oof)

It sounds super outlandish to someone who doesn’t understand but it foster care is a hellish experience and I know other kids who have had maybe even worse experience then Andrew and may he Rest In Peace.

"Why didn't it occur to you to call 911? Why would you just watch your child die?" It seriously sounds like they were deliberately making her out to be a murderer when the fact of the matter is, people aren't all that rational in emergencies. And it does make sense to rush him *to* the emergency room instead of calling 911 if they had an emergency room very close by; it can sometimes take first responders a while to get there, and if that were the case and he still died, I'd be willing to bet that the question would *then* be, "Why did you call 911 instead of taking him straight to the emergency room, wouldn't that have been faster?" Also, it doesn't really strike me as weird to put seasoning in water to sate his cravings. It's essentially like making broth with bouillon. Like she said, he could have eaten a ton of salt before she'd caught him in the pantry. I doubt three small servings of creole seasoning diluted with soup and water would be enough to kill a child. And I also doubt they made him sleep directly on the wooden bedframe, they likely put plenty of blankets and pillows on it to cushion it, and it was only for one night. Making your kids eat something spicy as punishment, that's basically the equivalent of washing their mouths out with soap. In kindergarten I had a friend whose dad would put chili powder on her thumbs to keep her from sucking them, but she actually liked the taste so it was a moot point. "Key evidence was missing." *All* of the evidence was missing! The entire conviction was based on opinions and false observations that caused people to jump to conclusions. I'm glad that she was finally released and compensated, but it's ridiculous that she was convicted in the first place.

That poor little boy 💔 What a tragic life he lived. I'm so sorry he suffered so much and wasn't able to be connected with people who truly understood him.

Yes, the mattress and sheets were weird, but growing up neither my brother or I had behavioural issues, but in my early teens I was having multiple severe panic attacks a day, and there were thing my mother did that weren't the best action (like yelling at me, forcing me to shower etc,) but in hindsight I can truly see she just got overwhelmed and didn't know what else to do. I can completely see how in the heat of the moment they could go 'just burn the sheets' or, just go sleep on the bare bed we can't handle sorting anything out. Same with the not calling an ambulance, when my brother was a toddler he tripped In the yard and split his head open, my mum panicked and drove him to the hospital because in the moment She had to handle it, it didn't even cross her mind to call an ambulance she just knew he needed the hospital so took him. Let alone if they were financially struggling and in a country where ambulances cost thousands, it may not have felt like an option even if she did think about it.

She had no reason for killing Andrew. The adoption wasn't finalized, they could've just pulled out if they felt like he was too much to handle.

@bruh People definitely have reasons to murder, you may not agree with their reasons, that does not mean they don't exist and understanding these motives can be very helpful to understand a case.

@bruh she didn’t have a reason to kill him either y’all just want someone to be guilty when the sad truth is that he poisoned himself. Like OP said if he was that much of an issue they could have pulled out of the adoption. He possible had an eating disorder that made him salt poison himself and that’s that. She’s innocent and that’s why she’s free now.

The guy saying "you watch your child die, and you don't do anything?!" That's wrong, she DID do something. She put him in the car right away and took him down to the ER. I could see her thinking she could get him to the hospital faster by just doing it herself instead of waiting for the ambulance. I think its very possible, knowing his severe eating habits, that he ate salt out of the container in the cabinet while mom was asleep. It was foolish for her to not find out what exactly he ate, but it sounds like he got into every little thing constantly and it would be hard to keep up, who knows if he would even tell the truth. The seasoning water IS strange, but I can see what someone below me said about how maybe she thought it would taste similar to the soup without having to be another bowl of soup.

I hate the “ why did you start driving instead of calling 911” excuse again and again. Sometimes driving might be quicker? Especially for more rural parts, I’ve seen this a lot in cases.
