When Jock and Trusty call for Lady, they almost sound like their respective barks. Terrier Jock's call is short and sharp, and Bloodhound Trusty's is long and low

That is absolutely adorable. I also appreciate Jock’s barky little snit for Tramp in the next scene, “G’on! OFF with ya! OFF with ya, OFF with ya I say!”

Not only that, but their personalities seem pretty accurate to the breeds. Just like Scottish terriers, Jock is dedicated towards his owner and close friends, very protective of his space, wary of strangers, bad-tempered, and absolutely fearless. And pretty similar to bloodhounds, Trusty is very gentle and affectionate, but when he's on a trail, nothing gets in his way.

I'm guessing since it's the early 20th century, a pregnant lady is at risk for even the littlest of things-from falling on her heels while walking the dog due to swollen feet, pre-natal care doesn't exist & pregnancy related illnesses like eclampsia is a killer...even childbirth was dangerous in those days-Princess Charlotte of Wales is a good (& tragic) example

I know someone who works in insurance and its bizarre how many cases there are of people getting tripped by dogs. Usually its elderly people who get the most hurt because of coordination and weak bones. Don't forget, Lady knocked Aunt Sarah to the floor in the pet shop.

Dogs love routine. They become confused or upset if it suddenly changes. Darling could have taken 10 minutes away from her precious knitting to take Lady for a quick walk around the block or toss the ball to her in the yard for a little while.

Oh my God, I can't believe I have to explain this. Y'all do realize this movie takes in the early 1900. When women got pregnant their doctors told them to sit down do not exercise at all. Especially, because they are very well off. Jim would have started considering a maid or something. So she did not have to move around at all. Even if she did walk the dog it was also socially unacceptable to to walk around pregnant.

Ye I agree with this! It is true that in the early 1900s, Darling would have been strongly advised by a doctor against moving around too much, so it's fair for her to not walk Lady. However, I personally don't think it was fair for Darling to slap Lady on the butt when she took the yarn ball, or for Jim to ignore Lady and refer to her as "that dog". I understand the situation for them was quite stressful with a baby on the way and all the risks that can come with it, but even still, they could have at least given Lady more positive reinforcement instead of suddenly switching their attitude towards her. Just because she's not the same species doesn't mean that Lady isn't also a child in a way, whose needs and routines need to be understood and put into consideration when big life changes are introduced into the household. Lady doesn't understand what's going on and that isn't her fault. Tho they can't communicate with her directly, they should still treat her with understanding, and not (figuratively) punish her for simply being a dog. I don't think that K Lina's comment was ridiculous or an overreaction. The average viewer doesn't know the social norms of the 1900s after all, and they are just sharing their opinion based off of a well meaning concern. This is also just my opinion, and if anyone disagrees, that's fine! Merry Christmas!

When my parents had me, rather than getting less attention, our spaniel got even more love. In fact my first word was her name...not mommy, not daddy, but doggy. 😂

My American sister's about to have her first child, and she's got a dog named Keda. I bet Keda and her little bundle of joy will love each other. I'm not sure when the baby will be born, but she said sometime later on this year. That means I'm gonna have a little nephew or niece!

So, did Trusty and Jock already know that Darling was pregnant? The way Jock said, "at times like these". At first, I thought they had just figured it out from what Lady told them, but that doesn't really make sense when you think about it.

I think Jock and Trusty’s masters probably had children, so they have seen it all. That’s my guess! Lady is after all younger, I think, than both Jock and Trusty, so they know more about “humans” and “what they do.”

@@perfectajo yes it is true they probably experienced being around children before and that Jock and Trusty are older than Lady, since later in the movie Jock mentioned that they aren’t as young as they used to be. My guess is that Trusty is like 8 years old.

In the book, Jock states that Lady's owners have talked about it with his, so that's why he knows.

Well, they were going through stress and were getting ready for the baby to arrive Jim was anxious about his pregnant wife alone at home in that condition while the pregnant Darling was sewing socks for her future baby and resting at the same time Both babies and dogs are a lot of responsibilities you know

But the key difference is that Pacha’s wife was more visibly pregnant while “Darling” is implied to be pregnant without showing a bump in her belly. I’m guessing at this point in the story she’s 2 or 3 months into her pregnancy. Another guess is at the time, the Hays Code prohibited the showing of a woman inexplicably pregnant in animation, that being why we never see Darling with a more pregnant belly.

Squeakers tell jock trusty and lady about his parents Squeakers: lady I know how your feeling because I had parents too you know (Jock and trusty and lady are interested in hearing squeaks Story about his parents) Squeakers: I never told anyone this before but I had a great life when I was a baby mouse my parents gave birth to me and my uncle rat step into the picture and by picture I mean a hole in the wall of a lovely house we lived in he got jealous of the attention I got and vows revenge on my parents for not giving him attention me my mom and dad were the perfect family everything was peaches and cream til one day we were leaving from the park and saw a dark alley try to avoid it and uncle rat showed up and harass us and use his tail to throw me on a dirty mattress then was about to attack my parents they were gonna get me but then he chase them off in the streets while cars were moving and then it happen to both of them getting ran over so now I’m stuck with this awful awful rodent Jock: aye lad I’m sorry to hear that Trusty: I wish we take care of the uncle of yours personally but rats are fast there impossible to kill like cockroaches Squeakers: that’s really sweet of you guy but I just want to have a better life Lady: hey look at me if he comes sneaking into my yard again I’ll chew him up for you (Squeakers smiles at lady and lady smiles back at squeakers)

@@TheMellyBellies Is it still new sights and smells even their owners use the same route every time they walk them? Do they never get bored of let's say, walking around the neighborhood every day? And it doesn't bother them at all to be kept on a leash that frequently gets tugged by their owners?

@@vetarlittorf1807 Yes my dog requires a different route every walk. We have at least 5 she rotates from in the neighborhood. And on weekends she leads me to the car to take her to the park. And Yes the same route changes daily from other dogs marking that area, or rain, wind, new people, and dogs and other animals passing by etc. bringing up fresh new smells. Dogs go crazy for it and act like the route is brand new, which is why after a day or two she will take the same route, but if I try to do the same in one day she is bored will refuse to go the same route. She hates being tugged, but doesn't mind doing the tugging.
