Join Kevin as he sits down with actor and best selling author, Cary Elwes, (The Princess Bride, Robin Hood: Men in Tights) as they discuss his career and new book. Cary chats about his teenage self driving Roger Moore to set, the fact that Fat Albert was his only connection to American pop culture, and how Andre the Giant's fart mimics an earthquake.

This is the first time I've watched a 2-hour interview and thought it was too short. Elwes had a fantastic career and is an engrossing storyteller. Kevin and the gang did a great job as usual.

About 2 hours gets us to 1987. Sounds like we need about 8 more hours of interview to get to the present day with Cary Elwes. I'd watch it if it is half as entertaining per minute as this was. But seriously, they need him back for round 2.

Lovely. I wish you talked just a little bit about Men in Tights tough. I love the movie to bits. Such a great storyteller, Cary is. It would be wonderful to hear his stories about Mel Brooks, Roger Rees, Amy Yasbeck, Richard Lewis and Patrick Stewart!

This was a great interview but a missed opportunity. I'm sure we all loved the Princess Bride anecdotes but to spend almost 2 hours mostly on the one movie considering that Elwes has had such a long and interesting career working with the likes of Mel Brookes, Bob Balaban, Morgan Freeman, Nicholas Cage, Denzil Washington, Anthony Hopkins, Francis Ford Coppola and so on, as well as his early career in England, there was a goldmine of verbal riches to be had.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. The standard format on a 6 minute TV chat show appearance is to talk about anything under the sun and THEN plug whatever the guest is promoting. You would think that an online talk show appearance (of nearly two hours!) would zig and zag all over the place and not restrict itself to one topic.
@HawksFanMattMan
@HawksFanMattMan 9 жыл бұрын
Exactly what I was thinking. I don't know if maybe there was some kind of agreement made beforehand that they would only talk about The Princess Bride, but Elwes was so funny and interesting that I was really hoping eventually they'd move on to other topics. I can only imagine the stories he must have from Robin Hood: Men in Tights. This was one of my favorite episodes in a while.
@nonnidreams
@nonnidreams 9 жыл бұрын
I think it was a mutual decision to keep it to the one movie. Since they both never veered away from the topic. But I've noticed all the shows are long and have a lot of other content. So the actual time the guest speaks is about an hour and half at the most. Maybe less. I didn't measure accurately. Generally this shows don't do a look back at a lifetime of movies in an actor's career. You have to watch a lot of Talk Shows, Panels, Radio, Magazine interviews. And someone asking all the right questions. Which doesn't always happen in one interview. Or read an autobiography to hear all those stories. If they decided to write one. Which I think Cary Elwes definitely should. He's got a great memory. And tells the stories so well.

A line from the movie I've used rather frequently is "Have fun storming the castle!". Such a classic. Ah I'd love to get the assistance of writer (book or screen) because I'm poorly organized. Not a "writer". But I've got some true stories!

I simply cannot say enough wonderful things about this episode. Cary Elwes was fascinating and, as always, Chat Show, provided the best set-ups, questions, and accompaniments to the great stories (and terrific Elwes impersonations). However (isn't there always an "however"), as a baseball writer I must correct Kevin on the Dave Righetti story. Rags was not a rookie when he pitched his July 4th no-hitter in 1983, he was a rookie in 1981. The no-hitter occurred in Righetti's 68th MLB appearance. In the game against the Red Sox, Righetti walked four and whiffed nine winning 4-0. I apologize for being a baseball nerd and I hope I do not come off as a pedant (a person who annoys other people by correcting small errors and giving too much attention to minor details). Finally (I know you presumed that this would never end), happy birthday to Wallace Shawn who today is 71 as inconceivable as that may be.

Don't be mistaken, Bill. You're not annoying us by correcting small errors or giving too much attention to minor details. You're annoying us by writing a full paragraph about shit no one cares about and then pretentiously including definitions of the unnecessary words you use inside parentheses.

I am 43 and I never saw this movie until a week ago after seeing the Rob Reiner interview on this channel. I immediately pulled up the movie on IStream in Kodi and watched the movie till the end and I thoroughly didn't like it. Maybe it's something you have to see as a kid. I saw The Neverending Story as a kid and I still like it to this day for reasons of nostalgia.

I like this show, but I get the feeling that, with very few exceptions, Pollack doesn't seem to know anything about his guests, other than the greatest hits everyone knows. He's the most disinterested interviewer ever. That's, I guess, the good thing (congenial, broad appeal) and the bad thing (frustrating, unnecessarily superficial) about the interviews.
@basehead617
@basehead617 7 жыл бұрын
That's true at times, however I feel like in general he knows a TON and someone makes a 'dossier' of research for him for the interview where he usually goes all the way from like childhood through the career. This time wasn't really thorough though. There are people he knows more about, but I definitely think that's an unfair characterization. Samm also knows a lot.
