Mike Bickles first victim was 14. His second was 15. His third was 19. I am deeply concerned that KV’s first statement was so out of touch with the criminality of what’s going on and that his apology though well stated, still lacked a real understanding of the seriousness of the allegations. We address his apology around minute 35. We also address his mindset regarding SA in another sermon in around minute 38. This statement had me on edge. Hopefully new listeners can understand and appreciate the seriousness of the allegations and the nature of apostolic discipline found in the New Testament epistles regarding unrepentant leaders.

I'm a mainline Christian , so I'm not from the same theological tradition as these Pastors, and I'm not a social conservative in terms of ideology. Having said all that, Christian forgiveness refers primarily to God's mercy as it relates to salvation. It does not entitle anyone to a leadership position, fame ,fortune , or a personal relationship with someone. As noted the Pastor appearing in the video has since apologized for not addressing victims of clergy misconduct in general as it relates to Ministry in general terms. (as he should have) In any case , a Pastor should not be calling someone an idiot for asking him for guidance on serious issues. ( That's not a Pastoral response ) I think that was the excellent point Christina was making. Speaking in general terms, and not about this case; a Pastor or anyone else in a leadership position should not allow their friendships to interfere with their judgement regarding their duties. Yes, people of faith have always been involved in politics as citizens of a country. That doesn't mean a country is a church, or that the purpose of politics is to make people pious. The purpose of the Church is not to be a vehicle for political power either. I'm speaking in general terms, and not about any case or person.

Put another way, I have never asked for a job or a position in my Church on the basis of having repented for my sins. That concept deals with my salvation, but being forgiven of sin in isolation doesn't qualify me for a vocation. I'm not mechanically inclined, so I shouldn't be fixing people's cars .( I'm not applying for jobs as an auto mechanic for that reason)

I think you’re missing much of what has happened here with Kris. He is not obligated to share his thoughts or opinions on MB if he himself is processing it. And I believe you are incorrect in saying people ask ‘because they care about your opinion”. People don’t ask publicly to Christian leaders only because they care about your opinion. It’s many times so many ask so they can slam you down. That’s an immature response. IMO. Are you here to help a situation or to harm it? That’s my question to you.

I agree, I too am older, 63, and believe the way you do. I just got a new book called the Atlas Factor, by Lance Ford. I have just started it but he is saying that the way we have done church in America is not the way the new testament church should be done. Way too much authority has been given to the pastors and the whole structure needs to be changed.

I rarely comment on videos, i will today. I grew up in a time when the church blamed the woman and children for their abuse. You shouldn’t report except as a last resort. I’m just wondering, when are men going to speak on protecting women. When you have sexual assault as a child your morality becomes skewed. You don’t know what is normal or right because you are told to be quiet. You become over sexualized as part of your identity, because of the abuse. The man think the abuse can continue because there are no consequences

Our pastor at our previous church used to go on rants like this all the time ( till he ran off with the church secretary, leaving the church far behind ) .and so after all these years, I have a really low tolerance for this garbage. I'm so tired of these guys that are well payed to be Shepards ...standing up there beating up the sheep from the pulpit. The "idiot" statement particularly bothered me because, why can't he understand that people that LOVE Mike Bickle are struggling to process this mess and look to leaders like him to help them sort through it all. A pastor would do that..., instead of calling someone an idiot for seeking out that help from a trusted leader. I feel like if he can't handle these kinds of questions from people, then he probably shouldn't be a pastor. He seems to have this belief that we shouldn't have any feelings about this, that we should just sit down and shut up, and not ask any questions. But people are HURTING over this, both the Victims as well as all the many other people that loved and trusted MB/IHOP. I'm so tired of these guys that call themselves pastors but really are more like CEOs of some huge corporation!! We need real pastors. Thanks for calling this out for what it was. We appreciate you!!

