I am willing to bet that they don't want to Investigate or arrest for armed robbery, strong armed robbery, shoplifting, food bill beats, and theft because humans have a right to eat. This Sheriff is Virtue Signaling- he is not on humanity's side, he is on Criminal's side.

Sheriff needs to be relieved of his duties, if he's not willing to enforce the law. Tho clearly, they've allowed it to become such a huge problem, it may take a small army, as well as hazmat teams to clear the camps, at this point. I think maybe the job is just too big for the PD now. Some special task forces need to be created, to deal with it. I'm betting that's the biggest concern for the PD, moreso than actual concern for anyone's "constitutional rights". It's just going to be a really big, time consuming hassle for them. Most especially if no penalties are attached, and the same people just keep returning to the same areas, over & over again. And it's not just a case of moving unwilling people out of areas they're not supposed to be in - there also needs to be special cleanup of the effected areas, removal of left behind belongings & any makeshift shelters erected, assessment of any potential biohazards, etc. This requires so much more than a police presence. As for offering shelter - I personally think jail should be their first stop, especially if they are repeat offenders. Whether anything else can or should be done for them, should then be assessed, from that arena. And at that point, the court should order any further intervention needed, (such as substance abuse rehab, mental health treatment, etc), as a condition for release. But of course they're going to scream their rights are being violated, by anything that interrupts their substance abuse & other potential criminal activities. People just need to stop buying into that BS. There was far less of this going on, when there were actual penalties for vagrancy/trespassing etc. Proving that other options CAN and WILL be found, if an avoidance of deterrents is desired... A bit of jail time would discourage most, as they cant continue the "habits" this lifestyle supports, in a jail cell. Tho most could probably benefit from a "sobering up" period, as well as some follow up intervention. None of which is "cruel". It's a kindness, if anything. Leaving people on the streets, & allowing self destructive behaviors to continue, is what's cruel. I really think most who rally to keep them there, are benefiting from their situation, in some way. Maybe dealing drugs to them, etc. If the camps go away, so does their income! They may also be a handy source of drugs for other users. Either way, it all really truly needs to stop.

It’s ridiculous that most commenters here have no idea that our King County Sheriff is a black woman. She holds THE MOST IMPORTANT job position in King County. Why don’t we all know her? Is it because we never see her? 🤔 imo, it looks like she doesn’t care about us-the residents, the people living & working here-when she never comes out in public to take accountability for what’s happening in our streets! We have here teens involved in gun violence, drugs and homelessness, unsupervised mentally ill people injuring/deleting other people. But our cops collect very healthy 6-figure paychecks for doing mostly paperwork and catch/release. Why do we have to put up with this? King County residents need to take back the power to elect the next sheriff. We desperately need a sheriff who’s visible and accountable. Someone like Sheriff Grady Judd of Polk County, FL. He was ELECTED by the people he serves. He and his officers actually bust criminals and he talks to the public about the issues. All the time. I’m not saying our sheriff has to be a white man. I’m not white and I’m not a man and I wasn’t born in the U.S. I couldn’t care less about anyone’s skin color, gender or looks. All I want for our county (and state) is to have the best people to serve us for the money we all pay.

Being a homeless street sweeper is absolutely a no win situation for the Sheriff Department! These people fall into a protected class in WA for one reason or another, all of which creates volatility!
