I’ve had several of these machines and after selling them I always want another. They’re small and nimble and have a gear for every situation. They definitely aren’t fast but they’re fast enough to have fun on. They were built to last. These and the Honda’s were probably the toughest machines you could buy but the features on the Suzuki were unbeatable. Arctic Cat used this same engine/transaxle and front diff in their 250/300 ATV’s.

Hi there. I just purchased a 1984 quad runner 300 for $65 cad. Runs starts drives! Had it ripping 80kph on the dirt road by my house. It is pretty beat up but still runs strong. Original wheels on it since 1984 still good. Bike needs brake lever to use the brakes I currently have none. And a battery it runs with the pull cord.

These, the 250 QuadRunner 4x4 (and their Arctic Cat counterparts) and the Fourtrax 300's are the best small ATV's ever built. Go anywhere, do anything, never leave you stranded. My old 93 KQ300 could pull nearly as much as my Traxter and that is saying something for a machine with only 280cc of displacement. Sold mine years ago but always on the lookout for another. Don't really need one but I do miss it. They are still being built and sold new over in Australia and New Zealand, basically the same machine as the facelifted version. Probably the longest production run of any utility ATV out there.

4 or 5 x the HP 🤣. Those king quad 300s make just over 20hp that can am probably has 31 32 hp. If you put a bigger carb on a better exhaust it would even out pretty good. Suzuki and Honda really choked there engines for longevity thru the 80s and 90s. Put a bigger carb and a supertrap exhaust on my Honda 185s and no bs the bike probably picked up 3-5hp. I can imagine that 300 could do better maybe even break the 35hp mark with a better piston and a ported head. Not saying do it but it can be made to compete with newer machines. Swap a set of rfy adjustable gas shocks into it a small diy lift and you could 100% beat that canned ham.
@CumminsDriver
@CumminsDriver 3 жыл бұрын
I doubt the king quad is over 20hp. Probably more like 16-17. There isn’t a chance of getting an easy 30+ horsepower out of them. I had a 600 grizzly which I believe was rated about 32 and it was easily twice as fast as a king quad. They are excellent machines, but they aren’t a powerhouse and it isn’t easy to make them one either. I’m sure they can be pepped up a little but 2hp is a pretty good gain on an engine that small.
@buildurtruckurway9118
@buildurtruckurway9118 3 жыл бұрын
@@CumminsDriver Suzuki rates the 300 king quad at 21.5 - 22 hp it's in the manual and every resource I've been able to look up. My Honda 185s makes 14hp bone stock and my 200m makes 16hp. With just an supertrap exhaust and a 4mm bigger carb with a mild intake port job I guarantee my 200m is making 20hp. I know for a fact that more cc's will make make more power if it can breathe. Suzuki and Honda really restricted these engines for longevity that's why they would go 5000 miles offroad near repair free. There is alot of bolt on parts for the king quad. intakes, carbs, exhausts, cams and if you look hard there's even big bore kits from the 90s that guys hoarded. If you can take some time with a Dremel some good stones and burs the intake and exhaust can almost be opened up to twice the size in just a couple hrs of work. Even if they made 40 HP a kingquad itself would never be nimble feeling of fast. it's a semi auto trans in a 600lb bike with no torque it just doesn't carry the power thru like a newer bike. that can am probably weighed 450 at most had a CVT system keeping it in the power band at all times and a far better suspension geometry. The king quad would never outdo it in anything other than raw pulling power and climbing due to the low and super low range which is what I meant by outdo the can am. But it can made to keep up comfortably with newer bikes on long trail rides with rfy shocks. The Griz 600 was a great machine made 37 HP when they first came out. By the end it was a 40 HP machine. There's atv shops out here in canada that mod them to make 60+ HP for the guys that want to tear apart muskeg and keep up with the newer 600cc+ bikes.

King quad 300 is rated by EPA at 12 hp, I've seen the 20 plus ratings but I highly doubt a 276cc single with that baby carb makes 20 plus and certainly doesn't feel like it. My 2000 kodiak 400 makes 26 hp and it's a 401cc liquid cooled and has 10.5 to 1 compression so yeah the 20 plus ratings are in no way accurate.
@buildurtruckurway9118
@buildurtruckurway9118 2 жыл бұрын
@@jeremyodonnell5551 I'd like to know where your finding these said EPA ratings. The lowest I've been able to find was 19hp and that was directly from a UK review site compairing it and the bayou/KLF300. The 1993+ according to Suzuki made 21hp. The carb is definitely not small for that power range it's a 32mm cvk which is the same size as a most single cylinder 300-500cc sport bikes from the 90s that can make upwards of 45hp. By no means is it optimal at those power levels but they do it quite well. My Norton commando 650 runs 2, 30mm carbs and makes just under 70hp, that's almost 35hp on each little 30mm pz style carb which is far less efficient than a cvk.