The commentator wasn't just asking a question. He was accusing Kris of condoning what Mike Bickle did because he didn't make a statement yet. But also Kris has a good point. It would be super strange to make a public statement of your disapproval of someone when that person is someone you have a relationship with. It's like if my sibling did something wrong, and I then posted on Facebook about it. It doesn't make sense. I would just talk to my sibling directly. I don't need to save face in front of my people for the mistakes of someone else. It's weird.

Actually this is a big problem with the Apostle & Prophet movement… the leaders are not pastors, they are self proclaimed Apostles and Prophets and claim to be the “restored leadership” of the church. They don’t act like Shepards because they are not. They act like leaders of a businesses and sell a-lot books and services like “leadership training” or “marketplace apostle resources.” They encourage you to attend conferences, and classes…which all cost money. They are more like a brand, not a Biblical pastor who cares for the sheep. I am saddened that people in this movement do not have Shepard hearts at the top levels of leadership.

I’m so grieved by the state of the charismatic church. Our leaders are failing us. They preach accountability but fail to demonstrate it when it’s someone from within their group. I’m starting to wonder if the western church is in a 40 year wandering period, do we literally need to wait until attitudes die off to have our course fully corrected? Just recently, Brian Houston had another twitter “accident”. It starting to feel never ending with these leaders. Thank you both for your voices of clarity and for taking a stand.

We may well hear of more such situations within all denominations. Maybe we need to look to and rely on high profile and other leaders less, and rely more on God for ourselves, provided it's not out of arrogance or anger (as I definitely would have done at one time). I can honestly say I'm finding reading my own bible regularly, and going to Him over everything is very comforting, and He's helping me to understand this business better, how to respond, and live my life. I still respect genuine spiritual shepherds, but just don't rely on them as much as I used to. Maybe it's about maturity for some of us, though it does concern me that baby and less mature christians could be very adversely affected by hearing about these things. If only these leaders were more responsible (Ezekiel 34 v1-11, & rest of chapter). ❤

One thing that in my limited view is missing from the conversation in this situation is the lack of discernment in the body of Christ. SOOO many people with "prophetic" gifts, including those in the AG, supported, enabled, promoted, and followed a man who was not qualified in any way, shape, or form to be hailed as a mouthpiece of God. We need to look at ourselves and our role at not discerning not just the right from wrong.... but also what is right from "almost right".

I have a hard time believing anyone at that level wasn't aware whatsoever that something was off, or were they just blindly following him vs protecting the sheep they were overseeing. I would like to see all those in leadership that have done things similar to Bickle, be brought to light and face what they've done. Also cases brought forth and those convicted be officially registered sexual offenders to protect others.

I did 3 years at Bethel ssm, the reason he says his life should speak is because Bethel believes apostles and prophets are more like kings, not shepherds. It's kind of like, "Moi???? How DARE you have questions about MOI?!" I don't say that to be mean, it's true. Also, [editing out the name for now] was pastoring a revival group while I was there, and like the second week of school he came out and told his revival group his "testimony" about how he had an affair with a student and committed adultery against his wife, but was restored to his position. I was SO GLAD I wasn't in his group, I would have felt so uncomfortable and unsafe. It always bothered me. [EDIT: I think he's right that women should refuse to sleep their way to the top, women who do that hurt other women by setting the precedent. I think I was there for that service -- Bethel is California, remember, and actually they have film industry people in the congregation and a lot of students are encouraged to go into Hollywood. I think it's important for context that you know there are a lot of people at BSSM and in Bethel who aspire to fame.]

As I continue to listen to KV’s words, I think he is speaking as a man who takes offence to the “Me, too” phenomenon. Women have come to a place where they are realizing that they have been abused at times. It’s been in the news. There is no reason to take gender sides. Wrong is always wrong. Right is always right. To be so bothered by the fact that women are saying, “Enough” (to abuse) as to bring such words and ideas from the pulpit is peculiar. Maybe some men will also say, “(it happened to) Me, too”. If any of these instances are true, anyone can claim “(it happened to) Me, too”, and they would be right to, all together, ask for repentance and restitution. In the Church, though, these things (abuse and sa) should never ever happen. We should be the place of God’s holy people and healing. We are waiting for our leaders to stand up and do what is Biblically right. Speak up for those who have no voice. I’m thankful to God for Blaise and Christina. Like Deborah, in a time of God’s calling, they are willing, along with Brother John Erving and some others, to speak what is right and just.

