| Kyokushin Karate - The Power Back Kick from Close Range |
Kyokushin Karate is well known for its hard hitting kicks. Given the rules that fighters compete under in this discipline, they need to know how to set up power kicks from close range.

Kyokushin always interested me. Maybe I can also apply this in my Muay Thai training? Thank you! 👍

The boxing in Muay Thai is far superior. But you can try sparring without gloves and some of the kicks, which are unpopular in Muay Thai: back kick, heel kick, axe kick and some other crazy jump kicks.

combining kyokushin's kicks and conditioning to muay thai is one of the best decisions you'll ever make in your martial arts hobby lmao.

Ok, but in what scenario is your opponent just going to stand there allowing you to punch and kick them?

Clinch exit Back against the fence Landing shovel hook then landing the kick All it takes is someone great in Kyokushin to rise up and people like you will recognize it

you enter once with 1-2, exit you enter again with 1-2, exit you enter again with 1, fake 2 to the spin kick. If you can't reliably enter, throw a 1-2, and exit, you have bigger problems than setting up spin kicks.

Watch kyokushin tournaments. They have the rule not to punch in the face and the principle to stay hard and eat many many body shots. That's why they can eat many body shots but are fairly bad at western boxing. You'll notice that when they fight with boxing or Muay Thai rules. Anyway, the back kick is often used to knock out even the hardest fighters. So it's legit and useful. You'll see it often in tournaments. Yet, you might argue that Ashihara and Enshin karate have learned and become more intelligent because they stress angles and footwork ("Sabaki") to avoid the typical Kyokushin standoff. The problem is that these styles are weaker in conditioning. That's the problem with styles. They're stuck in traditions, which may be detrimental to self-defense or efficiency. If they learned more from each other they could erase many problems.

Often enough that a highly-tested, full-contact style drills it.
