I once worked for a company in HR and there was a supervisor that would place weekly supposedly positive affirmations on our desk. Well this was when the movie The Help came out and the print-out that she decided to print and put on my (person of color)'s desk was this : You is Kind, You is Smart, You is Important....now even though I knew she meant it in her best Karen kind of way...I took offensive to it so I didn't hang it up ...the problem was when two Karens approached my desk after a couple of days went by to ask me why wont I hang it and they took the liberty to hang at the front desk/reception area where young person of color sat and worked...I politely took it down (she was thankful) and I went to the supervisors office to explain to her why it was offensive. Very apologetic ...She then sent out an email that was even more offensive trying to explain what she meant (it was regarding the Viola Davis character) I was just ugh! Needless to say I didn't stay in that passive aggressive racial undertone office very long. Seriously sometime they just have no clue!
