Kim kardashian lost 16 pounds in 3 weeks for the met gala..lets talk about it. Thank you athletic greens for sponsoring this video athleticgreens....
It seems all glamrous being a kardashian, but the behind the scenes of what goes into stepping on the carpet seems well YIKES. Originally I had planned an unboxing video of testing different wellness/health products that are on the Poosh website, and well this happened so current day KOC popped in to comment SORRY ABOUT THE CRAZINESS HAHAH

So my biggest "issue" with this whole thing is that if Kim really loves fashion as much as she says she does, she would understand the preservation that is required for a 60 year old dress and she would wear a replica, not the original dress. Like there is no way that she didn't step on it, didn't get some sort of make up on it, or anything.
@shell7142

Exactly, that dress was long, it was most likely stepped on, she wears tanner so obviously there has to be some left on it. Anybody who says they love something…. Would have respect for their love. But she loves attention more.

I love artistic liberty. I really do, but after hearing the upheaval of negative emotions from the historical fashion and costuming community, I now realize Kim should never have worn this dress. It is a literal museum piece. Not her fault. She offered a lot of money to Ripley's, and they took her up on the business offer. What a shame to know that, that dress's life span has been significantly decreased by this one walk down the red carpet though.
@erikal.7845
@erikal.7845 2 жыл бұрын
If I could like this multiple times I would, it was irresponsible for Ripleys to allow it. Kim could've worn the replica the whole time. The real show stopper of the Met in my opinion is Blake Lively, she contributed to the ideation of her outfit and the entire outfit was inspired by gilded age architecture, she blew away the prompt, and had the showy aspect of the dress literally "patina" as she moved down the carpet. What Kim did was infamous, what Blake did was historic. (Edited for spelling)

This! I wish I could like it a million times. That dress is a museum piece and if it was in a real museum it would be illegal for her to wear it. Not Kim's fault she should not being getting all the hate (I will be the first to say I am not a fan). Ripley's greedy higher ups should get all the blame.

Also in my opinion, it's *Marilyn Monroe's* dress, that's why it's historic. Kim Kardashian wearing that is one, insulting, but also, I don't care if she wore a Marilyn Monroe dress. That doesn't make her iconic to me. Marilyn Monroe was iconic wearing that dress, Kim trying to be iconic just by wearing that dress not having an ounce of who Marilyn was doesn't make her stand out to me at all. Makes me feel like she's deliberately weighing herself upto Marilyn Monroe and that feels more pick me than iconic
@jamiepx9
@jamiepx9 2 жыл бұрын
@@scribblemonster370 As I said before I in no way like Kim in fact I don't care for any of the Kardashians I think they are entitled, but I don't really like this rhetoric. This is the same attitude that Marilyn herself faced when she was alive. Edited for spelling.
@erikal.7845
@erikal.7845 2 жыл бұрын
@@jamiepx9 while I agree raising Marilyn Monroe to mythic status and putting Kim down as pick me for wanting to follow in the footsteps of an icon isn't necessary, I do think there is something to say for a lack of originality and the implication of wearing someone else's couture clothing. That dress, in a sense, has Marilyn's essence in it, down to her skin cells, it is hers whether she's dead or alive and it feels quite gross for someone to impose themselves so intimately on the deceased with so little regard for the person who wore the dress and made it iconic... in a weird way it feels similar to the intrusiveness of paparazzi in celebrities lives. Beyond that, it exhibits creativity in the thought process to aquire it but nothing else, instead of having a designer make Kim something that she can make iconic in its own right, they just took something already iconic and harmed it in doing so. Even a replica, to my mind is a disservice to the amazing and creative designers that are out there, we've already been there and done that incredibly well, so let's do something new.
@greeniejoey

Marilyn Monroe's should have never been worn by anyone. The material is too delicate and the weight of the beading itself can cause the fabric to tear. The sheer fact Marilyn Monroe sewn into the dress and cut out of the dress also decreases the dress' integrity. Plus the dress was not even part of the theme. Last year it would have been part of theme.

