I've now stopped Lamictal completely after tapering as slow as I can tolerate. I was misdiagnosed with Bipolar 2 (I have Autism and ADHD) which explains how awful this drug made me feel. It's hard to say how much it is the withdrawal and how much it is outside influences because I have post-COVID and a stressful environment. If there's anyone out there who has doubts about their Bipolar diagnosis, please look deep into yourself and do your own research, don't blindly accept it because being overly medicated is very hazardous to your health.

I was misdiagnosed too. But thst crazy shrink had me on a whole lot worse- and higher doses of antipsychotics. I got weaned off them by the next shrink. He diagnosed BPD traits, depression and ADHD. Lamictal 100 MG or less is generally well tolerated. I am. OK with it to prevent night seizures. There's way worse stuff out there for sure!

The entire reason I wanted off this medication was due to its side effects. It started off as an annoying "fog brain" and then it proceeded to get worse over time. The medication felt as if it was wearing off, so I increased my dose to 200 mg a day. This is when I noticed my fog brain grew much worse. My coordination was worse, my situational awareness was worse. It got to the point where I was developing what I can only describe as acute dyslexia. Eventually I would have sentences where two words would come out backwards and I'd get tongue tied. The doctor that put me on this stuff hasn't helped me with tapering at all. I went on my own and tapered down to 50 mg, and then finally stopped. A week later it was so bad I asked to be put back on it and I wanted to taper slowly. Here's why I'm sharing this. I spent 30 days on 50 mg a day and I asked for a refill and wanted to know how much less should I be taking. The response was, "You shouldn't still be having these issues." They gave me a refill and asked for a follow up. I'm changing doctors. In the meantime, I need to stop drinking caffeine and make some dietary changes. After that, I'll begin tapering a small bit at a time. By the time I meet my new doctor I'll let them know everything that has been going on. I feel like if you're a doctor prescribing something, you better know what the effects are.

I just foud out the two times I almost died of mentengitis were caused by Lamictal. It says so on the main FDA page, yet the doctor who treated me through it never once looked up drug interactions and to this day refuses to take responsibility or help me wean off. I’ve also had a loss of use of my right hand and arm for nine months, skin rashes, hair loss, and so much more from it.

I went off Lamictol 3 weeks ago, and just recently became extremely depressed. I was so depressed I called my Dr and she convinced me to go back on Lamictol, for a 25mg dose, which will be upped to 50mg in a week. I cannot handle being this depressed. I've been depressed my entire life.... Long before starting Lamictol. (Update - 5 days later) - It is working. I'm not nearly as depressed. I am having some annoyance/stress issues here and there, but it beats being super depressed with no energy.

Thank you so much for this! I was put on Lamotrigine six months ago for occasional seizures. If I had any idea how much trouble it would cause or how hard it would be to quit, I would never have agreed to start it. I'm encouraged to hear that avoiding things like MSG and Aspartame is helpful because neither of those are in my diet. Hoping and praying the rest of my tapering goes smoothly and I can get this poison out of my system without having any permanent damage.

I had seizures and at 20 yrs old went to neurologist who prescribed lamictal- haven’t had a seizure since- for 12 years. Though lamictal used as anti seizure med may have not done specifically what they claimed it did in the brain, it should be specified that it does in fact for some people work for seizure prevention. (Not all).

I’m bipolar and stumbled upon this video because I’m currently withdrawing from Lamictal and it’s absolutely miserable. I’ve been on it for 7 years and went from 250mg to zero in about a month. I officially stopped taking it last week. At first I was ok and I even felt my new mood stabilizer working better but I’m on day 9 of not taking it now and it’s scary. I told my husband I’m suicidal and I just want someone to put me in a coma so I can like, sleep this off or something. I’m a stay at home mom of two young children and I feel so crazy unstable right now. It scares me! I need to be calm and happy for my children and family. I called my doctor’s office and I’m waiting to hear back. Maybe they can help ease these symptoms. I know it won’t last forever but it feels like living hell right now.

@MurphyLyle3 жыл бұрын
You would probably be going from the frying pan to the fire with that one. I would try spreading out the gabapentin dosing to be at least three times a day and maybe a little bit more of it towards the night. And then strategically reduce one of the three doses, and then balance out, and then pick another one of the three doses, and balance out, and so on. Tryptophan And other natural relaxants like passion flower might be your best bet here. Lamictal is generally much more significant drug then gabapentin. You could even try some natural gather products even though they don’t have nearly the same affect as gabapentin