I have never been a part of the larger charismatic movement, though I did have a mentor who was a part of the movement and who led a small group of us through Mike Bickle's Song of Solomon Bible study years ago. But what you have shared here is so powerful and so incisive. Thank you for remaining faithful to Christ with your hearts and lives and for speaking out on this very important subject here. Per CNN (and the Urban Dictionary): Urban Dictionary's top definition of a simp is “someone who does way too much for a person they like.” Other definitions on the crowdsourced online dictionary include “a guy that is overly desperate for women, especially if she is a bad person, or has expressed her disinterest in him whom which he continues to obsess." Perfect description of Steve Strang's views.

In KV's apology statement, he starts off with "| shared a message regarding the need for accountability, transparency, and true repentance from leaders, especially in the Church." I feel this is an incredible mischaracterization of his message. It was more like a defense of those in ministry because of their lack of feeling safe with confessing "struggles" because they might get fired. This all points back to the problem with the Western church, full of structures, hierarchies, titles, paychecks, honorariums, stipends, platforms, microphones, "followers", NDAs, and more. Jesus is building His church, but the old, man-made institution is going to be de-constructed in the process.

Yes! Thank you! The message was mostly blame shifting the secret adulterous double lives of religious leaders onto…….us! And the only example of accountability he gave was men asking each other in the hallway at church how they are doing and they secretly know between them that it is related to porn and adultery. I guess it’s a start? Mike Bickle would’ve obviously just lied in an accountability structure like that.

I think what we are seeing is that more ministries operate under spiritual manipulation than we realize. The hyper grace is also alive and well and has done more damage to victims in the church. The church usually leans toward the predator or the perpetrator. Victims are not cared for or shown love especially when they have been hurt within the church. Now Is that the God we want to portray? A God that only loves and favors the predators? !

I am baffled that the Christian leaders have learned nothing from the Rise and Fall of Mars Hills podcast (patterns), and the Ravi Zacharias scandal. But having seen the top leadership elsewhere and what they were like behind closed doors, I am less suprised at the same time. Keep speaking truth! Also, I used to like Kris Valloton, but I've since seen that his teachings are unbiblical and he's arrogant and fast talking in the way that Dave Sliker is. I truly hope he repents and speaks for the speechless.

If you don’t follow a man’s ministry and know anything about his life, then why do you care what that man thinks about this issue? I still don’t think everybody in the world needs to state an opinion or “take a side.” I don’t really want to know what any man thinks. I want to know truth only - and what God thinks. Moreover, it disturbs me that the body feels a need to take SIDES. I don’t think there ARE sides. You don’t have to hate Mike in order to support the victims. And you don’t have to disparage victims to love Mike. As Christians, we are called to love & pray for ALL parties with hope that ALL will find healing, deliverance, and reconciliation to God.

That’s so true! I agree. God is in the ministry of repentance, reconciliation & restoration! I feel the victims have not had much concern or love from the church. All these victims are courageous for coming forward, and The Church of Jesus Christ needs to stand behind them and stand with them!!! I don’t understand why so many Pastors & Church leaders are being so silent on the matter! And I know Gods word says we are called to love, & to lift a brother or sister up when they’ve fallen. Maybe not back to ministry, but in seeing them restored to Christ. Too much division in the church. We can do better. If you are worried about what someone is wearing at church, then you have a problem. Your mind is not focused on God! But let’s not blame women because maybe you shouldn’t be zoned in on what they’re wearing..maybe you have the problem. It’s in no way to do with their clothing. It’s everything to do with a dark heart whose intent is sick!!! Let’s stop blaming victims for what they wear because maybe they had jeans on & a tshirt! Nothing provocative about that! Or maybe they had a nice decent dress on! Nothing provocative about that!!! It’s about someone who’s very sick minded with sick intent!! Period!! Keep your eyes on Jesus instead! Praying for the victims that they receive all the love, support & tools they need to overcome, recompense, & provision, & that they receive healing, & restoration. Pour out your love & healing, & peace, on them God & give them strength to get through this difficult time, I pray, in Jesus name!❤🙏

