You’re the first natural I’ve seen emphasize how easy it is to detangle and style your hair when the ends are healthy and clipped consistently. I grew my hair out from a short bob cut and once you have ends that smooth and seamless you notice a huge difference and it’s hard to go back. I notice many women who get short blunt cuts grow their hair out so well and I think part of it is because they experience those smooth, silky ends and keep up with the trims from then on.

Hello KM. When I stopped holding on to my terrible ends my wash day changed drastically. The ease of detangling and twisting !

I noticed my split ends turned into single strand knots, and then those knots ruined the hair around them creating more breakage. I think the sharp edges of the knot acts like a saw on all the surrounding hair. My hair retains length better when I get my ends trimmed.

ugh so true. I had gotten my hair cut before I moved to TN but I couldn't find a good professional stylist down here so I haven't gotten my hair cut in over a year. I miss how easy it was to detangle my hair, and how my curls popped as soon as i added product with no real manipulation. I'm getting a hair cut next week and can't wait

I don't have a strict routine, but I retain length by keeping my hair braided more than my hair being out. And washing my hair 3 to 4 weeks in between. I trim my ends as needed but probably once in the whole year. I know for me the less I touch my hair the more it grows. Also to keep my hair nice and soft in my braids I use a oil free wig spray. I never experience breakage when I use that. Like know what works for you but I prefer to not have too much of a plan because that stresses me out. But I'm trying to grow my hair to my butt within two years.

Your hair and skin... just WOW! Veiwers have to be careful following certain youtubers that put out trendy content to make money. You are spot on about genetics. I've had long hair since 2018 (not as long as yours 😂) but the ppl in my family tell me it's because of the creole bloodline on my dad's side. 😒 Never mind the work, patience, gentleness, long detangle wash days, and research that I've done to get my hair to this length. How come those creole roots are just now coming into play now that I'm an adult taking care of my own hair? I didn't hear nothing about me being creole when I was a bald headed child with an unhealthy relaxed hair care regime.😂 Thanks you so much for your tips tucking my mini twists is definitely my go to style. I had a set back last year and had to get a major cut from almost waiste lenth to all the way up to my neck. Currently my hair is sitting thick and full at bra strap length. I would love to see waist length by Dec. 2024.

I know you will be able to hit your goal in 2024. We all have them, I had a set back in 2017 which was my fault, wore my hair in a top knot for 4+ months.

Hello Heart of goal. I will see about the video. In the mean time, my diet: 1. I do not eat fried foods 2. I haven't eaten pork since 2007 3. I do not eat red meat or poultry 4. I am gluten free 5. I love salmon and snapper, that is really all the fish I eat. 6. I LOOOVE fruits and veggies: strawberries, grapes, mangos, sour sop, clementines, cherries etc. I love cucumbers, brussels sprouts, carrots etc. 7. My weaknesses are chocolate and ice cream 8. I do not deprive myself of anything, everything in moderation. There are no rules on vacation. If I wake up at 10 am and I want pizza that is what I will order. 9. I am in the process of removing diary from my diet, cheese is proving to be difficult lol. 10. I do not drink juice or soda, water and medicine balls, that's it I hope this helps.

I rarely (and I can name 2-3 KZfaq ppl I really feel comfortable with) rarely watch videos about "natural hair growth" however, you are a breath of fresh air. I admittedly have never been attached to hair. I grew and cut, especially in my relaxer day, and as long as it was healthy, that was all that mattered, and that is still the case in 28 yrs of being natural. I don't retain mostly because it was hard to find someone to trim natural hair consistently (military life), or even let you in their salon with natural hair, which is still challenging post military life. 🤷🏿‍♀️ Nonetheless, thank you for all of your tips, but especially the last one. Embracing and loving what we already are blessed with is the key. From there, taking care of it is your responsibility, and that goes for everything in our lives. You have a subscriber in me! 💙

Women like this lady right here, showed me how to take care of and grow my natural hair. The African American community has always been obsessed with hair length. I am no exception, (it's probably because we always knew we could do much better regarding our hair), but when I learned how-no relaxers, deep conditioners that I can make myself with rice water and shea butter, protective styles...I love these people ;), the ones that share their knowledge.

