Demo and explanation of the new KnobFS Plug-In from Sim Innovations that enables precise mouse-less and controller-free operation of knobs in VR for MSFS. It uses the Knobster hardware to make realistic tactile knon and dial inputs including the dual concentric push button knobs like those on the G530/G1000.

What actually should happen is that when you “touch” the knob in VR ( with mouse, controller, or best of all, hand tracking) that knob should be selected for Knobster input. Maybe a smart person could create such a plugin or Asobo or Laminar could make it an option n their sims. I don’t have the skills to do this but it would be a great addition for either sim.

Unfortunately I don’t think it will. Since you pay for Air Manager they wanted to allow for a DIY Knobster albeit slightly less user friendly than the plug and play paid Knobster. KnobXP and KnobFS are both free plugins so I don’t think the DIY Knobster will be an option. They want people without Air Manager to be able to use the plugins and that would require making a separate program to flash the Arduino. That would overwrite the current Knobster functions unless it was all combined into one plugin. Besides the guys at Sim Innovations need to make a living from their programming efforts.

Hi Russ, great video! For me it´s undoubtedly a discovery because, for some time now, I have only been flying in VR and it is really uncomfortable to use the mouse to move the knobs. You say that if there is interest you could cover this matter in depth in another video. Please do it, but if possible in a simple way because personally I don't understand anything about programming or how to edit the data. I have one more question, does it work with the GTN750? Thanks so much for your videos and please continue with that calm and didactic way

Hi, Russ. I just watched a KnobXP video by Mark Fletcher from a year ago, and in Xplane, he was able to assign Next and Prev buttons on his joystick to traverse the KnobXP modes, making the choice instantly available without the "blue to green to blue" transition. Do you know if this is possible with KnobFS in MSFS 2020? It would be SO handy, rather than having to select modes with the mouse, or holding in the Knobster button for 2 seconds. Thanks, Bill

Knobster is not a HID device but interfaces through a plugin with the sim. It was originally designed to work with Air Manager touch screen panels. You could take an encoder and connect it to an Arduino Micro and create an HiD device that can be used as you desire see. www.okdo.com/project/arduino-hid/?ok_ts=1667646295360

Hello, i tried this tool today in FBW A32NX with my knobster. But there is an old known problem with it: The heading (for example) always move one degree when i turn a dial independent of the inner or outer deal. When i turn a deal fast, the heading change faster (more steps), but its very difficult to set it exactly. So i change the .json for "AP_Heading" from "major_acceleration": 20, to "major_acceleration": 200, and i hope there would be 10degree steps. But this had no effect. Still the same.... Any advise?
@rbarlow
@rbarlow Жыл бұрын
Yes the acceleration is a max value but the actual input is proportional to the speed of the knob rotation. You could try a lower value and then it might work more like you desire with a moderate rate of rotation. No matter the acceleration value a very slow rotation will yield one degree per click. With a value like 3 or 5 you will be able to see the bug movement to get it in the approximate value you want to fine tune with slower clicks.

@@rbarlow Excuse me my briefness, Sir. So you need to check your audio levels in your video editor before rendering your content out. Your voice is way too quiet here. You need to apply some kind of normalization on the raw audio material (that's possible in video editors too), but a simple "peak-to-0" normalization is not sufficient. You should apply "RMS normalization", which you can find under this name or as "dynamic compression". (I don't recommend using hard limiting, that would be too harsh.) One more thing, if there is a threshold option, set it to -0.1 to -0.3 dB, to make sure you don't overdrive the audio. Sir, this is IMPORTANT, as people tend to click away, if the audio is not pleasing. If I can help, I'm here.
