First. No excitement and That’s because the competitiveness of the format is boring. Snake-eye is the only deck that can win, no rogue or other good creative decks can win with it running around.

Konami official tournaments are a joke. Tournaments aren't publicized well, aren't covered well, and when they are, the tournament is run in a shoddy fashion, BS rulings affect entire events, or games themselves are brought down to "draw your floodgate" after "draw more hand traps". Been putting more time into Pokemon events and I've felt much better about my time and money going into a game. Konami gives a shallow performance, each and every time, barely enough to call YCSs a "tournament".

I went to YCS Sydney and I can say that I'm sure the reason Konami didn't want to do any coverage of the event is because of how poor the venue was. I have been to convention centers all across Australia and I can name 10 better than what we got. The Accor Stadium (Where the YCS was held) is mainly used for sporting events, so the upper floors which the event was held on weren't really made for such events. If the issue was finding somewhere that was available to host the event I can kind of understand but I have a feeling it was a money issue of trying to put in the least amount of money to get the most out. As a first timer going to a YCS I was hoping for a handful of proper vendors (Not just people with their binders for trades) but the venue only had two which was disappointing. I have a feeling it may have been an issue with the space not being able to fit more than those two. On how no one knew about it, I think if you weren't going to Australian locals regularly, you wouldn't have found out that there was a YCS. For me, I accidentally stumbled onto it when I was looking for concert tickets. I was shocked I hadn't heard anyone talking about it anywhere. Zero advertising whatsoever outside of chatter at locals. Truly the Konami moment of all time

Just a reminder that starcraft 2 tournaments OVER A DECADE AGO during the infancy of esports in the west had better coverage and production than yugioh tournaments in 2024. 0 excuse.

As someone who has been to every YCS in Australia, it’s always been very disappointing when I find out the one YCS Oceania receives every year is either not streamed, not covered or both. Now in the past, YCS in Australia have had live streams (I think 2-3 times if memory serves me right) however most of those times they weren’t streamed on official yugioh channels but rather someone else’s. Additionally I also know the reason for why they don’t stream down under anymore and it’s due to Konami having a reluctance/refusal to do so. Reason being is that the last stream that was held in Australia, a technical issue occurred whereby the stream somehow was interrupted mid session to show some dudes wedding , which from what I was told by the head of Konami’s Oceania division made them very upset as they felt it damaged their image as a company.

Honestly, hand traps and expensive yet poorly thought out support has made yugioh unbearable. When the average players at locals play meta and tournaments are purely an engine met with 25 hand traps in deck, there's no fun. It is boring and expensive.

Remember how last year's World Championship were played in classrooms? The Chicagoland area has a massive playerbase and yet they wouldn't provide enough space for the players so the judge had to do split rounds to accommodate the extra players instead of turning them away. They're taking away from their events and it shows.

Sadly when it comes to Australia, or Oceania in general, Konami seems to have forgotten us. We get the lowest budget, we get less events, and overall, the product distribution can be quite terrible within the scene.

Konami seems to have this weird ability to make 2 steps in the right direction only to then make 11 in the wrong direction. At this point it is not even suprising to see them not do something that they should have done. Hopefuly they will not repeat this kind of mistake. I mean its not like they are one of the richest companies in the gaming/hobby industry with the most profitable TCG in history as there poster child...

We haven't had coverage for Australian events for years. They just gave up on doing anything. Saw a Konami shirt guy there taking photos but also can't find those photos anywhere. Also fun fact: a bunch of links on the Konami site re main event schedule and other details don't actually link to anywhere but just refresh the page

Despite the obvious flaws with Konami giving a shit about Oceania, it was still an amazing event. I was personally there and so many of my friends went. Although none of us made it to top cut, we loved every part of it. I also got to meet Yacine there. Great guy

I don't follow yugioh closely anymore, but having good tournament coverage is so good. It's nice to have a good registry that these things happened. So many events from the past we wish were covered but rely on memories of who was there, nowadays this happens less with everything being more shared online, but still.

Support locals not ycs. Locals fuel the community and konomi could care less about its player base.