Even if I'm trying and apologetic and do a bad job sheetrocking a wall, I'm going to get let go. How come leaders get to just say any old thing from the platform or pulpit and keep their jobs forever? Maybe this guy's apology is sincere, but who cares? Hello Blaise, Christina and everyone! Welcome to Bethel culture where everyone is loved and we try our best to see the best (gold) in people. I am a BSSM 2nd year graduate and saying "I love Mike Bickle" is aka saying "I love sinners and won't condemn them/throw them to the sharks". This is how we are taught to look at things. It creates a blind spot to victims unfortunately. Honestly, Kris theology is completely opposite from MB. Bethel does not live by a doomsday end time prophecies because that causes people to not live well on earth (eg go to college, work, be a light in the world). We believe in victorious eschatology, where things are going to get better and better. There's no need to pray for Jesus to come back. Fasting is optional. Everyone is encouraged to find a proper job. Kris does not know the IHOP culture, neither did i. We celebrate that we can still be friends with IHOP and cross pollinate despite the extreme differing beliefs. We never learned about Song of Solomon, or the church as the bride. Our focus was on Holy Spirit. So yes, Kris is out of touch. Bethel folks are out of touch too.....we often say we live in a Bethel Bubble. So the crowd laughing is coz they really don't know. I tried engaging with an ex classmate but it was impossible. Sigh.

Totally get it! Thanks for sharing 🙏🏼 I have followed Bethel and Bill Johnson (and some of Kris’s stuff) off and on for the last 15 years so I get it. I know the partial preterist foundation for victorious eschatology and I subscribed to it for a time. Our main issue is this: the statement is his first on the subject and it’s on the heels of a ped0 allegation for Mike Bickle. 2 of them actually. So the statement is out of touch. And so is the apology in my opinion. She was 14. Ruined her life. But yeah…. i get it. The crowd is mostly unaware and that’s in my opinion the fault of the leaders. Thanks for your insightful and kind comments here. We do appreciate it!

You didn't ask me, but as a parent whose child was there for years, I can tell you that the destruction is great. Our child is still a strong believer, praise the Lord, but much damage was done to them, and to our family relationships. Thankfully, God is repairing those, and restoring the years that the locusts have eaten. The Lord will reward a heart toward Him--even with a reprobate at the helm of an organization, but I'd counsel this young man to get out. Learn a job/skill, where he can bless others, not beg for money. Become a member of a healthy local church.

I get why you guys are upset. Totally. Bear with me. To me, he called them an idiot not because they asked for a statement but because they accused him of being complicit for not making a statement. That's completely different. One is a request and the other is an accusation. But even within the same clip he says he realizes he shouldn't have provoked the situation more by calling them an idiot. I understand wanting to protect victims, totally. He should definitely be more careful. But just because someone fails to mention something in the midst of his comments doesn't make the guy a sympathizer for Bickle. He even said in the two minutes clip, it's a tragedy what's happened. He was not making a comprehensive IHOP statement. He went on a rant at the beginning of his sermon. Would I have done it that way, definitely not. But that doesn't mean he doesn't care about victims. As far as I can tell, the audience were laughing at the way Kris handled the situation on Twitter, not at the victims' situations. Just because you are passionate about protecting the victims doesn't mean we jump to conclusions and assume the worst from a two minute clip. Context matters.

