A short walk around of my latest diesel project. This is a old Kubota G4200 riding mower powered by a 10 HP twin cylinder water cooled Kubota diesel engine. 1335 hours on the tractor. Still runs strong. Just needed some TLC.

I just picked up a G4200H...I think the "H" represents the hydrostatic transmission that mine has. Do you know how to find out the model number of the engine since I need to find a service manual for the engine and do some work on it?

Yes H is hydrostatic. 3 cylinder engine since you need a little more HP to drive the hydro transmission. The engine model is stamped on the engine block on a flat milled spot under the injection pump.

the 2 cylinder models come in hydro static as well, you have a z430 engine in yours.

How would you like a 12 hp, instead of a 10 hp ? Because everything i look up says, G4200 (non HST) was produced from 1984 to 1990, 12 hp, Z430 engine. look for Z430 on side of fuel-injector, just below where fuel-lines come out of injector. Very top plate of injector, on the outside edge. Congrats ! You now have a 12 hp. Remove one wingnut under front of seat, lift off plate, and you will see transmission dip-stick and fill-cap.

You are correct this is 12HP. I ordered piston rungs recently and they where to small! Should of paid more attention.
