I remember this case very well. In one of the initial media interviews, she said she “looked under all the beds…” searching for Hayleigh. Uhhh-mattresses in the floor. There were no “beds.”

Tbh some of the stuff they mentioned about her: shes a kid. Shes a literal child. Ronald shouldve never been with a kid, and she shouldve never been put in the position of being a mother while she was still an irresponsible child. This doesnt excuse her, but all Im seeing is a kid who got groomed & took on too much & the worst happened. Ronald is in part to blame.

On that 911 call, misty didn’t sound concerned, she sounded scared, like a “my boyfriend is losing his shit, I did something with his daughter and now I have to cover my tracks” type of scared. Her dad sounds like how I would sound honestly. Someone does something to my child and it’s game over for them 🤷🏼‍♀️ what an awful story. I hope they find her and can put her to rest.

All these years later - one of those cases that sticks with me. I still feel like dad didn’t know initially what happened. Not sure if he found out some things and kept it quiet. I’m positive Misty was responsible in some way.

It’s so sad they haven’t found her yet. Haleigh’s cousin Lonzie Barton also went missing in a really similar way-in the middle of the night. But he was tragically found dead.

This is my home tone. This story hunts our town. Every year they show it on the news. This little girl was so sweet and loved by everyone she come in contact to. My heart still brakes for her grandma. I hope before I die I see the day she is found and her grandma gets to rest.

So they think a 5 year old woke up, went to the back door, unlocked the deadbolt that was high up, went outside grabbed a cinder block, put it in front of the door, and left. ??? A little girl who was scared of the dark and strangers just wondered off?!? Wondered to where?? There is no way that happened. It shouldn’t have even been considered, considering she was 5 years old. Even if Misty didn’t unalive her or something, she was definitely involved. Also, Misty kept changing her story. 🤨

Having watched more than one niece and nephew when they were younger or overnight, I too have chosen to not use the closest bathroom so as not to disturb them. It's not that weird at least to me. Doesn't mean it can't mean more in situations like this, but again, when you don't want to wake the kids, using a bathroom even slightly further away is normal.

Ronald is clearly on drugs. Everytime they show his face he looks messed up, and not because of sadness or grief. He's already questionable for dating someone that should still be in high school. And then he doesn't even know his child's date of birth or what she was wearing before she went to bed?

I found it weird that when they were asked why they decided to get married, the answer was “it’s what she would have wanted”. Whenever parents talk about their child as if they’re dead before even knowing what happened, it throws up red flags for me.

So she couldn’t be with her mother because of her drug use but it was ok to be with her ‘father’ and his girlfriend who were both clearly on drugs too?!🤔 This was never going to end well for those kids.

I remember following this case. I was always convinced the girlfriend did it because she didn't want to be a mom and felt Haleigh was just in the way. Or that she felt Haleigh's condition was too much for her and that the son was easier to take care of. It's awful.

Misty was 17 and sadly enough, if she had just confessed to it being an accident and made a deal, so they could locate her body...she probably would’ve gotten less time than she did for the drugs.

Maybe Misty actually did leave the kids alone that night because 17 year olds on drugs do stupid things. Maybe she left the door unlocked to get back in and Haliegh woke up before she got back. Maybe she thought Misty was outside having a smoke. If she walked out the door to look for Misty or her dad in the middle of the night, so many things could've happened. She could've wandered off and got lost, she could've been abducted by a malicious opportunist, she could've fallen into a hole and injured herself for all we know. It reminds me of the time my almost 5 year old did something similar. She never leaves the house without an adult, but there was one morning when she woke up and couldn't find me in my room (i was in the bathroom) so she went to check outside because she panicked and thought she was alone. I'm sitting on the toilet at 5 AM and I hear the front door unlock and open **cue heart attack**, so I rush out to see what's going on, and she's in the front yard looking for me by herself in the dark. She hated the dark, but she hated being alone more, so she decided to go search for me. That being said, I think it's definitely a possibility in this case that Haliegh left the house on her own. Especially since there doesn't seem to be any evidence that something happened in the house, nor evidence of a clean up. The parents are clearly hiding something, but it's hard to tell if they're hiding a death, or neglectful parenting and drug activity. Or both. I don't know, I'm just throwing spaghetti at the wall at this point. No matter the circumstances, it's just tragic. I hope they find that beautiful baby and bring her home soon.

None of these people involved should have had children or take care of children. So sad for this beautiful little girl.

I think Misty gave the children something to make them sleep, went to a party, came home in the middle of the night and found the little girl had overdosed and called those boys to get rid of the body. It explains why she'd be frantic on the phone as it was an accident, and also show that maybe she wasnt pulling things out of thin air, by saying that two lads took the body in a bag, maybe it was a half truth. Rest in peace to this poor girl, never let a child look after children.

It's a tell-tale sign when the person calling 911 explains the scene before she mentions the child is missing. "When we woke up our back door was open, now we can't find our daughter." Like it's not her fault, it's the door's fault, she shifts the blame in her first words. Plus, she said she saw that the child was missing from her bed, and never looked for her any place else.

what a bad situation all around, a 25 year old man has no business being in a relationship with a 17 year old, and a 17 year old shouldnt be looking after two kids shes not even related to. poor haleigh.

Idk about all of this. It could have been the parents or step mom or extended family. But I can’t get it out of my head how this family would be a predators dream come true. Seriously, cracked out pill head parents. Violent unsteady dad. Moms off somewhere on all kinds of stuff. And there’s a 17 year old stoner girlfriend left alone with a 5 year old girl and 3 year old boy all night like, what, 3-5 nights a week? Jesus. Pedos are aware of this stuff. They know how to target the children who will be less likely to get them caught. All that being said, it could have been any of them.

I thought it was weird that Misty didn't know Haleigh's date of birth. I also thought it was weird when Ronald covered his mic while being interviewed and told Misty to look at the camera. Idk that just stood out to me as a red flag.

this makes me sad for tons of reasons obviously but the fact that her bio mom couldn't take care of them due to drug use and yet seemed to be the only adult in this case who truly cared and was doing everything she could to find her. not saying the kids should've been in her custody at the time either but she sure seemed a hell of a lot more caring and stable than Misty at least from those interviews. so heartbreaking