No one is taking the side that this compromised the dress. Even the few minutes that she wore it could have ripped th dress. Spoiler, the dress still didn’t fit. Buzzfeed released photos that the dress isn’t even fully zipped at the butt, hence the fur stole that she wore. The American Historical Costume Association has come out and said this should never have happened. Something could have happened and we could have lost the dress.

Also it’s made with a material that is not made anymore. I’m not into celebrity anything….. I could care less about majority of fashion. BUT my opinion I think it’s dumb to wear somebody’s dress who passed away and wear it for your goal of getting attention because…. That’s all it is. For attention. I don’t know much about Marlyn Monroe but I heard she had a hard life and I don’t think that’s fair to be wearing her dress. Not to mention it is a historical artifact with the material. If we can’t touch other historical artifacts why does somebody with money can? This world is gross, money gets you anything.

Agreed, this dress is a significant piece of our cultural history and no one should have been wearing it. You could put the dress on a super skinny runway model whose body put zero strain on the dress and it would still be damaging the dress. It would still be wrong. I don't think Kim K is really even the problem here - we don't respect or value clothing as historical artifact, so this irreplaceable dress, previously only ever worn by Marilyn, was abused for a gross stunt. Abby Cox has a great video on this that is worth checking out if you'd like to learn more about the importance of dress history and dress conservation.

My form of self-care is discipline. Discipline to keep myself physically and emotionally healthy. I think a lot of people confuse self-care and self-indulgence, but self indulgence tends to be more spontaneous and is satisfying short term urges. I definitely believe in treating myself, but it’s important to find this balance and make sure you set yourself up for good, sustainable, positive habits. I love to row, play soccer, walk around my city, do fun things that make me feel good. It’s even better self-care when I have my loved ones participating as well (which is funny because it is “self” care). Thanks, love your videos! Hope recovery is going well.

That dress is a part of history. It was sewn onto Marilyn Monroe's body, and made to match her skin tone exactly. Kim Kardashian showed a huge lack of respect doing this at all. It's like paying to replace her prints in front of the Chinese Theater. Considering Monroe was a prominent and historical woman in her own field of entertainment, the it doesn't say great things about her that she even wanted to do this.

Trigger warning ED - in my opinion her weight loss was for her own artistic expression and didn’t trigger me. The issue I have is with journalists trying to shock people by wording it in a certain way. The way they titled probably 95% of the articles was triggering and didn’t show Kim’s true intentions, they took away from the fashion aspect and were drawing attention to her weight loss. They don’t know if Kim suffers from ED 🤷🏼‍♀️ it could have triggered her, she’s going through a lot. She was at a high fashion event and any articles about her outfit were massively outweighed by articles about her weight. The journalists at the event were fashion reporters, not reporters that write about food, lifestyle, body image issue, they shouldn’t have been focusing on the weight loss. She made one comment about the weight loss and it’s been completely taken out of proportion

My form of self-care is to get a walk in everyday and play video games! Loved this video! Another perspective to add to this situation is the fact people were upset that she wore the dress because Marilyn was now no longer the last person to wear this dress. Kim was also presented with a lock of Marilyn’s hair which weirded a lot of people out including me, like let the woman Rest In Peace. Not sure how to feel about it because I see how people are upset about it but also the fashion aspect, like she was paying tribute to Marilyn but she did have a very tragic ending and I feel it gets skipped over because she was such a beautiful woman that that is all people cared about or “worship”. Crazy!

Normally I would agree with the point that “men are applauded for something that women are ridiculed for,” except that when it comes to acting roles, both men and women have been applauded. I remember Natalie Portman’s weight loss for black swan and Anne Hathaway’s 500-cal-a-day regimen for Les Mis were upheld as signs of commitment. I think a big part of what is at play is that preparing for an acting role is unequivocally regarded as art whereas fashion is considered frivolous. Now, given that fashion is typically regarded as a more feminine thing, the fact it isn’t considered as high-brow of art as acting is a product of misogyny, but I think here the issue is less “what gender is losing crazy amounts of weight” than “why are they losing all this weight?” And losing weight to negatively impact a historic piece of fashion that isn’t even on theme feels like a bizarre choice.

