Richard Harris' performance in this scene was phenomenal. Lancelot, whom Arthur regarded as a true friend and fellow believer in his vision for a greater England (and actually, the birth of democracy), and Jennie (Guenevere), his wife whom he dearly loved, fell in love and betrayed Arthur. But Arthur's dream was bigger than all of them, including himself, and he carried out his duty here by knighting Lancelot and trying his best to hide his heartbreak. Every move, every look was perfection. You felt such sympathy for all three of them by this point. And at the end of the movie when you see the look in Jennie's eyes, the fear that she alone was responsible for tearing apart everything Arthur had dreamt of and hoped to accomplish, you knew there was nothing to be done but for them to finish it. Arthur's dream was done.

This glorious scene shows why the movie won Academy Awards for costumes, production design, and music adaptation.

I fell in love with this movie and Richard Harris in 68. Still my favorite movie. My best friend from high school and I saw it about 6 times at the Old Paramount in Portland Oregon. RIP KING ARTHUR....aka Richard Harris. The only King Arthur for me!

I never forget my High School English class going to see this movie. In 1970 it was a good movie.

Richard Harris performance as King was astoundingly good and showed what a capable actor he became with great screen presence. It's hard to believe he played these roles when you see him without the makeup and costumes on chat shows in the early 1970s looking back.. The American audience in particular were like...err he's the guy in the films..really?? lol Harris ranks up there with the best of the classically trained UK and Irish actors of that golden era, alongside Oliver Reed, Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole.

Finally, somebody uploaded this clip! I've been obsessed with the music from this scene since I was thirteen. And that was a long time ago 😊 Yup. I listen to it a lot.
