I have seen the Warabi style Mochi sweets before with the Soybean Powder and a Syrup before. However I haven't seen it served as a full on Dessert at a Restaurant before which actually sounds really filling.

In the USA, many restaurants serve large portions like Claim Jumper and other family restaurants. It would be enjoyable and refreshing to find a place that offers a variety of smaller portions, similar to Kyoto style.

I really liked the unagi/sea eel and tofu soup It looked delicious. It's nice that they gave you a substantial amount of unagi. Great looking wasabi. Could someone please explain what looks like a cloth flag (with a split down the middle) that I often see at the entrances of restaurants? What is it's purpose? Thanks in advance

Those cloth awnings are called 'Noren". In old times, they were hung from buildings - in doorways and windows - to provide shade and act as a wind buffer. Before modern signage, Noren would also be hung outside to signify when a restaurant was open for business and removed when they were closed. Today, some restaurants continue to employ Noren for aesthetics.

With Japan being so far ahead in technology and being on the cutting edge of electronics why are they still using 2 sticks to eat instead of forks.
