It's not that power corrupts. Power attracts the corrupt.

It is both. Power absolutely corrupts people who did not seek it but are completely changed by it. This can be as small as a promotion at work or as large as a person "inheriting the crown". This is why they say "If you want to see a man's character, give him power".

The gender pay gap did exist in the past (1950- to late 1970-ties) in some countries women were paid less because their husband were the providers so women were also taxed more than men since they did not need to work if they were married. However the current pay gap in many western countries is due to the fact that men work longer hours, take greater risks (resulting in danger pay) and thus get paid more, and in some cases take on high stress jobs where even if they are belittled and more they stick it out and get promoted and then get paid more.

It's always about "violence against women." So it's perfectly fine for there to be violence against men. When I looked up some statiatics by the ABS, it said that 1-in-4 women experience violence from a partner and 1-in-14 men experience the same (no mention on what constituted "violence", though.) Yes, 1/14 is much less than 1/4 but it's still a very large number. It shouldn't be "violence against women" it should be just "violence", period. Teach girls not to be violent, too. When I was in school, the gender that harassed me the most (and some with actual violence) were the girls. But could I say anything? Nope because I had to either "man up" or "take it like a man". Could I retaliate? Nope because violence against girls is bad.

Winston thought, "By making him suffer," he said. "Exactly. By making him suffer. Obedience is not enough. Unless he is suffering, how can you be sure that he is obeying your will and not his own? Power is in inflicting pain and humiliation. Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing. Do you begin to see, then, what kind of world we are creating? It is the exact opposite of the stupid hedonistic Utopias that the old reformers imagined. A world of fear and treachery and torment, a world of trampling and being trampled upon, a world which will grow not less but more merciless as it refines itself.

And it brings up a valid point: when your rights are on the line, and push comes to shove, who are you going to depend on to defend you and your family? When government control gets out of hand bad things happen, and it's the people who suffer. The proof is in thousands of years of human history filled with tyrannical leaders who built empires on mass graves. American, British, Australian, Russian, Mexican, it doesn't matter what government, if you give them any control, they will take it all. "When you give em an inch, they take a mile." Keep the power in the hands of the people, even if it's by force, and especially if it comes to force.

The way I see it is all of our systems at this point across the west are in the same shape. You have two coffee shops (or more) in town but they’re both owned by the same company. One day you get a terrible cup of coffee at the one on the south side of Main State. So you shake your fist you say I’m never going there again and walk across the street to the other coffee shop. Then you get a bad cup of coffee there as well and walk out shaking your fist as you cross the road to the coffee shop you started in. Our systems are us continuously crossing that road for a bad cup of coffee thinking it will somehow be different this time. 😆

What you're alluding to is the phenomenon called "attribution anti-parity", colloquially called the "women are wonderful" effect, and it plagues western governments like an anthrax fog. Both men and women, on the whole, are evolutionarily invested in the advancement in the interests of women as a collective, AND in the disenfranchisement and moral sabotage of men as a collective. It takes a uniquely virtuous person, or anyone with above average intelligence, to overcome this impulse. Unfortunately, politics does not encourage any such person.

To be fair the LNP Coalition has it's own issues too. @@Novice9241 no, there would be MORE safety..... hence the whole maximizing peace part. Governments dont keep you safe, they keep you in danger. what do you think laws do? threatening people into submission defiantly isnt safety..... what do you think wars are for? defiantly not about keeping you safe, only the opposite. You will never be safer under a government, then in its absence. T3rr@rism will never keep you safe. dont fall for their propaganda.

@@spazemfathemcazemmeleggymi272 Laws and such is a deterrent for most crimes, at least where I Am. But with anarchy, it’s uncontrolled chaos. Anyone can do anything with no repercussions what-so-ever. Which means that those who can’t protect themselves get culled. Sure, it might lead to population with greater strength, but chaos is ultimately selfish. Besides, even if current goverments somehow collapse, people will band together, safety in numbers as they say. And with that safety comes leadership, which will eventually lead to New government, and then we’re back to square one. That said, the governments always run the risk of going to the extreme side of order. Sure, it might allow ”safety”, but at the cost of individuality which in turn stumps growth. Bottom line, I don’t see how anarchy is any better than an oppressive government.

The politicians and bureaucrats in this country, like many western nations in the past decade, all stand for high taxes, mass immigration, state intervention, monitoring and policing speech, green policies which give the state huge powers and chokes off the free economy and leads to basically Communism, racist and divisive policies, gender ideology which harms women and children, and all this totalitarianism is delivered under the veneer of 'kindness' and 'safety'. Voters need to get wise to these politicians and bureaucrats who rose to power promising progressive governance who have gotten bogged down in controlling speech and criminalize opinions to make it illegal to oppose them. We are a frog boiling slowly in a pot right now, how long til we realize? Or will it become all to late. The age of 'She'll be right, mate' is over.

As someone from the USA, I keep forgetting that the liberal party used to be considered "right wing", whatever you may consider that to be. Listening to you guys talk about this stuff with your liberal party, I can't help but think that US politics are replaying in Australian politics today, with the people who call themselves conservative being abandoned by the liberal party as it rushes to the left. In the US, conservatives haven't really moved further right on much since they were founded, though the more extreme parties on the right have done so. It's more, from my understanding at least, that the (let's call them) US liberal party has moved further and further to the extreme opposite of the conservatives. And that is what is slowly playing out before our eyes in Australia. Perhaps that's not precisely what is going on, but from a more removed point of view it certainly looks like it. Thoughts anyone?

The thing is that there is no point in emigrating if you no longer agree with the policy of your own country. Back then you could have just fled somewhere where it is "better". But the shit that the Australian government is doing today is happening all over the world. The only thing we can do is resist and not let ourselves be oppressed, only together we are strong. Escape is not the solution.