And also in his own personal life, he has shared many stories of how he had made mistakes which he couldn't see until others and God opened his eyes then he was like "omg" and was devastated. He can get arrogant, but he is also quick to apologise and repent when he realises his mistake (it may take a while depending 😂)

How was his first public statement so unclear and so powerless? The first victim of Mike was 14. The second was 15. The third was 19. How do you get that info then come out saying “he’s a brother and I love him.” That’s all fine but what about the fact that he has been a ped0? Seems like calling the guy or girl an idiot when they likely just want to know why you as a prominent charismatic leader haven’t said a word about it. And seeing silence as a problem doesn’t make the powerless pew dweller an “idiot” simply for seeing it that way. Anyway- I get where you are coming from but this statement and this take from KV failed to recognize the reality of alleged criminal activity by MB and the ruining of the lives of young girls who are now women who have lived with this abuse and its effects. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate your tone and the way you expressed your thoughts here.

@@WakeUpandWinPodcast of course. Ive appreciated your commentary. And I love your passion. But I feel strongly we should not imply people are complicit merely because they fail in their messaging. Even if leaders have failed us, it does not mean we presume the worst about other leaders. I understand the sense of urgency around the situation, but there is no rule that any leader has to make any statement about anything. Its presumptuous to think that silence equals being complicit. Also, who is to say the pew dweller is powerless? I understand it's one person against these huge ministries but I'm not going to presume the culture at bethel is this way just because of failings in other places. I'm not sure how much Kris has been following or knows regarding the situation. He might not be as educated to what's being shared around the Internet. And even then I still don't see the red flags being highlighted in your video when you listen to all he said. If he was taking an hour to make a statement Is one thing but all I see is him using the situation as an example for an opener to this sermon. Again I would not do it this way. But that doesn't warrant accusations. Even if we still disagree (I'm sure we do haha) I just desire care and fear of the Lord when talking about others in the faith. Do not bear false witness is a legit thing. And even if we call leaders higher let's watch with an objective lens and not through the lens of all of the evil we've been inendated with.

I was a Hollywood actress and I went to Bethel, though I never slept with a producer. Probably because no one asked. (Plus, I was too tired from working my other job as a porn star.) Seriously, I did have a few “opportunities” shall we say, but because I was a comedian I made way too many jokes at the wrong time. (Most men can’t handle it when a woman is funnier than they are.) And yes, Vallotton is out of touch. But hey, Bethel has a “film school” (the only “Mountain” out of the 7 Mountains they seem to give any real import to) so they think they have the scoop on the inner workings and mindset of Hollywood. (Yeah maybe like 50 years ago.) And at the risk of sounding like an LA elitist and a shameless snob, he’s also a former mechanic from Weaverville (super hick town) so his cultural exposure is, shall we say, rather limited. (Nothing wrong with hicks…some of my best friends skin squirrels and go ga-ga over grits.) Seriously, the bottom line in all this is megachurches are an easy breeding ground for narcissists along with becoming a potential cesspool of secrets and lies. Can’t help it…. It’s the nature of the beast. It’s all political, as it tends to get once you reach a certain size. I’m sure Bethel didn’t start out that way. I say it’s time to adapt a wholly different model of how we as believers “do life” together. (And yes, I think it’s weird calling pastors “papas too.” If they are “papas”, aka fathers, they are absentee ones… certainly that’s true in megachurches , where, ironically, it’s the only place they’re called that, as far as I know.) I’ll never forget when Bill J. came out on stage after being gone due to the Covid lockdown and said, “ I love you all…I miss you all you so much”! “We love you too, Papa Bill!” came the thunderous response. Uh, yeah, I thought to myself. You don’t even know me… or have even met me. And I don’t know you. I mean, I’m sure your bodyguard knows you better than I do! (I may be missing something, but did any of the apostles have bodyguards?) So I’m sure as Hellman’s mayo not going to beam with love and call you “Papa” while basking in the warm glow of the apostolic anointing. Okay, I know I’ve been holding back, here. Should I tell you how I really feel?
