Hey thanks for the tour! The part you're talking about at 6mins in, is the reduction gearbox. It's got gear oil drain and fill plugs to change the oil every 3 or 4 years.

It's not sealed for life like some transmissions? The gear oil change isn't on the maintenance schedule.

@@porkercon no, definitely not sealed for life. Kona recommends every 50k or something.. But check this vid out. The mechanic is replacing the reduction gear under warranty because of noise... He recommended changing gear oil sooner! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mrOcocqBvKvGgWg.html

Applicable to all Hyundai & Kia EVs - both H. & K. state a reduction box oil change at 40,000mi to 70,000mi depending country. But crucially, should be changed every 10,0000mi or maybe sooner. Every 10,000mi, the oil comes oil with forbidden glitter. And that’s together with a magnetic drain plug. If you wait to the stated oil change intervals, you likely to have much reduced reduction box.

You're almost spot on with the "german and japanese" thing. Most of the powertrain is engineered and manufactured by Siemens AG. The ioniq and kona EV are really just Hyundai playing around with EVs by assembling them with OEM parts, outside of the chassis and suspension they don't seem to manufacture a lot of the stuff that actually goes into this car. We'll see with the Ioniq 5 and EV6 how much of those car the Korean companies are actually manufacturing themselves.

Do you have LED headlights on your car? Or is your trim the halogen headlights? Are you happy with the light output (at low beam & high beam)?

is there aftermarket panels made from steel or aluminum to replace the plastic under the car? what about the battery casing?

Perhaps the brake rotors need to be made of alloys that are resistant to corrosion such as adding nickel to the alloy. Maybe just adding something like plastics or wax to the brake pads so that the rotors wind up with a protective coating. Maybe cathodic corrosion protection, the car is electric so if the current flow is just right, the rotors shouldn't corrode. We've had the same problem with our Altima, we simply don't use it enough to keep the rotors from corroding.

That just seems sooooo stupid. No way I’d listen to that nonsense, of course I’d have to undercoat it yearly and tbh it’s worth it rather than paying for a pan extended warranty.

I do not understand the cars are undercoated from the factory . There 12 year warranty on the car every year as part of the service the paint protection is checked. I asked my deal is the car underseal answer was yes. So why would large nation like Canada or USA not protect there citizens cars are expensive

You need to know about aluminium. It's an extremely reactive metal it oxides on contact with O2 it's the grey oxide layer that protects the metal Al below that white powder is where the oxide layer has been breached and it reacted with the chemicals around forming a new layer of protection. That why aluminium last so long. The rust of oxide layer is the protection. The oxide layer very unreactive and stable. Making aluminium a great material
