Whether dedicated to Kenny's father or not, the song is not about cancer or alcoholism. If you read the lyrics and watch the original video, it's about a married woman having an affair and stringing a guy along. He's giving her an ultimatum. THIS IS IT. You're going no further, time to decide. It's him or me. Let your friends believe what they want. Leave him behind. First verse, "don't wait for some miracle"...Second verse, "Here's your miracle, it's ME, dummy". Perfect marriage of lyrics and music.

Great music is great music. Color has nothing to do with it. Aretha Franklin's best era of music was played by white musicians from Alabama in the 60's. Elvis Presley and Tom Jones almost always had all black backup singers. As a five year old black child, I was and still am in love with "Take Five" by Dave Brubeck to adult's amusement. Didn't care or know what race, sex or color he was or the band. Loved James Brown, the Beatles, Hank Williams, Glenn Miller, Aretha, Dionne Warwick, etc., all with equal fervor. It disturbs me when people say they like an artist or genre of music in spite of their race. Really?? Just enjoy the blessings of gifted artists. You will love the music more.

Wow, where do I start, this song is absolutely awesome from the musicians to the instruments and lyrics. This was my anthem in the 80s. I played this song every morning reflecting on my life and my relationships with all wow praising God for providing all of us with love and talents to inspire others. I would love to hear a instrumental version of this Song. Thank you Loggins and McDonald for your imagination, creativity and inspiration and work you put in to make this song. This is it. 🙏🏾

This song is Everything!- Kenny has inspired and influenced Sooo many artist. In all categories of Music. Just Brilliant

What's even funnier he inspired and influenced many RNB singers everyone from Micheal to El Debarge( he recorded a hit with him). People were saying he mimicked Micheal's voice on this song- Which of course was not true. Kenny had already perfected his skills years before Micheal was even heard as an adult. Quite a few borrowed from him.

I didn't realize how versatile of a singer Kenny Loggins is. In Loggins and Messina he was more of a country/rock singer. On "This Is It" he's dabbling into funk and soul, and in the mid 80's he's was doing high octane pop rock. He was the soundtrack king in the 80's.

One of THEE MOST HEARTFUL, BEAUTIFUL & HEARTBREAKING Songs EVER. Kenny Loggins wrote this Song about his Father having n going through Cancer, the Same Time that My Father had n was going through Cancer. We Both lost Them to It. During that Time I was a Senior in Junior High School, that My Father had been Looking Very Forward to and Graduation. He wasn't there at Riverside Church on Graduation Day, which Still Haunts, Saddens and Hurts Me, 42 Years Later and Forever Will. DEEP SONG. GOD BLESS Kenny Loggins' FATHER & My DADDY. May Their SOULS BE AT REST IN POWER N IN ETERNAL PEACE IN PARADISE...🙏🏾👼🏾🤲🏾🕊🙌🏾😇

You’ve been without your Mother for quite some time now. Because we never truly heal; my condolences for your loss. Small cells Lung cancer took my “Star” in 2003. Her death left a crater in my Soul! These songs transport me back to my childhood, where she was healthy, beautiful and filled with the promise of long-life. I miss her every second. To both of our Mothers; Rest In Peace🖤

One of the best vocalists from the 70s and a good song-writer too. His Celebrate Me Home album is very solid, creative with great melodies. This song is sensational although the video doesn't do it justice. Thanks Kenny for your creativity and contribution to good music.

in 1979 I was just three years old and I love this song as if I had enjoyed it in those years, and I experience it with songs even from previous years ... which has given me the idea that as babies they could hear these melodies but not conscious way of what we hear appreciating the melody, voice and all that ... and, even so, years after listening to them again, we like and awaken nostalgic feelings without understanding why, and I think it is because it was recorded in our very small brain. That made me understand why I am so melomana of this type of music that is not from my time! ... but I really enjoy it.

+Everyone: Loggins decided to create this song,toTry to light a Fire under his Dad`s butt,to inspire him to come back from dying, while his dad was Dying in the Hospital Bed. Apparently it worked, because he came back, got healthier, and loved a bit longer.

Lyrics "This Is It" There've been times in my life I've been wonderin' why Still, somehow I believed we'd always survive Now, I'm not so sure You're waiting here One good reason to try But, what more can I say What's left to provide (You think that maybe it's over) (Only if you want it to be) Are you gonna wait for a sign, your miracle Stand up and fight (This is it) Make no mistake where you are (This is it) You back's to the corner (This is it) Don't be a fool anymore (This is it) The waiting is over, no, don't you run No way to hide No time for wonderin' why It's here, the moment is now, about to decide Let 'em believe Leave 'em behind But keep me near in your heart Know whatever you do I'm here by your side (You say that maybe it's over) (Not if you don't want it to be) For once in your life Here's your miracle Stand up and fight (This is it) Make no mistake where you are (This is it) You're goin' no further (This is it) Until it's over and done (No one can tell you what you know) Whoa-oh-ho, whoa-aaah (Who makes the choice of how it goes) It's not up to me this time (You know) Comes a day in every life (This is it) Make no mistake where you are (This is it) You're goin' no further (This is it) Until it's over and done (This is it) One way or another (This is it) (No one can tell what the future holds) (This is it) Your back's to the corner (This is it) (You make the choice of how it goes) (This is it) The waiting is over (This is it) (No one can tell what the future holds) (This is it) You're goin' no further (This is it)

Just love Kenny Loggins music. It was a great help to me while I was in college. It has been a comfort to me too during very difficult times in my life. He's a very talented man. I'm happy he is now retiring and taking time for himself and his family. Although he will no longer be touring, his music will still be out there for all to enjoy. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful talent. We will miss you.
