In the debut episode of 90min's Added Time, the boys discuss Kobbie Mainoo and his meteoric rise at Manchester United over the last three months. They analyse his qualities in the United midfield and what he has added to Erik ten Hag's team at a difficult point of the season, and discuss whether Gareth Southgate's England should call the teenager up to the England senior squad.

@@kash7719 they have contributed the most players to top level divisions from England. Consistently produce stars and the club has the longest record for starting an academy product in the first team.

@@samwize28 Recently speaking in the last since the class of 1992, can you honestly say that a quality United player has played for England. Mainoo is a Wurlitzer player no doubt. But this is typical of Fans hyping him up, let him evolve into the season and then if he carries on then people can have this chat. Ps if Henderson, Philipps and Ward Prowse are selected before him it tells you everything about the England team structure

Facts. What is needed at such tournaments and for that level is game-changers. Star quality, not necessarily experience... especially when experience hasn't even succeeded in that regard. France had that with Mbappe when he burst onto the scene. Variety would serve England better especially beyond the starting 11. I would have Ward-Prowse in simply because he has a skill that can give an advantage and some of the others don't offer anything new really

Curtis Jones has played and being deployed in different roles within Liverpool squad. Scott and Harry are so negative towards Jones because they haven't seen him so much. He has taken up the role of Gini Wijnaldum role in the squad. Klopp knows already what Jones has done over 200 games under his belt

Southgate probably goes Henderson, Trent and Phillips but Jones, Maddison and Mainoo would be way better with Bellingham and Rice (both nailed on)

As a Man Utd fan I rate him highly. But I also want the hype around him and pressure on him dialed back a bit. Ridiculous to have an 18 year old carrying our midfield. I agree with Harry we need to sign someone of a similar profile next window. Scott tried play it off as a ten Hag masterstroke but it's negligent to spend 60m on Mount and chase Amrabat all summer to get him in then throw an 18 year old in the deep end.

Kobbie SHOULD be there. He is that last piece of the puzzle England has been crying for. He can give more freedom to Jude. Making the 23 player squad should be easy... Pope / Pickford / Johnstone / GKs (3) Stones / Tomori / Ben White / Harry / CBs (4) Trent / Walker / Shaw / Colwill / FBs (4) Rice / Henderson / CDMs (2) Jude / KOBBIE / Eze / CMs (3) Foden / Palmer / Maddison / AMs (3) Saka / Rashford / Kane / Watkins / Attackers (4) Total 23 players For one reason or another, there COULD be open cases for Rico Lewis, GORDON, Grealish, Loftus Cheek, Ivan Toney, Lewis Miley, Curtis Jones, Guehi and maybe Mason Mount. But you should avoid the ward Prowse, Kalvin Phillips, Connor Ghallager debate. They should all get ditched already.

Jones is 5 years older, obviously he has more games. There’s things Mainoo does that you cannot teach a player. Things that we see in Spanish and Italian midfielders, while also being able to be physical enough for the premier league. His level of composure, Curtis Jones will never have.

I’d argue against the point that England had no control of the match vs France at the WC, we had 58% possession & 16 shots (vs 8 for France). It was just one of those days when things don’t go for you

Mainoo has played 15 games, and he hasn’t had a bad game. He’s been United’s best player since he made his debut. Jones doesn’t even get in Liverpool’s best midfield.

@@aguilar666 Liverpool’s midfield is not better than United’s. Liverpool have never had a good midfield under Klopp. It’s all about the other positions. They’re an elite pressing team, and so all their midfielders are asked to do is work hard, they’re not gifted technically, or even great defensively. Liverpool is top heavy, with an incredible back four, their defenders and goalkeepers create more than their midfielders. United’s whole midfield would start for Liverpool. It’s the ability of the defence to play out from the back and the X factor and consistency of their attackers that makes them so great.

He looks like he’s got potential but I’ve also seen him be completely anonymous in some games like away at Newcastle were they couldn’t win the ball back at all. United usually have less possession than the other team and just play on the break so he’s not used to playing in a dominant team on the ball which England generally are.

I agree he's had some quieter games and that United are more counter attacking right now but from what I've seen his style would translate well into a possession oriented style. I think he's made for that type of football and he's showing his flexibility by functioning well in a team that isn't built to control games

how many times have we seen a young player burst onto the scene that didn't fulfil their potential. The ones that do are the exception not the rule. I think others are ahead of him and deserve an opportunity ahead of him at the moment. The physical aspect is where he looks not ready at the very highest level. He's very slight and quite slow especially when tracking runners. On the ball he's excellent but his lack of physicality can be exploited and top teams will take advantage of that.