My form of self care is making time for my priorities. An example of this is my daily yoga practice in the morning. I have to be at work at 6am but I always get up early enough to make sure I have some time for myself in the morning. I used to only think of self care as pampering myself with bubble baths, etc but then realized if I took care of myself in any way (yoga, preping things ahead of time, being outside) that was self care too. So I have been exploring how to care for myself and make myself a priority as well. I love watching your videos even if you have felt all over the place. It keeps me interested and always coming back to watch!

I don't think the statement "when men do it they are applauded but when a girl does it, we're attacking her" is accurate. It's more nuanced than that. In my opinion, a character in a movie vs a three minute publicity stunt is hardly comparable. And the more I find out about Kim K wearing the dress, the more I disagree with it. She never should have been allowed to wear it. It is a piece of history that has been tarnished and permanently damaged.

My form of self care, is journaling for a few hours. But the absolute best one, is looking at myself in the mirror, wearing something that I’m extremely confident in, and singing to myself/dancing. It boosts my confidence so much and makes me feel unstoppable and like a super hero! (Like Captain Marvel ❤️) I have been trying to do this more and more and it makes me feel incredibly stunning and powerful! If you have never done this. Try it. Love you Keltie :)

KELTIE! Thank you so much for this! Your Friday videos have always been the highlight of the week since the start of the pandemic. Thinking about self-care these last few months has been hard for me, especially at the wake of grad school rejections, and insane amounts of burn-out since graduating from Stanford. Therefore, I'm glad your prompt sort of forced me to consider the ways I am taking care of myself and how I can promote my overall health and well-being. For me, self-care is making my bed, finding little ways to be creative, such as putting extra effort into making my coffee look pretty, Forcing myself to roast vegetables in the oven in large quantities so I know I will get my veggies in (although I am now considering AG to supplement that), and prioritizing seeing friends and those I love even when times I would rather isolate myself.

Hope you’re doing good:) second off I have been following you for years but recently I’ve really been trying to prioritize my health and fitness journey and have been watching you more frequently so I would LOVE for you to send me some of your old gymshark clothes. But I always read to get my mind right! It’s my favorite thing to do

My form of self care right now is taking time out of my day to get outside and get some fresh air, whether that be going on a walk with the dogs or just catching the rays on my patio for at least 10 minutes. As for the Kim K 16 pounds in 3 weeks, I agree with you. She was doing it for the opportunity to wear Marilyn Monroes dress and people should not think that is what they should do to lose weight. She is obviously okay with how her weight was prior and doesnt care if she gains it all back. It's almost like people losing weight JUST because they are getting married, where that seems like a silly reason to lose the weight but they do it anyways.

When i was a kid, I once heard that one of the best forms of self care is creating a life that you dont need escaping from. So for me it is putting my efforts towards what i want. I want my degree and i want to be in healthy and in shape. (But not in the "rise and grind, i wake up at 3 am and study 12 hours a day" way.) In order to achive those things i have to put i the work, but in order to do that I also have to be well and rested. Bubbly Baths and if i can afford it, a massage. Turning on my favorite movie, going for drinks with friends.

Self care for me translates into so many different things. Some days it’s just getting up and actually doing my skin care routine. Some days it’s getting a good workout in when I was feeling down. Some days it’s going thrifting and find some new, unique outfits. Other days it’s just throwing on a little makeup to brighten myself up. My daily self care is reminding myself to eat, that food isn’t my enemy and that water is ESSENTIAL, but also when my energy isn’t there for all of the above, it’s reminding myself that I am beautiful and deserving of the world. ☺️❤️

I recently started on episode 1 season 1 of Keeping Up for the first time. I have such a different view of them now. They have worked their asses off and sure we need to stop judging people based off what they do. Kim k works harder than most, if not all, the people I know. I thought the weight loss was crazy, but I loved what you said about art. So true! I feel like UFC fighters do similar and body builders before a show.

