I've been a fan of Jimmy Diresta for years. So when I said, "If you ever need a resin handle for anything," at Maker Faire 2019 and he said, "Yeah. OK. We should do a collab."
Well, let's just say I jumped at the chance!

in one of the episodes of forged in fire the contestants were tasked with making a knife blade from pieces of an old fire wagon in the first round. in round two they had to use something else fire related to make the handle and a couple of them cut squares from an old fire hose, dipped them in resin and stacked them onto the tangs of their knives. i thought that was a really neat idea

Scales are a specific subset of handle blank. Scales go on the sides of a full tang knife. A through tang knife handle, for example, would just be made from a blank.

I've been loving using JR dyes. I'm actually no longer using alcohol inks unless doing Petri dish because JR dyes work so well

I was worried at first there would be no talking. Had a weird feel to it. Like the chatting you usually do. Makes it feel like I'm working in the shop with ya

I'm sure it's been answered but I believe they are called scales because most are usually a rough surface that is attached to the sides of a blade handle to allow more grip, with some folding knives (and in my case, $5 folding box cutter) having an indentation pattern similar to the skin of a snake.

I liked the trick of pouring one layer of resin and spray-painting a stencil on the surface. I would have expected the paint to dissolve into the resin, but the visual effect of the floating letters is interesting.

Loving the longer hair! I’m sure it’s not by choice, but it makes you look younger and ( I’m sorry Mrs. Brown) hunky! Love your videos