Hi, I have a few questions and, if you don't mind, please answer: 1- Do you still use your DIY Ayurvedic hair growth oil (with brahmi powder, avocado and essential oils) for your scalp massages. Or do you use something else? 2- How often do you use the scalp oil and what benefits have you notice from it. 3- How much longer do you plan to grow your hair / What's your length goal?
@KlassicallyKept
@KlassicallyKept 6 ай бұрын
Hello Sunshine: 1. Yes I still use the oil. I tried the Mielle Organics rosemary oil and then went back to DIY oil. 2. I use 1-2 times a week. For instance on Wednesday once or 2x Tuesday Thursday. I have noticed stronger hair, thicker hair ( the hair in my nape area is shorted than the rest of my hair) , and less shedding. 3. My goal length in the front my pelvic bone and the back right past my butt. Basically when I use foam rollers I want my hair to reach the top of my butt when curled.

Oh, Thank you for the explanation regarding hair growth and length retention. Now I understand why everyone (even in my own family) are always saying to me, "your hair always grows so fast." Genetics 🧬 🌟 I have no problem chopping my hair, off because it always grows back swiftly. I tell myself it's just hair. I have literally close shaved my hair so many times, sometimes to the point it was as close to bald as one could get. I enjoyed that change up. My hair currently is silver and down to my waist, but I do think I'll get a trim next week when I go see my wonderful stylist. I have been chemical free since my 40s and next year🙌🏾 I enter my 70s. 😊

I have naturally fine and soft hair and in the past I always experimented thinking a new thing would work for me. My last was Japanese hair straightening. Now, well for a year) I retired from experimenting because its never achieved what I wanted - healthy, thick as I can get, long hair. Since I have accepted and loved my hair, I've FINALLY gotten it to grow past shoulder length. My hair grows slow, but the reason its not long is to due with breakage, NOT growth. I've started trimming every 6 months (or more often IF needed), finger detangle ONLY (except for with my deep conditioner in), protein/conditioning monthly, hair protected, not playing with it and and now my breakage and shedding has reduced by like 50% at LEAST.

Great video. So glad I stumbled upon this video. New subscriber now. 😊 I too have hair that is past the middle of my back. I’ve been growing my hair out for years, natural, no relaxer. My texture, however is slightly different than yours, but I love my length. I agree with what you say about low manipulation of hair. I have found that washing my hair every 3-4 weeks has helped it grow. I also oil my hair with Alma oil, which is another Ayurvedic type oil used by women in India and can be purchase on our favorite online shop that starts with an A. I scalp massage at least 1-2 weeks with this oil, as it is very thick. So using very sparingly 1 time per week helps with growth and prevents breakage. I am now going to try the rosemary oil you mention to see if it helps with thickening. I will get back to you on that. Again, great video; you have gorgeous hair.

I know many people don't link to trim their ends. What I do that works really great for me is I dust my ends every 8 weeks. What I mean is I very, very lightly trim the ends where it's needed. Honestly, after I dust my ends, my hair is the same length as it was before I dusted my ends. Keeping my ends dusted, I never need a trim. And it keeps my end healthy and I retain more length this way.

