@Kim, right! Sometimes people use tubs to swtich locations - the ones with 2 flaps that close at the top. Guineas get fairly large so hand carrying may only work for a little while. With a few alterations, the brooder can have a cover on and around it, as well as a floor (linoleum!) and perches for each type of bird, and can be the private, safe place for the birds. You can even link it to the multilevel coop and have BirdTown! 😂 :) You two are doing great with them! Yep those owls are a bit scary. I recommend having a guardian goose as well. You'd not have to have a cover on the semi-free-range enclosure. Justin Rbodes and Sow the Land raise meat birds -Justin has guard geese in an un-roofed, portable enclosure and the geese I have seen on his channel do a great job scaring off winged predators. Best to you on your farm! Enjoy your lovely patio - I bet your "indoor" dog likes laying on the mat next to your chairs! 😊

Spruce looked like such a big boy while he was walking along the fence by himself! But he looked like a little baby again when he was standing next to Hercules! I thought it was great the way Herc immediately stepped in to stop Mario from ramming Little Spruce again! Herc is a good boy and he knows Spruce is too little to take care of himself if the bigger goats attack him. He was just doing his job, Dad! And he did it well! It isn't always just about predators - sometimes it can be about bullying! Your place is really looking good - the hard work the two of you have done is evident - it must feel very gratifying when you look around and see how much you have accomplished! I love the sitting area you have created - I am sure you will receive a lot of pleasure from it. The animals are all looking well and you are acclimating the Turkeys and Guineas to their Hoomans. Don't forget to take a break and cool off and hydrate while you enjoy some lemonade and surveil your domain!

It is 1 1/2, Should have gone with 4x4 so much sturdier, you could have also extended your shade cover. 1 1/2 are a lot less expensive. Put up a patio cover a few years ago myself. You live and learn, today I would do things a lot differently. Going to build a coop and run, have too many critters to free range. Although free ranging would help with the ticks. Maybe Herk can be trained to run the entire property, that would help to keep the critters at bay. Or get donkeys. I have owls too, but they are the least of my worries. You two are really moving along. Working so hard.

Herc is Spruce's big brother. He will always protect Spruce until Spruce can protect himself. Mario will just have to be reminded by Herc about that from time to time. I don't know if Spruce will ever get as big as Bruce, since Spruce's mother was so little, but Spruce will definitely get bigger than he is, as he is growing every day! That little milk dance with the tail wag is so cute! The barn owls are beautiful birds, but they do know you have tasty young birds on your farm. The owls might have hungry babies of their own to feed, so your job protecting the guineas and turkeys is very real. Shannon, it was so fun to see you handle the transfering of the birds. I am proud of you for overcoming your aversion to handling the birds and getting the job done! I also am so amazed when I see how much work you both have put into Shady Acres. It actually looks like a home now. Shannon and Kyle, the rug and chairs and lights strung up look very cozy, and a great place to sit and enjoy your property. Blue is becoming more accepting of touching her. Your patience and gentleness is paying off. That is so nice to see. Best wishes to you all!

Hi Kyle and Shannon. Turkeys like to roost up high just as the guineas do. Shannon, as you wean Spruce you might want to start gradually diluting his milk with more water until you are done giving him a milk bottle. It does make the transition easier. You two are doing very well. Best wishes.

You two are doing so great!. You do make it fun for all of us who have already been there and done these things. BTW when you move them back to the shop at night....take advantage of the time that the coop is empty and each of you get on one end of the coop. Lift with your knees and move the coop to another location. The purpose for putting them in there is to let them be in the fresh air and to let them peck through the grit and grass. Look at the present location. They have about eaten all the grass and there probably are very few bugs there. However, they have fertilized that little plot of land.!