I think this is just the epitome of celebrity/rich privilege. She shouldn’t have worn the dress for so many reasons (regards to preserving the dress) but she just did because she has money. And the same goes for the weight loss, as you said Keltie - her money also facilitated that. I also appreciate what you said about men being applauded vs women being ridiculed for the same thing, but my hope for equality in this particular area is that we stop celebrating weight loss in all instances, extreme or otherwise. Find the dress that is the size you wear. Find the actor that looks like your character. They all exist. Let’s celebrate genuine diversity and representation instead of shape-shifting.

I work full-time and am working on my third bachelor degree next to that, plus I have a husband and two cat children, and sometimes a social life too. My issue is with how she said it, like she didn’t realise it would have an impact. But she’s such a huge name and figure and a lot of people look up to her for a variety of reasons. I do wish she’d disclaimed, as you said, that it wasn’t healthy and that she plans to regain it. Whether she said it and it just didn’t make the interview or not, I hope she knows that and does plan to return to health. On that, I worry about her physical and mental health from doing that extreme diet, and I worry about the physical and mental health of those who try to replicate that thinking it’s the “right” thing to do. I do understand your thoughts on it being art and thought that was very interesting as I’d not considered that before! From my understanding, people who lose (or gain) weight for roles in tv and film usually do so with the guidance and support of a healthcare professional in that field to ensure it is monitored and done safely. On another note, my self care mainly comes in a two forms: 1. Yoga and meditation every morning and not going on my phone until after (the biggest thing for my mental health!) 2. Getting enough sleep, and reading before bed I love all your videos, if you’re happy making them, I’m happy watching them!

I love that you don't just bash the Kardashians because they are the Kardashians. I don't watch them and there are things they do I hate. But I guess some people will hate and bash everything they do just because they are who they are. I love you explaining both sides and I actually agree. My form of selfcare is walking in the woods while listening to some mindfullnes excersises. It's like I am really fuelling my mind. I'm a really down to earth person who is not spiritual at all. But I decided a while ago that I need to treat my mind the same as I am treating my body. And now it is my favorite form of self care. Also if you are in Europe again, visit the Netherlands (not just Amsterdam) :)

My sense of self-care is doing the things that I want to do that can improve my physical, mental and emotional health. I call my sister every night and we do yoga together. I get to talk to her and she gets to unwind from working in a trauma unit at a hospital. I also like to do a full body care after I shower that makes me happy when I can get the energy to do the full thing.

Self-care! Recently I’ve been waking up 30-60min earlier than usual to read and do something to get my heart racing. I feel like as a mom and wife I have to regularly pick between reading, working out and cleaning lol some people may see waking up earlier not apart of self care but ohmygosh what a difference in my life it is making! If anyone else is a busy mom/wife don’t think of waking up early as a chore but as care.

Love the way you addressed it. Extreme weight loss is never something to be proud of or promote. But, It is unfair that when actors do it for roles is ok but not for a women in fashion. For your question, my form of self care keeps changing and evolving but I notice two things are the ones I keep going back to: 1) spending time with those important to me (boyfriend, siblings, fam, friends), and 2) making time for myself as a priority (yoga, movement, praying, walks) Love your videos as always💕

My form of self care all depends on my schedule. If I have time I straighten up my apartment, make dinner, put candles and stream lights on and sip wine with my dinner. I agree with this video. If they/she could've just said something to the effect of, "this is art. it's not sustainable, etc" however, if that was the case, we wouldn't be talking about it, least i don't think so. my form of self care is going for a walk, taking some deep breaths or having a nice cup of coffee in my kitchen while the sun shines through the window - different kind of peace. sidenote: Keltie - i think i saw you walking by barry's - wish I wasn't on my lunch break, rushing back to the office, would've loved to say hi!