@KlassicallyKept: Your hair is absolutely gorgeous, and i want mine BACK THERE, again. What is the DEAL, with so many people not knowing how to cut natural hair, now? When I was younger, the hairdresser that I had, since I was 3, could pile couch cushions in her styling chair, put me on them, after shampooing, and cut and/or style, wet or dry, whether she was straightening it, or it was being its Chaka-Khan-like natural self. And, it ALWAYS looked GOOD! Now, I haven't had a good cut, in over 20 YEARS! I've gone to salons, and even schools, where students and teachers have participated in the cuts, and it has NEVER turned out right. There have been a couple of times, when the initial comb-out seemed o.k., after what was supposed to have been a cut, or a trim, only to get home, and have my hair feel wet, for days, even with almost no humidity outside or inside. 'Even after re-washing, and attempting to dry -it would never feel dry. Having been instructed this was a sign of a bad cut, or damage caused by one, this prompted yet another cut, and more length lost. I am just frustrated. And, I wish that I knew how to cut it, myself. If ANYONE knows of someone, in SC, NC, or GA, who knows how to truly just do an all-one-length cut, identify and address any damage. if there is any, and then leave the hair the Hell alone, please share their info, Let me clarify something about the schools: I believe that the instructors may have provided good guides and guidance to folks, who did their own thing, once they were out of view -I'm pretty certain that was the case, at 2 different schools that I went to. At a 3rd, the instructors were practically nowhere to be seen, and the 1 that inspected my cut, who made a gasp, and did a lot of hurried whispering, should have stood firm, and made sure whatever she saw was corrected, before I left. Management at all of the schools were non-responsive. I didn't need a callback, but I do hope that they reviewed their cameras, for cues on how to proceed better with future clientele. I'm not trying to rag on any of these people. I just want all stylists to know that there is nothing wrong with informing a client or potential client that their hair type is unfamiliar to you, or one that you haven't done particularly well with. PRESERVE THE RELAtIONSHIP, of you ewant future business. Screw up somebody's hair, and, it's anybody's guess... I went to an appointment at 1 hair school, and 2 police cars were at the entrance, with lights flashing. It turned out that a lady's experience was so far from what she had requested that she went OFF, and the staff allegedly thought that she might be dangerous, hence the emergency call to the cops. : Can you guess her demographic? The staff wouldn't tell me which stylist she had. But, when I was seated with mine, and an instructor first said he'd been in the industry over 20 years, and had "never seen Z's" in anyone else's hair, I didn't want him instructing my stylist on my cut. He insisted on his expertise, and refused to call anyone else, then told her to pull my hair into a ponytail, and do a straight cut, across. THAT was when I learned that the client, on whom the cops had been called, had been her immediately previous client. I informed her that if she planned to follow that instructor's guidance, it would not be on my hair; I could leave, right then. I let her know the method my best stylist used, she followed that, and I ended up with a decent cut. I just don't understand what's going on in that industry, now. Like the channel hostess, my hair was mid-back length, for a long period, and I always got trims, to maintain it. However, something happened, in the industry, about 2 decades ago, and it has just been one bad cut after another, from salons and schools. My hair probably has over a dozen distinctly different lengths, from shoulder blade, to just below an ear lobe. There's no way in Hell, to make that make sense.

Yes, trimming for me is key to retaining hair growth. For many years my hair was down my back. The things happened in my life that got me out of being consistence with my hair care and it broke off greatly. I just got back into my hair loving consistence care 8 months ago and my hair has grown 6 inches in 8 months and my hair is the healthiest it has ever been. I am loving it. 👍😊

Length retention depends on how well you take care of your hair. Meaning keeping it clean, detangled & TRIMMED every 3 months. There's a so called professional named cyn doll who is very good at giving a silk press, but has no clue of how to properly care for Natural hair. She tells Bw that doing wash & goes, twist outs & air drying the hair causes damage. She has about an inch of hair & has never had long, healthy *Natural* hair. I guarantee she can't give one Receipt of her with long, healthy Natural hair. I wash a couple of times a week when I wash & go. I wear twists 1 week tops because I have zero tolerance for build 👆🏿. I trim every three months. My hair is thriving. I just made 4 yrs Natural this past November. Thanks for sharing....

I've been watching Cyn Doll as well. At the end of the day, every natural knows their hair and how it operates. I made a comment the other day about separating my hair with my fingers while shampooing. And then I use a comb brush from kazmaleje during deep conditioning. She commented back, saying, "Please comb your hair. You have 4 fingers and 2 thumbs. Over time, you're going to see damage." I just replied,"will do. " No point in making a debate with a KZfaqr. I know what works for my hair, so I'm not going to stress about it. I'm going to continue to do what works for me.