Looking at coming in the front gate and down the driveway is such a huge change from where you started a year ago.. Everything looks like a park area with the green being kept so clean and nice.. Unless you saw it from the beginning with all the work you had to do you just can’t imagine how two city kids (I’m 67 so I can say that) have worked your butts off sweating and using parts of your body you didn’t even know you had tearing down a house and a barn and cleaning up around all the vines and trees and ground cover of tall grass and weeds.. All the while battling the many mosquitoes and wasps and ticks and other creepy crawlers including snakes everywhere.. Shanon you have become a ninja at any project you have tried to do and you wouldn’t stop until you were satisfied with the end result.. Kyle you tackled projects bigger than you thought with the digging of trenches to the shed for electricity and water for the pump to work then more trenches to where you were planning to put your trailer so that required electricity and water run not to mention all of this was definitely not something you were familiar with so lots of trial and error and high stress not mention all the digging you had to do before you could even get started… So with all that being said Kyle and Shanon you have grown so much and more confident since beginning the journey of your property and home a year ago.. All you have to do is take a look around together and know you are home where you belong on the property you chose to be.. Shady Acres is amazing Kyle and Shanon Doss ❣️🐕‍🦺🦮🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐓🐓🐓🦃🦃🏠🌅🌄🧹🪓🪚⛏️🛠️🧰🪛🔧🪜🚰🚽📪❣️✝️💟💯🇺🇸

Hi guys, a simple solution for moving your birds around would be a small plastic dog carrier and just load them in at the brooder carry them to the day pen and unload them as a group. Especially if you are going to have multiple groups that are going to be raised to help with the tick problem. Then as you establish their home runs , follow the new design that Grandpa set up to let them free run in certain areas. If you add a goose or to each group per free run areas . You have winning combinations and can establish large free run areas with the safety home night lock up pens. They make the fowl electric fences and rollaround fowl trailers. Go back to Grandpa's house and check out his new set up to let his chickens free run and they know where to run for safety. Love to watch your videos.

That was very interesting to watch Hercules put Mario in his place for going after Spruce. Lumber is never the size they are listed. I'm not sure as to why, but I learned that from my dad many, many years ago. Also I learned that when you are putting any wood in cement you should always make the cement higher around the wood so any water will run off and not pool around the wood so the wood won't rot. Therefore will last longer. Just a little FYI. And lastly, I am so proud of you Shanon for doing the birds. That was awesome. Kyle will you please give her a hug for me and tell her how good she did? Thank you.

My daughter holds our 16 chickens on theit back like babies to move them. I hold them upside down by their legs. I can carry 4 birds that way. Ours has finally gotten out or the ugly teenage dinosaur stage. That's what my daughter calles it. Blessings to your both.

Hey y'all, I am willing to bet the turkey you picked up first is the male and the second one is a female. I have heard that on the Hidden Heights channel also about the goose as an alarm and protector.Jason calls them the alarm system on Cog Hill. Lots to think about!

Just an FYI, it will do the birds good to have different thicknesses of perches to roost on. It’s good for their feet. What you may think is to fat or to skinny, as well as just right is a good combination to have 😊

It might be a little thing but it doubled your living space. It looks awesome. Throw up a couple tiki torches to control the mosquitos and you got it made. If you are okay with it the bats will take care of the skeeters. My Dad caught an owl somehow and it was very large. It didn't stick around long. I think it may have been injured and once healed said Adios.

You're definitely going to need a bigger coop and run as those babies grow. You won't be able to let them free range until they are adult sized. And owls can and will hunt during the day too. And then there are hawks and eagles. Have fun! 💖💖💖

Great job Shannon, Kyle u were so patient while she was learning how to handle the baby chicks. Are u going to make a covered run for ur chicks so the aerial predator can’t get to them? Every day u learn something new. God bless u and urs.

You need a goose. They will alert the smaller Guinea and turkeys because they're always looking up. That being said your birds are pretty cute❤

Shannon you made a great and cozy place to sit and relax it looks so nice. Good job for your first time moving the chicks. Wow, owls they like the new buffet so you better think of what to do i hope your birds get real big and maybe get a goose to grow up with the chicken's like others have said on Cog Hill Farm they have Cheese to watch over that flock he seems to like being with them. Well thanks for a very interesting video I love watching all that you do.

Next time you make the concrete post pots, may I suggest put PVC pipe into the concrete then slide the wooden poles into the PVC. That way you can remove the wooden posts for easier storage in the winter. I would expose the PVC about 2-3 feet for added support for the wood posts.

Shanon saying "you're okay." Is she talking to the bird, or is she reassuring herself? 😅
