I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your *exhaustive* review series of this cheap printer. I wish more reviewers would put this kind of effort into the actual nuts and bolts of how the thing works, how it doesn't, and how it could be made better - instead of spending all their time on "production value". Great stuff, and please keep it up.

Brilliant.. I love your videos and the way you analyze the problems, it's way better compared to most other 3d printer channels on KZfaq. Hope your channel keeps growing.

Love your videos, I’m on the fence about getting the KP3S as a worker bee. It was awesome to see you did a whole series on it! Enjoyed it all

Such useful info in general for evaluating/tuning a 3D printer. Tweaking the titles to reflect this could help more people to benefit from it eg 'Print testing and tuning of Budget 3D Printers - Kingroon KP3s...'

Hi Alex as an engineer, i find it very refreshing to get a youtube 3d printing (and other) channel with more depth. I am thinking of preloading some cheap carriages for a project and wondered about ball size for preload - do you have knowledge of what Hiwin or others use for various pre-load settings? (maybe formulae, tables, or % oversize?)

Cool vid and info. On a side note, have you ever used Nylog? It's used in refrigeration but it's some really sticky mineral oil.

Edit: Ahahaha, the issue with the "eating up my SD cards" is the same with me. I had to open up the printer just a few times to get the SD out... ;) I got my Kingroon about 2 months ago, and I love it. Bought a second one for my office, and a third one as a spare (I have a few 3D printers standing around here, my latest addition is a Prusa Mini, which I got about 2 weeks ago). In direct comparison even with the Prusa it is still a very nice printer. I use Cura 4.8 with the proper config files and it works as a charm! I have not changed or dis-assembled anything around the Hot-End, thought I got a blocked nozzle a few days before, but with a thin needle and a little fiddling I got it going again! Overall a nice printer, which I could recommend for beginners to start with. Good price point, at least where I live (Austria), we can get it from Amazon Germany at around 140-160EUR, the price jumps just around that range.

My way to extract stubborn throat PTFE is to put a suitable self-tapping screw in and then pull out with powerful tweezers or something similar. Obviously the piece is then ruined, but then, odds are, you had your reason to pull it.

I'm houngry for more! Wold You concider to do testing on some cheapo Delta printers? I'm totally into noise level video. What hardwate and software did You used for this one?
@AlexKenis
@AlexKenis 3 жыл бұрын
I was planning to do some videos on delta and coreXY this year, BUT that was before all the 2020 problems hit and set back the plans to get into a bigger workspace and made work a nightmare. SOOOO whenever space and cash are not as tight, I'll be able to branch out a bit.

I'd actually love more info on properly preloading the linear rails. It's not something I've been easily able to find info I could use. I've been playing around with ceramic bearings cause they need less lube & weigh a lot less but they aren't the cheapest thing so I don't want to go playing around with sizes until I know a bit more.
@AlexKenis
@AlexKenis 3 жыл бұрын
We'll see how well it works out if/when the bearings arrive from overseas, and even if it doesn't work, I'll make a video. My fear is that the tolerances are not tight enough to take larger bearings and it will bind up, but we'll see

@@AlexKenis so i had a big brain moment for me... my local makerspace had a wonderful donation of hole checkers (forget the technical name) that graduate by .001" AAND it turns out... going 1 thousandth of an inch over the bearing size is too large for the bearing block to slide on. now the hole checkers dont have spherical ends so maybe that's part of it but my guess is that we are looking at a few hundredths of a mm to add preload max. so 2.39mm bearings or one size 2.381 & the other side 2.4?
@AlexKenis
@AlexKenis 3 жыл бұрын
Oh nice! Good to know. Yes, the plan was to just try one side and see how it went. If you have any luck, let me know. The carts are tough enough to get on the rails even when they are not oversized, so I don't know if they have to load them under compression or what, but I was planning to freeze the bearings if they seemed like they just needed a little nudge to go on. NO idea if any of that would work but why not try... They measured close enough to a standard 3/32" bearing that while I'm waiting to see if the bearings EVEN show up from overseas, I was thinking of sweet talking my local hardware store into letting me go through their bearing drawer with a micrometer to see if I could put together a few sets that are sliiightly different.
@AlexKenis
@AlexKenis 3 жыл бұрын
I just ordered a thousand 'loose diameter tolerance' bearings that have a +/- diameter of one thousanth of an inch, so hopefully A) piece together a few different diameter sets to try out and B) they are sufficiently spherical. I'll hold off on the mod video so that I can splice in a section on the bearing tests and give you a shoutout for sparking the idea. THanks! I only have a .0001" anvil micrometer to measure with right now, and no 3-point jig, but I'll do my best to get decent measures to post

How is the PTFE in the throat? My KP3S was jamming a lot, unit I checked and was short by several MM, had to replace it.

Thoughts on the SecKit SK-GO(2)? Would you get one?
@AlexKenis

I have not used one, but the author seems to be continually improving the design. I don’t know how well stocked they are, but it’s still thought to get parts consistently right now, so check that first. Off the top of my head, I’m not thrilled at the zip tied belts or cantilevered screw pulley mounts, but people seem to be getting good results regardless

Why is there no quality budget linear guide options for 3d printers. V-slots are something everyone tells me is a nightmare. Chinese rails wobble or bind. Lineae rods get either wobbly or insanely heavy for a rigid guide (matters a lot in a corexy)
@AlexKenis
@AlexKenis 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I hear that. The quality is improving, but it is just not great yet and not consistent. There are a few places that are starting to test and guarantee the cheap rail specs, but they tend to mark up the price to about half the price of genuine Hiwin, which is a good deal but still not what I would call 'budget'. I'd love to try some of those out in a larger machine build, but Im stuck working in a spare bedroom until the lockdowns are finished, so maaaaybe next year (i hope). By the way, I saw your video on printer testing and agree about the filament colors and lighting. I like cyan blue or engineering grey under a hard light to accentuate the flaws, along with shiny black and flat white for specific things. Maybe I should pull down the next video and splice in a section explaining that so that everyone is not confused that I switched from black to blue halfway through testing...

You you figured out yet that genuine Sunon Maglev fans are both reasonably priced and the only fans that produce zero vibration? Sunon currently has the patent on magnetic bearings in fans and are well known for their use in enterprise IT products and home entertainment AV products to provide long life and high airflow without creating annoying vibrations/noise. In recent months certain 3D printer hardware brands like Mellow/NF (can find their official store on aliexpress) have been sourcing genuine Sunon Maglev fans factory customized for higher heat environments like 3D printing.
