Thanks for the very useful video. When we purchased our expensive Lazy Boy couch just 2 years ago I told the saleswoman that the release appeared to be a weak point liable to break. She set me at ease by saying "Don't worry, it has a lifetime warranty!" Shame on me for not reading the fine print; if I had I'd likely not purchased from them. When it broke I called the store and was told that only the part was warranted past the first year. The labor to install by them was a minimum of $150! With help from my wife and this video we were able to replace it without too much trouble. But in a few years I may not be physically able to do so. If I had to pay them to replace both releases every couple of years I'd soon have paid more in maintenance costs then we paid for the couch.

This is the best lazyboy recliner video on youtube. It actually shows how the mechanism functions and how to properly disassemble and reassemble it. Good job. Thanx

There are several videos out there explaining how to fix the rip-cord handles for La-Z-Boy recliners, but yours is the best. Thanks! I was able to replace mine in about 10 minutes (and I am far from a handywoman). My recliner is part of a 5-piece sectional. It is 8 years old and Lazy Boy still provided the rip-cord handle piece for free. This is my 2nd replacement. Last time I paid someone to replace it, but I won't need to do that again!

I'm going to try doing this now that I've seen this you-tube video. I did not know La-z-boy would send me those parts under warranty...you would think they could burn that into the wood under there so you would not forget. Tags? I hate tags and usually rip them off if they don't get ripped off or fall off with time and wear. Having the right tools, space, and a helping hand really makes a difference. Videos like this are sooooooo helpful !

Thanks for sharing your La-Z-boy experience. I have been searching for a solution to repair the back of my La--Z--boy reclining sofa. The center is straight, but the corners lean further back, so if the sofa is upright the back looks like stealth fighter "V"! .

Thank you for your video! I just called La-Z-Boy and they told me that the part has been updated. They are sending the directions along with the part. (I only had to pay for shipping: $13.99 + tax) She said the installation has changed a little but felt that I wouldn't have a problem following the directions. If needed, I could call them back and schedule service for $124 an hour.

Great video Chris. You helped me get through the aggravating process. Remove the arm?!? No in this lifetime. One small hint: On my couch, the fabric had to be carefully slit to make a hole big enough for the little clip thing to feed through. Once I got that done the rest was easy-peasy.

Thanks again, Dad. This is the fourth or fifth time I’ve watched this video to make this repair. This time Lazy Boy sent me an improved “kit” to make the replacement. The cable is the same but it includes another plastic piece that is supposed to somehow put less stress on the cable. Unfortunately they included NO INSTRUCTIONS of how this is to be attached. I could find nothing about it on line so it would be helpful if you or someone else could post a video on how to install that new part. Until then I’m still just using the original type assembly.

Chris, we have the exact same couch and love seat and color. And yes the D pulls broke on just the couch so far. . La Z Boy did send me (4) .... anticipating all will break. Inside the arm the cable is really tight and not sure it will just pull out. There's a wood brace getting in the way which looks like it can be removed taking the entire side off . Did you run into this and how did you get the cable out.
@JohnnyBGoode-lg5qo
@JohnnyBGoode-lg5qo 6 жыл бұрын
My reply is a little late but may help someone else. I thought the wooden brace was blocking removal of the old cable harness. Even thought of removing the arm. Actually all that was needed was to cut the cloth where the cable is in the wooded brace groove. Cut it where you can pull the cable outta the grove and another inch of cloth above the brace above the wood brace. This is where you fish the old one out and bring the new thru.

Two years later and it broke again so I am back. Had considerably more difficulty this time on a couple steps. The clip that goes over the cam was much harder to get off then shown on the video. Had to use the pliers and a screwdriver to finesse/pry it off. Feeding the new cable through is also difficult. Had to look at the other footrest to see where it comes out, not sure why they have fabric around the tiny hole it comes out. Wife was feeding it thru and the tip wanted to stay under the fabric but I was able to fish it out. Also, while tipping the couch back and forth the plastic piece that the end of the cable hooks on had fallen off. It just snaps in. Again looking at the other side, not broken, footrest I could see somethings was missing. Found the part and snapped it back in and was able to complete the job. Thanks once again for the video. More annoyed than ever though at the misleading Lazy Boy warranty practices.

Thankfully, I replaced that couch so I don’t need to deal with those rip cords anymore. But I remember having to enlarge the slot in the fabric to feed the new cable through. Luckily it wasn’t visible.

Thank you for this! Would love an update to this video. We had this exact thing happen to our reclining sofa and the repair kit we got from La-z-boy is completely different--the D-ring is not one long piece of plastic and is connected to a two part, spring-loaded metal that needs to be installed (I can send pictures if you are unfamiliar with this, and interested.) And of course they don't offer any repair guidance via a manual or video, although they'll happily send someone to my house to do it for $150. Have you needed one of these repairs recently and gotten this wonky thing from La-z-boy? Were you able to figure it out? Thanks in advance to anyone that might be able to shed some light on this for me!

Our la-z-boy couch has stopped fully reclining on one side. I can extend the footrest fine and it reclines a bit, but when you push back, it doesn't recline any further. I think it's that way due to me bending something when pushing back without extending the footrest to recline and have my feet on the floor. Will have to flip it over to see if I can figure out what isn't working. It seemed to work for my wife who weighs half what I do, but it was still difficult. On her side, it reclines back just fine when the footrest is extended.

Ironically, or not, I got a link to this in email FROM the Lay Z Boy store I bought my sectional from. I would imagine they have watched it and take a hint and update the design. We have sectional and this is on the "armless" section, so hopefully will be a bit easier to replace after separating sections. With mine the cable snapped in the middle, or from the other end, haven't replaced yet. Going to store to pick up part and save the $150 install fee. Wish me luck.

The guy below says the arm is held by 4 bolts but it was more like 7. It is a 2 man operation as the sofa has to be moved around and held up. It was difficult. The reclining mechanism is great but the material they sold me was horrible. Bonded leather is not leather and breaks down and they wouldn't even honor the insurance that they sold me. Never buy insurance on furniture again. If it's quality furniture, you shouldn't have to insure it! Lesson learned! I will never buy LazyBoy ever again! I will keep repairing what I have but never again LazyBoy!!!!! PS: I bought a real leather recliner couch from Macy's that runs circles around LazyBoy comfort, looks, operation, etc. And they came in and assembled professionally. Love it!!!!

Thank you for the useful video. I did get the part for free, but was required to pay $27 in "shipping"; not "shipping and handling" but simply...."Shipping". It came in a tiny UPS bag that likely charged them no more than $6. What that means to me is they ARE charging for the part as well as shipping. She said La Z Boy no longer honors the warranty that was in place when I purchased it. She said I could confirm that on their current website. I informed her they cannot dishonor an express warranty in place at the time of purchase by simply posting on a website a change in an express sales warranty. She firmly told me I was wrong. Hmph. She is wrong. She also said they WOULD NOT COME OUT to repair it; BUT I WAS REQUIRED TO BRING THE COUCH to their warehouse and pay a minimum labor charge. Hmmmm sounds like a class action lawsuit in the making. So.... I am posting this comment to update viewers of the trend at this company. It is illegal to warrant something at the time of sale and dishonor that express warranty later, but it's not worth my time or trouble to fight this. Yet, if anyone files a class action, please let me know.
