I am old enough to be your grandfather, and I take my hat off to you. I have supported a number of young people who took their own paths, some with success, others not so much so. It would be naive for everyone to think they can follow in your footsteps. You obviously have an unusual talent for what you do and if not unique, it is quite unusual. Many young people try to teach themselves a trade and wind up making a mess of things or becoming a hack.

This young man is a helluva technician with an incredible attention to details. I was not expecting to hear that he was self-taught with NO formal training whatsoever. Huge props man! Love the channel, just wish you showed more of the actual assembly processes.

I worked at Caterpillar. Started in the shop. Moved through various positions and spent 16 years in the Engine Division. Worked on the 3208/3406 rod lines. Made the first 3406 rods for the tech center. Very high tolerances on them. Became a supervisor eventually. Worked closely with the assembly lines. Amazing engines.

As a long time industrial equipment mechanic, I appreciate the attention detail you put into your rebuilds. I Have not seen many who mark their bolts as the go through each step of the build. If I ever needed a big Cat engine built I would absolutely look into having you do one for me.

I usually watch some pretty low key tube stuff........my buddy and i can fix pretty much anything. Ive got two engineering degrees, and he dropped out of RISD. This has become my second favorite channel next to some guy that fixes outboard motors on boats down in Australia. Both brilliant mechanics/physicist type "kids". Both truly understand the machine they work on. Too bad we dont have any doctors like these guys these days.

I am always amazed how those CAT engines start nd run so smooth, I always expect them to have mad Vibrations on the ground without the engine mounts.

some people can go to school and not learn anything worth shit, some people can bypass and learn everything hands-on, props to you sir. I work with a lot of the former as a mechanical engineer and always appreciate the latter. Your vids are fantastic too, both for content and just the deadpan delivery.

The brass washer is a classy solution. Felt washers are cheap so I can see why a manufacturer would use them over thousands of liners, but your fix makes perfect sense from a machinist POV where brass is often used to protect parts.

I also just left my railroad career two weeks ago but to work for CAT; something I’ve always loved being around and I’m proud to work in the heavy equipment world. I worked for not one but two railroads and I just had enough and decided it wasn’t worth the 40 years myself; I’m very thankful for my experience there and it taught me a lot but I am so excited for the new chapter ahead, doing something I’ve always genuinely enjoyed! I hope you have better luck with IPD parts than I did. My experience with IPD is from 20+ years ago so hopefully they have improved. I’m retired now. Started my CAT engine career in the late seventies with the 1693 , 1676 , 3406A , 3408 ,3306 ,1100 series , 3208

As a journeyman mechanic I can say I like your videos.

I don't know why it is so much cooler to see an engine run on a stand (any engine), but there is no doubt about it.

The last 5 minutes had me belly laughing. I bailed on CSX after two years. I looked around at all the miserable pricks around me clinging to that pension for dear life and I was miserable myself. I made the right call. They culled the mechanical department down to nothing shortly after I left. You definitely made the right call obviously you found your calling