I’m finally seeing length! I do a wash and go twice a day week. Salon products to include shampoo and conditioner. Only product that isn’t salon based is my Wetline hair gel - cause the humidity is crazy where I live. I honestly don’t have issues with detangling / shampoo. My goal this winter will be to use my revair more and wear my hair in two / one long braid. Accessories- headbands, earrings, :) Braid out when in a formal setting. Tuck away - for length. 3c/4a high porosity, high density hair, mid back length(when stretched).

I love these tips and I love the fact that they are consistent across almost every healthy hair natural. It makes me wonder if our community is really paying attention because everyone says the same things but people keep asking, “how, how, how” like they don’t like the answer that they’ve heard in the last 7482876437848 videos, lol. *rant* I get that some people don’t know but you’re absolutely right, at this point, the narrative is tired. When anyone grows long hair (including black men), that’s just the way it is and it’s the norm. When a black woman has healthy and/or long hair, she’s a unicorn, it’s her genetics and other black women are just not able to do the same. How? You’re telling me that out of the more than 5000 mammals on this earth, black women are the ONLY ones who can’t naturally have healthy hair? The narrative is centuries old, first perpetuated during slavery (when they cut off slaves’ hair) and we’re still carrying it as truth. The strands simply grow around each other, commonly out, up, THEN down and are more susceptible to dryness and breakage so you have to take care of it accordingly. It makes hair growth feel slow and tiresome if all you’re looking for is length and not health. There isn’t a single respectable, peer reviewed, evidence-based study which demonstrates that black women, as a whole, are the exception to growing healthy or even long hair. There is, however, growing study that proves how centuries of Eurocentric standards, substandard ingredients/products targeting black women, cultural and economic barriers have all played a part in changing or altering the structure of so many black women’s hair, resulting in hair loss. As well as damaging their scalp, leading to constant breaking, disease, alopecia, dermatological disorders, etc. TLDR: there is no actual evidence that black women are the only individuals on earth who can’t grow long healthy hair. None. Zero. Genetics doesn’t have a wand and is arbitrarily waving it at a special black woman who can have what every other person has while the rest of black women are sol. Genetics isn’t a lottery ticket that a 1 in a million black woman will win; it’s not Oprah screaming, “you get good hair and you get good hair!” It’s just her “genetics” (really another colorist euphemism for “good hair”) is a lie from the days of slavery. /end TedTalk

Hi winiver77, you are just like me in that I don't trust many w/ my hair. I have fine 4c hair and I did go to Ulta to get a trim after a wash & blowdry, which I did myself on 11/5th. The secret to trimming your own hair is #1, do use hair shears & #2, don't trim while it's loose and the ends are curly because you can't see what needs to come off. I use to try & trim it while wearing 2-strand twists but NEVER do that - I've learned my lesson! When trimming you own hair, put in regular individual braids, braid it all the way to the end and then trim. This gave me be best trim ever! I promise you, you will not let anyone else trim your hair and you don't have to blow it out. Braiding it all the way to the end gives you the most stretch. Depending on the density of your hair, I find that you only need about 10-15 braids but do as many as you think you need. Blessings & Healthy Hair to you :)

17:04. I learned this the hard way. It was just recently that I found out Cardi B had some hair mask about 3 years ago. I bought almost all of the products becuase multiple KZfaqrs were stating they had some good results and I barely saw anybody have bad results. I was convinced. I used my high-power blender, put all that food in my hair, but my hair got mad at me. It's taking more than 3 washes to get all that stuff out of my hair, and I had to wait it out becuase I didn't want to weakened my hair by messing with it too much. I think I'm back to normal now. My hair was at my bra strap, which means I didn't need to follow trends in the first place, to just keep doing what is obviously working for me. Hair, please forgive me 🤦‍♀
