I'm not trying to be funny when I say that this is one of a handful of movies that caused a short rift in my relationship with my father. He holds this film at the same level as The Godfather. I don't know what it is about Mel Gibson but my VERY black father is a ride or die fan of this man. Watching this brought back so many bad memories 😂

Fun fact! The city I grew up in, Yuma Arizona, is the winter vegetable capital of America. They produce the entire country’s supply of lettuce in the winter. This takes a lot of water, and because California keeps taking more and more water from Colorado river before it gets to us, the nation is facing an eventual shortage of lettuce! So an indoor garden is an excellent purchase 😂

@@ThexDynastxQueen The lettuce does really well in the climate here in the winter, that’s why it’s the winter vegetable capital. Our growing season is year round. So when other climates get too cold for the lettuce to grow, we can still get lettuce here. You’ll likely still be able to get lettuce in the spring/summer, but not in the winter. Additionally, we’re close to the border which makes it easier to access migrant labor. High humidity is actually bad for lettuce and leads to mildew and other diseases

Seems like an equal waste of water to grow lettuce in the dessert just so we can have it in the winter. If lettuce can't grow year round without over-sacrificing resources...maybe we don't have to eat lettuce year round.

I think Yuma was a more marsh type environment pre-colonization (I need to do more research) but we’ve changed so much that it’s just another thing 😅 it has to be a fun fact, because that’s the way I cope with living in a world where “nationwide shortage of lettuce due to people diverting water away from the city that just so happens to be environmentally destroyed in a way that causes lettuce grow really well in the winter” is a thing

I grow lettuce for my guinea pigs and just so you know you can cut the outer leaves and it will keep growing. (Don't cut the baby leaves or it can stop growing) Or you can cut the whole lettuce at once.

Kennie, after the Xmas magic, would you consider watching a 90s action/comedy/romance about a sad and shy hitman who ends up kidnapping/falling in love with the daughter of a Japanese businessman while his partners betray him and an inexplicable side plot about a movie rental store hounding the hitman for an unreturned porn film? Starting Mark Wahlberg? It’s called The Big Hit and I need other people to know it exists cuz I watched it so many times in high school and then discovered no one else had ever seen it.

If you're looking for another bad Christmas movie, might I suggest Dear Santa (I'm pretty sure that's the tile) about a woman who falls in love with a guy and stalks him and his kid after intercepting his daughter's Santa Letter that has their address, and inserts herself into their lives... and it's framed as a cutesy chipper romcom, and the fiance of the guy is framed as the stereotypical ice queen because her personality is more down to earth and a little stricter than the dead mom's, and because she is justifiably suspicious of the main character and rightfully points out when the main character does horrible things (that the movie never adresses). It's up there with The Christmas Prince in that, if you ignore the smiley venir and focus on the actual events, is way more interesting to talk about.

Trick for keeping those veggies that wilt quickly fresh and snappy: keep them submerged in water in the fridge. It works for spinach so I would assume it works for lettuce. I primarily do it with bean sprouts (which go rancid so quick without it) and to make peas in the pod more crisp. Just put the veggies in some Tupperware and fill with water.

Well I suppose now you have to watch Violent Night (I think it's still in theaters but I assume will be on a streaming eventually) it's literally the same movie where Santa gets attacked by hitmen and goes ham on them. BTW Lots of Asian restaurants are open on Christmas day. Asian restaurants often serve Peking Duck as a top dish on their menus.
