The thinner they get behind the edge, the lower those numbers tend to get

Thanks for showing different camera angles Mr Jewell, been wanting to see that on some other videos, like a 90° side shot added in then back to your usual birds eye view type shot. I understand you don't want to make things to hard to film. Just glad to see your videos in general and a different blade styles is always great to see. Cheers.all the best.

I don’t mind swapping angles, but doing that my hand can get in the way of showing what’s going on. It’s hard to get a good shot showing all the detail, and still display everything.

@@Jef yes I have seen you sharpening from the same side and would be interested in catching your angles. Maybe on those finishing strokes. Just a thought, thanks I understand what you mean.

@@Jef It's a shame. The community has lost a lot the last year or two. It's amazing to me that so many don't know about Ken, Cliff, and Stefan. There channels had so much information and entertainment in them.

Jef great video!! Very keen edge 🔥 The different camera angles were nice. I’m really happy with the addition of the 2.5k Gritomatic SIC stone. The friability of all the stones seems to be very low. Thanks as always for all the knowledge and thanks for sharing brother!!👊

Hey Jeff - very informative, thank you. Your videos are great! Wondering if you think the Pride Abrasive stones, that you’ve reviewed in the past, would be appropriate for Japanese knives like the one you show here. I have all of the grits Pride makes and I use them on my German knives w/out issue, but I want to know if you think they’ll work well on my Hitachi Aogami knives that I’ve never actually sharpened. Thanks!

I'd have to try them out to know for sure, but I can't think of any reason, why they wouldn't work. Currently, like 80% of my sharpening gear, they are packed away. If I ever dig them out, I'll try to remember to make a video with them, and one of these knives. The only problem I could imagine, is what I experienced here. That is, they will probably polish the main flat, and not give that kasumi finish, most are after. I found, for synthetics, the best option in my current line up, is the Suehiro stones. In particular, my 1k/6k cerax combo. Leaves a nice, cloudy finish

@@shawnsisson8190 Convex'd edges, are a pia to read. The red light can shine across multiple numbers. I tend to just divide it in half, and try to estimate where the middle is, and call it that.

I would love to see a natural stone sharpening on something like 154cm or maybe S30v. Start with a Washita then progress to your Jnats?
@Jef
@Jef 2 жыл бұрын
Eh, I don't like sharpening modern steels on Arks. They just cut too doggon slow. S30v, would be a nightmare.

@@Jef have you ever heard of Jasper whetstones Jef? I have one and have never looked back. They don’t wear, using silicone carbide paper you can prepare it to different grits, and they load up with steel which gives it a finer and more polished edge to the degree of steel in its pores. My shaptons live in the cupboard now. I only use jasper and diamond to reprofile.

@@Jef I understand. I think it would be interesting. I remember Cliff Stamp doing a micro bevel on K390 with a soft Arkansas in a video. I don't think it would be as bad as you think unless you were trying to change the angle. I conditioned Washita would probably cut pretty well. Maybe when a Bugout or a Native 5 need a bit of a touch up? Doesn't matter what stone or steel, we'll keep watching regardless. 👍
@Jef

No i have not heard of those stones. I’ll google em and check it out Do you have a link to their website?
@Jef
@Jef 2 жыл бұрын
Yea cliff did a micro bevel on an ark. Doing a full sharpening on the other hand is a different story. I had a video up showing one of jt’s knife lifes knives in m390 being used on an ark. It wouldn’t even cut the steel. I’ve sharpened plenty of blades on them. It’s not the best experience. They are so slow fatigue becomes a problem. Not to mention, the longer you are on the stones, the more your hand wobbles. Creating a very convex apex. Not that i mind that, but there are just better abrasives, to cut modern steels. For simple stuff, traditional knives, carbon steel, kitchen knives etc, they are a treat.
