I heard that Togashi was offput by how much the animation studio changed HIS original art style. The 1999 is definitely more his art style.

I think the executions match both series' styles and tones respectively. Both versions of this scene are absolutely legendary in their own way.

You didn't read the manga then if you think Hunter x Hunter 2011 is too faithful on its adaptation of the manga. The 2011 version really messed up the story about Kite. In 2011, Gon didn't know Kite's name nor recognize Kite until Kite told Gon. In the manga, Gon already met Kite in chapter 1 and knew his name and face. Kite already told Gon in chapter 1 about Ging and the hunter license so there's no way Gon would not recognize Kite in Chimera arc. The 2011 didn't even show Gon and Killua saving Konta's son. Konta is the bear, a friend of Gon. This happened in the manga. Only the 1999 version showed it. Besides, the 1999 version is actually true to the designs of the manga. The 2011 version change it so much. The 1999 version only added 5 eps fillers. It's not that much. Besides, the fillers in 1999 are good and it was Togashi who made them while helping with Studio Pierrot that time in 1999. I know because I was able to catch up watching the 1999 version in early 2000's and I've been following Hunter x Hunter since the prior to 2011. So, which really is a faithful, huh?

Being faithful to the source material isn't necessarily a good thing. Mangakas aren't gods who can do it all. Some scenes can be shortened or extended to great effect. Like the coin tossing scene in the Zordek mansion that was over in minutes in 2011, but was several times longer in 99 and probably one of the more memorable episodes for me.

I agree with everything you said expect the song. Using Mozarts Requiem would’ve made this scene 10000x better, it just fits the dark and noir vibe it has.

no. the art is just crude unrefined modern anime, while this one has the tense atmospheric cold magical feel, and the overall classiness and maturity of the 1999 anime compared to the 2011 gives this scene a nice touch, because it didn't seem forced. In the 2011 version, they just randomly threw in cheesily conducted classical music into an anime that has much less of the seriousnes, that it needs, to pull it of convincingly. So yeah, I am fully convinced from my understandings and careful considerations that the 1999 version shows more depth, with comparison of the more watered down try-hard modern anime style. I appreciate and love the 2011 version for what it is, but the 1999 is a very subtle and precise anime with a beautiful flow.

Music, art and atmosphere, as well as character voices, are much more fitting in the old one. I don't want to go into detail anymore, I've done this comment too often now. Also, your statement regarding cowboy bebop... I wouldn't let anybody touch HxH as it was in the 1999 similarly to how you cowboy bebop stands as a classic. Sorry that I'm not able to discuss. I'm just tired ya feel? Ending note: To be honest. I actually think a series like Cowboy bebop can definitely be remade. It's style would suit itself quite alright to the more modern production studios, and since its a highly regarded series, high tier people will probably work with it.

You actually see the guy's inside poured out in 1999 version though and generally speaking the censorship used to be alot more loose than today's anime in 90s.Look at the recent Jojo's adaptation for an example of it.

Absolutely no chance unfortunately. Studios phased out of using cell animation in the mid 2000s, we haven’t seen an anime drawn on cell since. I don’t think there’s any studios that still even practice it as it was costly and time consuming, aswell as relatively unethical due to all the paper and paint usage. A lost art really, and i think other studios in the general industry like disney did similar. It sucks cause cell produced the best artwork :(
