I love hearing that you have your kids make their own lunches! I did too as a kid and as a college student I noticed that my friends who had experience making lunches were more confident in feeding themselves (and healthier) compared to those who haven’t ever made their own lunches!!

I think teaching your kids independence is really important. My parents also did that. As soon as my brother and I were in elementary school we learned to pack our lunch, clean our room, do laundry, cook basic thinks like microwave meals or how to make a sandwich, take out the trash.

Something I do, I use small sticky notes and label leftovers or prepped items with the contents and day they were made. (I also only use clear containers). So if someone is looking for a snack or to make a meal ect it is way easier. It also helps me to use things that need to be used as I am making a meal.

In New Zealand Cranberry Cashew Almond is called “cranberry trio” in most brands and my kids love it so much, and we have a dedicated pantry storage container for it! my daughter named it “party food” at 2yrs old and now it’s just Party Food to us for ever lol

One of the main reasons I enjoy your content is because you do guide your children to be more self sufficient. It seems that moms on youtube spend so much time being perfect....lunches, dinners, ect. that they forget they need to teach their kids to be able to prepare a lunch or a simple breakfast. Raising children is hard but putting in the work now to teach them to be more independent is so important to their self-esteem. Good job, mom.

Great video. I always as im leaving for holidays put fresh bedding on and washing baskets in each room to ensure suitcases get emptied easily and you can just jump into a nice bed. Re food I always find a couple of convenience things are great to have stored or save up your points on shopping apps for gifts cards to your fave takeaway and use them when you get home

We also love the Walmart brand honey bunches of oats!!! And it's so much cheaper then the regular brand. And we also have the prepackaged rules as well those are the to go snacks and my daughter loves the yogurts with the Lil candies and stuff in em to buts its so much cheaper to just buy the yogurt and Lil treats to add in the yogurt. And love that teaching your kids to be independent with making their own lunches. We have been doing this as well with our 8 and 11 year old trying to make them more responsible and independent thanks for another informative video!!!

Hi Mindy, do you have a video reviewing your Instant Pot Aura slow cooker? I'd like to know more about that, how it compare with other models you have already on the slow cooking function. I don't own a slow cooker (two pressure cookers though) and I'm thinking of getting one and I really like the idea of having the sauté function on the same pot. Thank you

I make my own breakfast sandwiches for my kids. Usually I'll take a Saturday and make a couple of cans of biscuits and then add egg, cheese, and either sausage or bacon. I wrap them up in press n seal wrap, put in the fridge and the kids just grab one and warm up in the microwave in the mornings.

Dad’s Taco Soup is a good pantry meal! We’ll try it this week… I have a chicken one my kids like, but this switches it up a bit. Thanks! My trick is to “brown” the meat in the crock. I put it in, frozen, on high. Break it up a couple times and then add all the other stuff on low a couple hours before dinner! Browning the meat used to always trip me up!

I used to travel a lot for work. I always ordered groceries to be delivered to the house a few hours after I got home. It saved me the time and stress of going to the grocery store and forced me to come up with a meal plan so I didn't end up with a refrigerator of "good intentions" which then spoiled before they were eaten.

Awesome video. I have learn to shop no name or store brand. Prices are rising in Ontario 🇨🇦 as well and making the switch has helped with groceries. Will have to look more into that cereal and see if its available here. One tip when i get back from vacation is i add another day to my vacation time. If its a long vacation i take all the clothes to the laundry mat and do several loads and come hone and just put it away lolol

Maybe your family goes through snacks so quickly it's a non-issue, but here in south FL, pouring things like cereal and pretzels into a tupperware container makes them vulnerable to humidity staleness in a hurry. I learned a trick to buy packets of food-safe silicone and slip a couple in there - one on the bottom, one in the middle, and it really makes a difference.

I was wondering if you could share recommendations for food storage for someone who has a very small pantry but a bigger family (5+). Maybe what kind of storage cabinet, shelves, bins, etc might be available to create a second pantry space either in the home or garage. Thank you!

Crystal, this is the first house I’ve lived in since getting married that had a pantry and I about cried when I saw it while we were house hunting, so I totally get the struggle! In previous homes, we invested in a few sturdy shelving units for the garage for canned goods, and I utilized lots of bins and baskets I could easily slide out of cabinets. Also, some baskets on top of the fridge for things like chips and cereal and bread.

Can you please show us what you end up making to go in the yogurt to mimic the Chobani Flips?? My girls LOVE the "flippy yogurt" as we call it and it's the only kind my oldest daughter will eat so if you come up with a cheaper cheat, I'd be VERY interested. The individual flips were $1.18/each at my Walmart and I can get a 12 pack from Sam's for less than $12 but still, with 3 kids and each wanting one for breakfast, they only last 4 days in our house!

(For me) kids in the kitchen is a hard FAST 'NO'! They can hang out, be my sous chef and learn how to cook, clean, cross-contamination, organize whatever.... I am not eating a piece of ham (or anything else) from a package that kids have had their hands all over, I refuse! Kids don't take hygiene serious enough or portion control serious enough! I would rather be a 'kitchen supervisor' and help them learn, then they can do that on their own when they're out on their own! (IMHO)
