Let’s explore the deep south of Egypt - a thousands years old ancient Kom Ombo temple. Secret knowledge & Sobek: the crocodile god of ancient Egypt! This ancient sacred site dates back to the Ptolemaic period and features the most breathtaking, in my opinion, architectural symbol of the era - beautiful columns capped with some of the most exquisitely crafted lotus-, papyrus-, and palm-shaped capitals.
Let’s get a closer look at the temple’s precincts and its unusual layout. Let’s get to know more about the crocodile god - Sobek, one of the most complicated ancient Egyptian theology, and mysterious relief depicting, according to some, “ancient surgical instruments”.

Nonsense, Ptolemaic architecture? examples of which are not found in Greece. Nonsense because she says " probably Marcus Aurelius". Either you know or you don't, it's not just her but Egyptologists, whose work she repeats, not her fault. If you are a Greek or a Roman and you want to be accepted by the local Egyptians as their King or Queen, what you don't do is make all the local Egyptian workers unemployed and bring in a Greek or Roman work force to build the temple. What you most likely do is commission and pay for the work to be done by the local builders. To simply say that this or that was built by the Greeks or Romans MAY not be completely accurate. If these temples were built in the Greek or Roman style as you find in Greece or Roman then the "built by claim" would sound more plausible.

When I was in Egypt, Kom Ombo was the first temple I visited. I couldn't believe my eyes...and I still can't. The amount of work that it took to build and inscribe defies belief. Yet, there it is. This is the best video on Kom Ombo that I have seen. Thanks ASG.

Thank you! The quality as well as the quantity of decorations in Kom Ombo is truly breathtaking. May I ask how did it happen that the Kom Ombo temple was the first one as usually it is Luxor or Giza.

Hey AS !. Not been to well lately so it has taken time to catch up with things. The Ptolemaic period is the one I know least about, so really cool to watch this. I will just give a big shout to your amazing camera/editing person for a great job. Your narration is wonderful. You could read me a Harry Potter book and I would listen all day. @@dandrechesterfield5411 I have done so many times including some of the photography, audio quality, and script content. I've been a fan of the channel long before it reached 1000 subscribers, and I've made suggestions to help improve content. She knows where I live (half way around the world). She knows some of my background. And, on occasion we email each other. If you watched this channel she hasn't ask for one penny of money. She HAS asked for one thing and that is to keep the compliments coming. If she objected to the content of the comment, she has the option of shadow blocking me. Plus, I believe she is married. I haven't dated anyone in 30+ years and have no intention of starting. BTW - she's more than just a tourist. She's an amateur historian. Have you ever heard a tourist give that much detail in a video?

Always beautiful! Thank you for sharing with us. Who does your filming for you? That was an impressive well but quite freaky human remains were found in it! The relief wall where the kneeling god is, was that meant to have panels above showing his head, or was it meant to be this way? I love how the little sparrows have made nests in the crevices of the temple!

Thanks for such a beautiful comment :) my family member is responsible for filming. Do you like it? :) The king as well as the god in the panel had their heads once. We can't forget that the temple is more than 2000 years old and endured many damages :)

The intrigue (for myself, at least) is the portrayal of the Animal Kingdom to represent deities - that such creatures seemed to hold Theological imperatives over the Egyptians, is fascinating - & dare I say, the kudos & respect offered to the animal world - pre-humankind demonstrates this, unequivocally. I consider the Egyptian Monarchies showed far greater deference, to what we now perceive as the 'natural order' (placing human life above all else on the Evolutionary Tree). I cannot be alone in wondering whether or not the Human Race is deserving of such a mantle - the capacity for destruction & annihilation (surely) places us well below any sensical rationale. I digress. I (also) wonder, Irena, have you considered presenting a video on Bastet, the Lioness/Cat Goddess, & if so, would that be sometime in the near future ? This video was a superb example, but then, everyrthing that I have watched thus far, has been superlative.

The crocodile is an auxiliary symbolism explaining the conception of a new body by the soul without the use of a sexual organ. In crocodiles, the sexual organ is not visible, as if it does not exist and conception occurs very quickly and imperceptibly, this feature was used by the Egyptians to explain the rebirth of the soul.
