My favorite Disney movie growing up and had no idea what was going on here as a kid. Unfortunately, unwed pregnant mothers weren't always treated this way in Victorian times.

The talent, art and desire is *just* not there anymore when in comparison to the Walt Disney golden era. Maybe there still is, but it is especially hard nowadays when there is so much other ways to get entertainment as opposed to going to the cinema (eg: Netflix, internet, steaming etc.) compared to when "Lady and the Tramp" came out (1955), when audiences only really had theater, books, sport, radio or *very* early TV to compete for eyeballs, ears and attention. Hence why nowadays you only see children's movies containing the likes of "Boss Baby" and "Cats and Dogs" (relying only on poop/fart jokes in hope of keeping a socially distracted kids' attention whilst their tag-along parents with their wallets are bored relentless) instead of making classics like this that *every* member of the accomplishing family can enjoy and love.

Idk have you guys watched animated films recently? They’re doing quite well with responsible story telling. Obviously the nostalgia of the old Disney movies is *chefs kiss*, but.. I think they are putting mature stuff in kids films, just like there were bad and good films back then, there are bad and good films in the present day, just cos there are bad ones doesn’t mean the good ones with the good responsible story telling don’t exist

@@SuperTed19021 yes but that’s such a small sample, there were animated films with potty humour back then too. It’s such a generalization to say that there are so many writers and animators working hard to present amazing stories that people just sweep under the rug because they’re too busy complaining about the bad ones and how things aren’t the same anymore

They were proposing to her because it was hinted at that she got pregnant with Tramp, as a short while later at Christmas, she and Tramp have had puppies. Back during the time period the movie takes place, pregnancy out of wedlock was largely frowned upon and scorned in general. Jock and Trusty "proposing" to Lady was an attempt to help save her dignity.

@@Shojogurlp Actually, I just did some research. A dog's gestational age is 58-68 days or three-ish months. And Jim Dear and Darling's baby was born in April. Even if the the puppies are a few weeks old, and lady couldn't have gotten pregnant before September or late summer early fall. And it looks like Lady met Tramp early summer late spring, so around May or June. I do think that they were proposing to her because they had seen how Aunt Sara was treating her and they didn't know when Jim Dear and Darling were returning.

@@sophieje6039 Well, I'm not sure, but it was never adressed when Jim Dear and Darling travelled away. And from the cast Trusty is still wearing at Christmas after the accident, it can't be long after this whole situation either. So it is not only possible, but also quite likely that Lady did get pregnant during this period.

Plus you had so much else going on inside her own home. Her owners were away, an dog-hating aunt (who even tried to force a muzzle on her without her owners' knowledge/consent) and her two nasty Siamese cats move in and completely take over her home and make her an outcast. It is just not the "faithful old dog tray routine" that Tramp himself put it that kept her grounded, but an dog's inbred sense of loyalty to their owners/loved ones.

What really confuses me is, if Tramp really broke Lady's heart and Lady cried in her doghouse, why didn't she look like she was actually crying after she checks to see if the Tramp was gone?

@@yesikanarvaez5027 I *think* he always did (like the alleyway fight and the muzzle scene before this). I liked that they made an hero *actually* hugely flawed, makes the character much more realistic. Why this is one of my favorite movies.

I know Trixie was one of the dogs who Tramp broke her heart, from breaking hearts every day, Tramp’s a playboy or playdog that is. Get it? Cause a playboy is a guy that has lots of girlfriends and plays with their hearts, that used to be Tramp over there.

@@cockerspanielfan56 That's why I love better the Tramp in the remake when he had no love interest in anyone until he met Lady, then when he told her his story of how he used to have a family but was abandoned by them all because they loved the baby more than him, it was so sad and Lady felt REALLY bad for him, and finally, when the Tramp found Lady back home from the pound and apologized for failing to rescue her and this time, Lady accepted his apology but when the Tramp tried to convince Lady to run away with him, Lady refused calmly and decided to stay with Jim, Darling, and their baby Lulu when things started to return back to normal for all four of them

@@reynarodriguez9742 yes yes I’ve seen the reboot, it was revealed Tramp used to have a family till they gave him up when the couple had a baby. It wasn’t revealed in the old one but I’m pretty sure we all had a guess that Tramp got abandoned by his own family after having a baby, from those words: when the baby moves in, the dog moves out. Between the classic I’ve seen in my childhood and the reboot, I like the reboot more.

Yeah the guy was very nice and Lady had every right to yell at Tramp cause of what happened. Tramp didn’t watch her back and she ended up taken by the dogcatcher. The poor girl was scared half to death of that place so was Scamp in the sequel.

As the bulldog said Tramp was a "careless chump". But he *did* have a golden heart to make amends, which a lot of humans beings in the real world wouldn't not. As for Bill, being this is a dog's perspective of the world, he was *not* actually a monster or anyone else working at the pound, he was just a guy doing his job. He probably *hated* to put down or witness a dog being put down but that was his bread and butter.

"Nightmare" would be the best way to describe both Lady's lives in the dog world and with her owners, no wonder she broke down.

I may be one month late but here. Lady was most likely pregnant and her friends were offering to marry her to help her out. Given the time that while Trusty’s leg was still broken at the end of the movie and Lady had her puppies AND they were able to walk as well as open their eyes.

I think it was she more upset with him making her feel like she was the one and then found out about his playdog life, and that in turn just made her feel that she would just be another girl for him to swoon and move on from, no one likes to feel that they are the one and be forgotten later, which didn't happen with her in the end.

Trixie was one of Tramp's former girlfriends who wanted to be with him. At the time, he was a playboy who had no intentions of settling down and was messing around with Peg, along with a few others. This was mainly due to how Tramp was treated from his former family when they kicked him out to make room for the baby. It wasn't until Lady told him to leave, that Tramp realized she was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