As an ex sydney player i can give you an idea of why this event went so wrong, it could be many factors but here are some dot points 1. One of the major ots has changed owners hands and isnt as close with kevin the konami rep for oceania, the original owners of said store used to help with running the ycs. 2. To konami ycs sydney(and the one melbourne) has been a finacial flop so much so the first 4 events we were given exclusive ycs mats, after talking to kevin myself about the game and general things hes said to me next year were thinking of bringing a master of oz(chumley style) australian mat for participation, so next year comes around, no annoncement of a mat, no clear communication about the pre reg location ultimately to me the writing was on the wall 3.maybe konami thought we'd cut some costs by not broadcasting the same mirror 8 times, not knowing that fish and other rougue strats would come out of knowwhere and make a top cut. I hope this clears it up a bit mega cap 😅

Rhis is why i am just a Casual Player. There was a time i wamted to be competitive but honestly by the time passed, it became so boring having the same Handtraps over and over again, not having anither playstyle of YugiOh ....so i no longer go to tournaments or locals like before...just play with my friends without handtrapas and have fun. No more.

Man, Pokémon do it really good for their coverage and streaming their events. And to remember Pokémon do three events at the same time (VGC, TCG, GO). My assumption is they don't want to spend money on the events and they don't care because no matter what, people still consumes the game and goes to the events. No matter high card prices on the secondary market, short printing, poor prizes at tournaments, people still enjoy the game and sustain the franchise. One more thing they should do, and probably won't happen, is that they should pay a proper organizer company, that has the credentials to demonstrate they can organize an event of this size, and not letting this task to a LGS owner. Many events in Central and South America are horrible because of this. Last regional in Mexico City was a nightmare for many players.

Just remember, the Konami handling outside of the US is a different Konami than the one in the US... also it's not even the same one that handles the OCG. Blame Austria.... not sure why maybe laws or something? But gotta know they're playing by different rules over in Sydney.

Part of the issue was being able to participate in the event itself, previously you could just rock up on the day, pay for your entry and submit your list and you were in, this year however they switched to using neuron to register for the tournament with limited spots available and you had to buy your ticket online using your neuron ID many months before the event. This also meant that if you missed out on getting a ticket (that sold out very quickly) for whatever reason (say neuron wasn't working or you couldn't link your ID), good luck playing in that event (unless you managed to go in on the day before the event and get your name down on the short list in case people didn't show. The venue itself is ok, but as someone else mentioned, it's a dedicated sports stadium, not a convention center, so it's not the best venue for something like a YCS. It also didn't help that attendance was just down in general (only 2 vendors, usually there's 3-4) and there weren't as many players due to the aforementioned ticketing/neuron issues and just being another tier 0 format in general for our YCS didn't help. This is the second tier 0 format in a row for us (on our only YCS of the year) and like the third or forth tier 0 format out of the past 5 ycs events we have had.

I took a break from the game because the negation and hand traps sucked the fun out of playing. For my decks, I play practically zero negation boss monsters because I want to have fun. With hand traps, I only play defensive ones such as those that end the battle phase. I remember duels in which there was constant back and forth and I didn't know who would win, and even if I didn't win, I was satisfied because it was such an exciting unpredictable game. Hand Traps and negation took that away and Ash Blossom is my mosted hated card because it does both.

Considering the fact that Yugioh players spend hundreds if not thousands on decks, transportation, a place to stay and food just to go to these tournaments so they can possibly win some playmats, booster boxes and a prize card that may or my not sell. Is it really a surprise Konami thinks it's ok to shaft the player base? At this point, Konami probably doesn't need to do coverage of these tournaments. It's not like it would hurt their sales all that much, if at all.

Konami also could add the Duel Links ban list because its why Duel Links you see creative decks not just 1 even Rush Duel is now seeing more than just Dragon decks. Duel Links ban list system also would create a huge change because onmi negates are limited to 1. Monster Reborn is limited to 1, your are force to choose what you want. This ban list system will change everything completely.

This just sucks dawg. Like they aren't hosting any EU YCS they don't give a crap about the Australian YCS, its almost as if they are trying to make the game die. It just gives me a bad feeling about the future of the game

If this event got live coverage, then a fourth of the players attending would have gotten disqualified. I have several friends who all attended the event and everyone that I know of encountered a deliberate stall player at some point in the event and the judges didn't do anything when they were called. Only one of my friends made it to the top cut. Rip Ycs Sydney.

I went to the event for both days. I found it annoying that we had to watch the finals from 5 tables away as they made a ring around the final match ups. I understand they didn’t want other people looking at players hands etc. I wish they had a big screen so the crowd could watch as there was no atmosphere really cause no one could see what was going on
