First of many dedicated wheelie sessions. I also find some suburb trails and see a beaver (maybe).

With that quiet exhaust, nobody gets upset with you practicing wheelies in an area like that. With loud exhaust, people get pissed. You had good respect to find a different area too.

I agree I think for this bike the stock exhaust is best. If I had a more dedicated street bike or supermoto I’d probably go aftermarket but I like how this bike can sneak around residential areas without issue.

Maybe just loop it once and get over the fear of it? Loud exhaust does nothing for performance and will annoy people. Especially home owners. I agree that quiet is better. Quiet and free flowing is the Holy Grail of exhaust but it's not inexpensive to buy them. The motorcycle aftermarket seems to love being loud and cheap or loud and expensive 😆 Side note, you can eat those Nutria. Nutria are herbivores and pretty tasty.

Don't sell yourself short. Those were nice wheelies. I sometimes successfully pull off a wheelie to lift the front to go over a small ditch or log on the trail, but most of the time all I accomplish is to lighten the front wheel a bit to help me get through/over obstacles. But I certainly can't wheelie with any real certainty, control, or confidence. I need to find a place to practice and get it down like you are doing in this video. I agree about keeping the stock exhaust if you're going to be riding near residential areas. There's no sense in pissing off the civilians and ruining things for yourself and the rest of us.

Thanks! I agree that being able to lift the front wheel (or at least lighten it) off road is an essential skill and probably all that most riders really NEED. But being able to pull off long wheelies is high on the WANT list 😎

Nice!...with all the respect take following considarations. 1.Finding an asphalt about (at least) 10 degrees uphill 2.On up hill you can practice rear wheelies 3.On down hill practice front wheelies(edo) also good for your muscles! 4.On uphill try first focus not on wheelie for many metres but instead just focus on quick (on max-edje) wheelie and apply rear brake to rapidly go back to earth 5.Doing this with 2nd gear and NO cluch ...will help you and your bike ...(on >10 degrres uphill) 6.After learning ensuring your fast rear brake responce (from 4.) you can then focus on doing much more meters...Keep in mind that if you are in low rpms then its more easy to apply balance movements (balance of body and balance of accelaration)..thats why you need >10 degrees... 7.Be well dressed and ready for accidents!!!(body and pocket) 8.Better take a 500 dollars 125 for that reason allowing you also to learn how to from 1st gear just 'wheelie' meaning just raise the bike on 1 tyre and stand out with your feet ..keeping it up....!!! (i dont know how you called the wheelie failure...when the rear fender touches ground..->standing out with your 2 foots!.)

Thank you for all the tips! I need to search for a spot that has a slight uphill - that makes it easier to practice for sure. My bike won’t power wheelie in 2nd so I have to use the clutch but I agree with all the other points you made.

@@atlklx5168 Thats why i wrote >10 degrees..The more degrees..the more will allow you to skip clutch....Learn wheelie on a lets say 30 degrees in 1st gear....peferably on an non asphalt non stone road....is all what you need...!!!(greedings from Athens/greece)

...meaning that the problem for wheelie ... depends on our torque... If have much low rpm torque (or just a good uphill) then we can stay at low rpm using acc-brake-acc-brake... If not have torque ...we need to learn to change gear 1-2-3 etc....but this is next lesson for us! To change gear we must be perfect on stage 1 !!!(quick break responce will need after/(same time) the gear up)

@@atlklx5168 And last to not make tire you or any other... 3.On down hill practice front wheelies(edo) also good for your muscles! This is the most important lesson !!! for all types of drivers in all vehicles...(full braking) Doesnt matter if you can do front wheelie (edo) in much meters/distance.. The fact that if you exercise on that...you will be able to brake more effectivelly...is the most wanted from some motorbike exercise...

I have the KLX300 dual sport. I bought dirt bike boots... something Tech 3's. I can't get my boot under the gear shifter. Did you change the position of your shifter to get your boot underneath it?
@atlklx5168
@atlklx5168 Жыл бұрын
Yes I adjusted my shifter up one spline so I could get the boot under. I think dual sport levers are always a bit lower since they are more of a street setup from the OEM. Also it helps to break the boots in as much as possible. I’m new to moto boots too and it was weird at first but now I’m used to wearing them and shifting/braking etc

When I first got the bike I was like there’s no way people are doing wheelies with this thing stock. I couldn’t get it dialed in. Then after a few hours of practice it’s very easy to at least pop it up and ride it for a few seconds. Hope to get better. Thanks for watching.

I feel like you can do a lot more with the dual sport. The SM is really cool but if you want to go on highways and on trails you can do it on the dual sport with zero modifications. The supermoto would limit your ability to explore. Also the power isn’t crazy so on the street it feels a bit slow but on the trails it’s perfect.

You seemed to be convinced that wheelies in 1st gear are pointless? I have the 300r and 2nd is good for when I'm moving, but if I need to jump a log or do a slow controlled wheelie 1st is the way to go, and the 300r has a much lower 3rd gear. Your coming out of your wheelie between 20-30mph, I feel that's because 2nd gear is so long making it harder to lift the tire, requiring more clutch, and making you have to chase your wheelie. I'm 210lbs and can lift the front in 1st gear with no clutch. Not trying to tell you how it is, just sharing what worked for me when learning to wheelie with my 300r. If you don't watch Cross Training Enduro already check them out, no affiliation just great tips for slow wheelies. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Zppnf7CEtK6dhmQ.html

They are not pointless for riding in general but pointless for me learning wheelie throttle control and staying at balance point imo. I’ve tried and it’s too jerky but on trails I do wheelies in first all the time to get the front wheel up. I don’t think I have as much trouble getting the front wheel up due to gearing or power but because I’m scared haha. I could totally loop it in second I’m sure. Thanks for watching.

@@atlklx5168 I apologize if I was putting words in your mouth, at the start you said WR DRZ and KLX you use 2nd gear and some clutch, making it seem that is the only way to wheelie. I live in Detroit where all summer it's dirt bikes doing 4th gear wheelies down the main strip so I get it. But in the tight trails here, that is very unpractical, and most those guys can only wheelie at speed, it's wild. I agree on the fear, I def tried to bail the first couple of times while screaming COVER THE BRAKE! I also understand the jerkiness which is why I practice in low gears, if you get good in 2nd, slow wheelies will still be challenging. Def a great video, I hope you take this as me sharing with you and not me giving you shit. I'd rather ride with you one day then to make you feel bad for what you're doing.

@@JacobSnover no offense taken at all. I get what you were saying when I was talking about wheelies in second; I was just referring to some “wheelie tutorial” videos I watched for small displacement bikes. Im also contemplating a little gear down (+2 rear, -1 front) to have more grunt on hill climbs which would also just make the second gear wheelies easier in general. This ain’t no highway machine so it’s an easy sacrifice for a few mph on the top end.
