If I recall the novels correctly, he DID send messages. But his Dad was a colossal jerk and just held the letters up on both ends. Man knew about Maomao and did not care at all. Now consider that Lakan is successful af now and you can see how stupid his Dad was lol.

Not that his dad is in any position to realize that now. With how furious Lakan must’ve been when he figured out why he didn’t get any of those letters, it’s easy to imagine what he did about it. I wonder if Lakan’s father knew why he died, or even that Lakan was the one that did it.

The reason why he couldn't contact her 1. The message was getting block by his father 2. He was forced to go abroad, like actually physically force ship out the country 3. There was a war during the time of 3 years he was gone, thats where he got his postion of power as a strategies ( highest rank in the military)

Lakan is such a complex character it was like wow…I felt this backstory he really loved her!! The way was running in the rain….

Good job on picking up on MaoMao's adoptive father being Lakan's uncle. I stopped questioning if MaoMao knew about her father's identity after she gave Jinshi the death stare & said "he found out." I still think Jinshi probably knows Ah-Duo is his mother based on him crying the night before she left the rear palace.
